The SbW system consisting of SFA and RWA does not have a mechanical connection, so when the SFA fails, the driver is in a situation where the steering wheel does not provide feedback. Therefore, if only fallback torque remains in SbW, the controllability that driver perceives depends on the amount of the fallback torque. In this study, the correlation between controllability perceived by the driver and amount of fallback torque is studied and the safest fallback torque is derived.

In the ISO 26262 Functional Safety Study, only the subjective rating through the Jury Test was used to assess the controllability. This study presents an objective evaluation method by applying physiological signal analysis methods. The subjects will conduct a subjective rating of the controllability according to the instructed rating scale, for conditions in which there is no torque feedback by the SFA due to a failure during cornering. The subjective rating used in this study, obtained reliability through the analysis of physiological signals during the failure. For heart rate (HR), no significant tendency was found, but skin conductivity (GSR) was analyzed using grouping methods to confirm the tendency of controllability, which was also statistically significant. Therefore in rating comfort of Lv.5 autonomous driving, GSR can be used as objective parameters.
