A 40-year-old female previously diagnosed with primary biliary cirrhosis was referred to the hospital complaining of muscle weakness, arthralgia, Raynaud`s phenomenon, and thick skin. After work-up, she was diagnosed with both mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) and papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), based on the Alarcon-Segovia criteria and pathological examination, respectively. High-dose glucocorticoid and azathioprine were introduced to treat active myositis of MCTD, and total thyroidectomy was performed to treat PTC. This report highlights the possible association between MCTD and thyroid cancer, and suggests that MCTD is associated with PTC, similar to other autoimmune diseases including Sjogren`s syndrome, systemic sclerosis, and systemic lupus erythematosus. Phenylformamidine derivatives are well known as insecticides for their specific activity against the insects. It has now been established that they show insecticidal activity as agonists on the octopamine receptor which is located in the synapse membrane. The reaction of triethylorthoformate and fluoroanilines gave formimidates (1) in good yields and N',N'-Disubstituted N-fluorophenylformamidine derivatives were synthesized more easily by using microwave. This microwave reaction condition gave products in high yields and faster reaction time than conventional methods. All the compounds were screened for their biological activity agaist harmful insects of plant hoppers, moths, aphids and mites. Synthetic compounds of 2-I-a, 2-I-c, 2-I-d, 2-Ⅱ-d showed good activity against mites and plant hoppers.

Phenylformamidine derivatives are well known as insecticides for their specific activity against the insects. It has now been established that they show insecticidal activity as agonists on the octopamine receptor. In order to get a highly active compound we have intensively exploited fluorine substituted-aromatic formamidines possessing N-dialkylaminosulfeny group. Up to now, there are several candidates we found: N-(dialkylamino)sulfenyl-N-methyl-N'-(4-fluoro-2-methylphenyl)formamidines. The miticidal activity of Compound 29 show five-fold higher than Amitraz.

In this study we tried to test the effect of fluorine substituted aromatic formamidines and 1,3,5-triazapenta-1,4-dienes. Among the compounds, 2h, 2k, 21, 3g, 3h, 3k showed good activity against mite and aphid and 4f and 4g showed high activity against mite.

New series of sulfonylureas containing substituted thiophene with 2-chloromethyl-l,3-dioxolane group were prepared, and their herbicidal effects were tested(in vivo) in the upland conditions and in the paddy submerged conditions. The sulfonylureas in which 4,6-dimethoxy- or 4-methyl-6-methoxy group in pyrimidine or triazine ring showed good herbicidal effects at a rate of 0.1 ㎏/㏊. However, they showed weaker herbicidal effects than that of sulfonylureas containing substituted thiophene with 2-fluoromethyl-l,3-dioxolane group in general.

Methiozolin (5-(2,6-difluoro-benzyloxymethyl)-5-methyl-3-(3-methyl- thiophen-2-yl)- 4,5-dihydro-isoxazole) is a new turf herbicide in isoxazoline chemistry. The herbicide controls grass weeds and has a high safety to various cool and warm season turfgrasses. This paper describes basic chemical, biological, and regulatory information of methiozolin.

New synthetic method of 2-mercaptobenzoxazoles and 2-mercaptobenzimidazoles was established using elemental sulfur, dichloromethane, inorganic base and catalysts in alcohol solvents. This reaction condition gave products in high yields.

This study was conducted to evaluate herbicidal properties of picolinafen in terms of crop safety, weed control spectrum, application window, residual efficacy and resistant weed control. Herbicidal phytotoxicity of picolinafen to wheat and barley was greatest when applied at 0 days after sowing (DAS), but decreased significantly as plant growth advanced. Picolinafen showed greater activity against broadleaved weeds than grass weeds. Picolinafen showed highest activity when it was applied at early post?emergence timing (5 to 15 DAS), and showed significantly decreased activity at 20 DAS application. The LT?? values (the period from application required for residual control by 50%) was 9.3 and 6.5 days against Digitaria ciliaris and Brasica naus at 60 g a.i. ha?¹, respectively. Picolinafen showed similar activities against both triazine?resistant and sensitive Amaranthus retroflexus. Collectively, picolinafen appeared to have a good fitness to control resistant broad?leaved weeds control by early post?emergence application.

A thyrotropin (TSH)-secreting pituitary adenoma is a rare cause of hyperthyroidism, with an incidence of one case per million. Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease of the axial skeleton. Extra-articular manifestations, such as anterior uveitis, may also be prominent features in AS but little is known about the association between AS and thyroid diseases including TSH-secreting pituitary adenomas. We present a case study of a 26-year-old male AS patient who was diagnosed with a TSH-secreting pituitary adenoma using a thyrotropin releasing hormone stimulation test, measurement of the TSH α-subunit, and magnetic resonance imaging, and subsequently treated with a transsphenoidal tumor resection.
