Currently, power conversion system which converts AC to DC Power is applied in domestic urban railway. The diode rectifier is used in most of them. However the diode rectifier can not control the output voltage and can not regenerate power as well. On the other hand, PWM (pulse width modulation) converter using IGBT (isolated gate bipolar transistor) can control output voltage, allowing it to reduce the output voltage drop. Moreover the Bi-directional conduction regenerates power which does not require additional device for power regeneration control. This paper compared the simulation results for the DC power supply system on both the diode rectifier and the PWM converter. Under the same load condition, simulation circuit for each power supply system was constructed with the PSIM (performance simulation and modeling tool) software. The load condition was set according to the resistance value of the currently operating impedance of light rail line, and the line impedance was set according to the distance of each substations. The train was set using a passive resistor. PI (proportional integral) controller was applied to regulate the output voltage. PSIM simulation was conducted to verify that the PWM Converter was more efficient than the diode rectifier in DC Traction power supply system.

This paper presents the simulation of traction power supply system for the evaluation of voltage drop in Kyungbu high speed line. This simulation is performed in circumstance of extended feeding through vicinity substation. Extended feeding should be considered from design of system. Therefore voltage drop at extended feeding must be accepted against regulation. In this paper voltage drop is evaluated under condition of extended feeding targeting section from Shinchungju and Pyungtaek S/S.
다단자망 알고리즘을 이용한 급전시스템의 무효전력 보상 모델링 및 시뮬레이션

The power supply system in Korean electrified railway has adopted AT feeding. If a fault occurs in some substation for any reason, the vicinity substation must feed electric power on the outage substation through catenary. So, the feeding distance grows twice of the normal state at extended feeding condition. If substation’s feeding distance is longer than normal condition, the catenary impedance and train to supply electric power from the substation. Therefore, the severe voltage drop can occur and power supply shall be not allowed. This paper presents the model of compensator against voltage drop using multi-port network algorithm. Whole traction power supply system can be analyzed with this model. Computer simulation including this model is performed based on real train schedule and increased schedule in case studies.

Load capacity varies according to a day of the week in traction power supply system, because time schedule in railway is changed as demand for passengers and freights. Therefore, Voltage drop also varies as load capacity. In Korea railway, Voltage collected from catenary in train is decreased, as load supplied traction power supply system is increased. Therefore, investigation about voltage drop should be performed, before development of countermeasure against voltage drop. The investigation can be performed by simulation or field test. Naturally, field test is more precise than simulation. In addition, field test should be carried out at peak load. This paper presents test and analysis about voltage drop in railway. The test is performed in both a day of the week and weekend. The analysis is figured out comparison load capacity between two days and voltage drop across terminal.

DC transit system has been adopted in the metropolitan area, Korea since 1974. EMU in this system always reiterates that acceleration and retardation. When EMU decelerates using electric breaking, regenerative power occurs. Regenerative power can be consumed in vicinity EMU on the same line or in resistor. If DC transit system has inverter for reusing regenerative power, Energy efficiency in DC transit system will be increased. This paper present the developed inverter for regenerative power and its field test. Test result of developed inverter is presented.

Electric railway consumes electric power to move train. the consumed power in railway has some features. The one of those is fluctuated power consumption due to repetitive acceleration and deceleration of train. So, this paper presents time variant load model for load bus including electric railway in power grid.
