Micro-electromechanical Systems (MEMS) comprise a rapidly expanding research field with potential applications varying from sensors to more recent optical applications. Depending on the application, these devices often require an on-board power source for remote operation, especially in medical cases requiring operation for an extended period of time. Suggested power sources include fuel cells and solar energy, but nuclear power sources may provide significant advantages for certain applications. Hence, the objective of this study is to suggest a conceptual design of a nuclear battery using Ni63 radioisotope and semiconductors to increase power of betavoltaic battery in the range of from uW to mW, which could expand the application of the nuclear battery for supplying a power to realistic MEMS and sensor devices.
超音波의 Tip Diffraction 方法을 이용한 缺陷連續監視를 위한 크기 評價

Most of significant defects in the pressure boundaries of nuclear power plant were dispositioned to be monitored periodically every inservice inspection. Due to the difficulty of the defect sizing during operation, it is necessary to develope the continuous flaw monitoring techniques. The Tip Diffraction method, specifically speaking, spot seems to be suitable for flaw monotoring. The optimum conditions of selecting the transducer were 3.5MHz and 45-57 degree according to compatibility with the defect height. The effective calculation of the defect height was to assume the fact that the incident beam is parallel.This method would be supplemented to ASME method about the defect characterization for the surface flaw.

Acoustic Emission(AE) signals obtained during fracture toughness test and fatigue test for nuclear pressure vessel material(SA 508 cl.3) and artificial AE signals from pencil break and ultrasonic pulser were classified using pattern recognition methods. Three different classifiers; namely Minimum Distance Classifier, Linear Discriminant Classifier and Maximum Likelihood Classifier were used for pattern recognition. In this study, the performance of each classifier was compared. The discrimination of AE signals from cracking and crack surface rubbing was possible and the analysis for crack propagation was applicable by pattern recognition methods.
핀-핑거형 터빈 동익 루트의 초음파탐상에서의 기하신호 해석

핀-핑거형 터빈 동익 루트의 사각 초음파탐상에서의 기하신호가 해석된다. 동익루트의 기하가 설명되고, 기하신호가 형성되기 위한 반사조건들이 제시된다. 그리고, 이 기하신호의 빔경로에 관한 일반식들이 유도되고 검증된다. 이 기하신호는 리가먼트 모서리 신호이며, 그 위치와 진폭은 핀홀과 리가먼트의 크기 및 탐촉자의 빔지향 특성으로부터 결정될 수 있다는 것이 보여진다. Interpreted is the geometric signal in the angle beam ultrasonic testing for the pin-finger type of turbine blade roots. The geometry of the blade roots is described and the reflection conditions for appearance of the geometric signal are proposed. The general equation for its beam path is derived and verified. As the results, it is found that the geometric signal is the back reflection from the ligament edge, and its position and amplitude can be determined from the dimension of blade root and the beam directivity of transducer.
