In this study, a documentary survey, face mapping, and stability analysis were performed on the collapsed coaly shale slope. The purpose of this paper is to identify the cause of slope failure and determine slope stability for similar areas. This slope is considered to be unstable because of the discontinuity and geological reason. Orientation of slope is similar to the orientation of the foliation. Therefore, various analysis techniques such as stereographic analysis, limit equilibrium which are commonly used in rock slope stability analysis, are adopted in this study. Slope stability is examined by considering the orientation of discontinutics and their trace distributions on the cut surface. As a result of this investigation and the analysis of data, the cause of slope failure have been shown to have a strong correlation with the natural geographical and geological features. These results will help to develop guidelines for formulating countermeasure methods.

The principal objective of this paper is to investigate the characteristic settlement and a change of pore water pressure in improved soft ground. In this study, centrifugal model tests were performed by changing lower replacement ratio (0, 10, 20, 30%). After centrifugal model tests, its data were compared with analytical results using finite element analysis. The results of centrifuge model tests showed that soft ground is decreased in settlement with increasing replacement ratio. And pore water pressure is decreased in pore water pressure value and decreasing velocity. From the test results and the FEM analyzed results, settlement is similar to phases with irrelative replacement ratio. And FEM analysis for settlement and heaving is overestimated to centrifuge model tests about 9∼20%. Also, pore water pressure is overestimated about 8∼19%.

The failure of rock slopes were influenced by weathering, which causes change in the shear strength. The weathering is also directly related to slaking and swelling characteristics. In the paper, the core of diameter 10㎝ was obtained by digging on rock slope of Kong-ju in Korea and the EDX (Energy Dispersive X-ray spectrometer) analysis was carried out to verified element of chief rock-forming minerals. Uniaxial compression tests, slaking tests, and point load test are performed to study engineering characteristics of conglomerate and red shale. As a results of slaking test, slaking index of conglomerate indicate range of 85.11-99.58 and shale indicate 58.37-99.23.Therefore, it is recognized that the resistance of shale to weathering decreases in shallow depth and it greatly influences the strength of rock. The result of uniaxial compression test and point load test show that the strength of sedimentary such as conglomerate and red shale has an influence on both weathering and saturation.

In this karst terrains, sinkhole-cave systems are causes of the most serious geological hazard, because they threaten water storage, ground collapse and lead to ground-water contamination. And karst features may cause many complicate problems in course of construction stage. Limestone rock slope collapse due to the geological characteristics of the limestone during slope construction has been reported to occur frequently. The collapse of the slope is composed of limestone cavities in the slope due to chemical weathering, weathered residual soil due to rapid weathering, the collapse caused by the filling of the unfavorable direction and blocked joints and joints in clay can be categorized the causes and types. In this study, in order to analyze the safety of the cut slope and to check the underground cavity, the integrated geo-physical surveys have been applied, such as resistivity survey methods.

Recently, many new concrete-block wall systems were developed. However, there are many difficulties in quantitative analysis because that behaviors of wall is affected by various parameters. Therefore, in this paper, the stability analyses were performed at a bin wall. The stability of bin wall should be studied with height and incline of wall. By the comparative studies various theory can be considered various parameters such as height, incline of the wall. From the calculation results, a bin wall was stabilized to 3~5 stage height in a steep slope case and was stabilized to 8~10 stage height in a gentle slope case.

This paper presents the performance of ground treatment to support road embankment on soft ground. The long-term settlement characteristics of refuse landfill were analyzed by Sower(1973);Yen and Scaeloe(1975). As a result of field test, the predicted settlement exceed the allowable settlement and ultimate bearing capacity is not satisfied. Therefore, the ground was treated by stone columns. The effectiveness of dynamic replacement was verified by Standard Ptletration Test(SPT), Pressure meter Test(PMT) performed before, during and after construction of the stone columns. Eros the pressure meter test, estimation of critical embedded ratio to classify the failure mechanisms, critical and yielding pressure on treated and untreated ground is suggested. Also defomiatioe sedulous of stone columns and untreated ground is suggested. The results indicated that the settlement of the treated foundation should be reduced to about 70 percent and the bearing capacity should be increased to about 60 percent comparing with the treatment. Due to the non-homogeneity o refuse landfill, stress concentration actors were distributed in wild range.
