This study was conducted to investigate the effects of soil nitrogen content such as content of total nitrogen, NH_4^+, and NO_3^- in paddy field on the productivity of rice. Arround 7 locations with automated weather station (AWS) near lake Juam in Sunchon city, rice plant cv. Palgongbyeo were grown at 3 paddy fields for every location in 1995. Dry weight of leaves and culms, leaf area, number of tillers per hill, leaf nitrogen content, culm nitrogen content, and content of total nitrogen, NH_3^+ and NO_3^- in soil were measured nine times at intervals of 7 days from June 7. Also, yield and yield components were measured at the harvest date. Content of total nitrogen in soil appeared to be largely determined by content of organic matter in soil. There were no evidences that content of total nitrogen in soil affected plant growth directly in this experiment. Content of NO_3^- in soil increased through the process of nitrification in accordance with application of NH_4^+ fertilizer. As content of NO_3^- in soil increased, nitrogen uptake rate also increased. Net assimilation rate, and relative growth rate of shoot and leaf area increased as concentration of leaf nitrogen increased. Consequently, increase in content of shoot nitrogen per unit land area resulted in increase of leaf area index linearly, and increase in leaf area index resulted in increase in number of panicles per hill and yield asymptotically.

紫蘇品種 育成의 보다 效率的 選拔에 關한 基礎資料를 얻기 위하여 日本 導入種 및 國內 蒐集種 16品種을 供試하여 主要型質을 調査한 後 各 形質에 대한 遺傳力과 그들 相互間의 表現型相關 및 遺傳相關, 그리고 經路係數 分析을 通하여 收量構成 形質들의 收量에 대한 寄與度를 推定하였던 바 結果를 要約하면 다음과 같다. 1. 莖長과 穗長는 遺傳力도 높고 收量과 表現型 및 遺傳相關도 높아 이들을 通한 收量增大 效果가 보다 效率的이었다. 2. 收量과 收量構成形質의 經路係數 分析結果 穗長과 葉長 및 分枝數가 가장 크게 收量에 寄與하였다 In order to investigate the gene action of the quantitative characters in Perilla Frutescens which would be needed to improve selection efficiency for breeding high yielding genotype, sixteen varieties of Perilla Frutescens collected from Korea and Japan were grown and variations of several important characters were observed. Heritabilities of observed characters, phenotypic and genotypic correlations among the characters, and direct effects of yield components on grain yield through path coefficient analysis were estimated. Stem length, panicle length and leaf width showed not only high heritability but also highly significantly positive phenotypic and genotypic correlation with yield, and hence it was desirable to select plants with longer stem and greater number of branches in main stem to raise yield of perilla Frutescens. In addtion, these characters were proved to be the most influencial variables on the variability of yield by path coefficient analysis. Since these characters showed the greater heritabilities, selection of plants with greater number of branches in main stem would be more ficient for breeding high yielding genotype.
