FACTORS CONTROLLING THE STRONGEST SIZES IN THE INVERSE HALL-PETCH RELATIONSHIP
YONG PAN,ZHAO FENG ZHOU,SHAO-YUN FU,YANGUANG NIE,CHANG Q SUN 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2008 NANO Vol.3 No.3
Incorporating the bond-order-length-strength correlation mechanism [Sun CQ, Prog Solid State Chem 35, 1 (2007)] and Born’s criterion for melting [J. Chem. Phys. 7, 591 (1939)] into the conventional Hall-Petch relationship has turned out an analytical expression for the size and temperature dependence of the mechanical strength of nanograins, known as the inverse Hall-Petch relationship (IHPR). Reproduction of the measured IHPR of Ni, NiP and TiO2 nanocrystals revealed that: (i) the competition between the size-induced energy-density gain and atomic cohesive energy loss in the surface skins of nanograins originate the IHPR; (ii) the competition between the activation and inhibition of atomic dislocations motion activate the entire IHPR behavior; (iii) the bond nature involved and the T/Tm ratio between the temperature of operating and the temperature of melting dictate the measured strongest sizes of a given specimen; (iv) a quasimolten phase presenting before melting determines the size-induced softening and the superplasticity of nanostructures.

COVID-19 is an emerging disease that poses a severe threat to global public health. As such, there is an urgent demand for vaccines against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Here, we describe a virus-like nanoparticle candidate vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 produced by an E. coli expression system. The fusion protein of a truncated ORF2-encoded protein of aa 439~608 (p170) from hepatitis E virus CCJD-517 and the receptor-binding domain of the spike protein from SARSCoV-2 were expressed, purified and characterized. The antigenicity and immunogenicity of p170-RBD were evaluated in vitro and in Kunming mice. Our investigation revealed that p170-RBD selfassembled into approximately 24 nm virus-like particles, which could bind to serum from vaccinated people (p < 0.001) and receptors on cells. Immunization with p170-RBD induced the titer of IgG antibody vaccine increased from 14 days post-immunization and was significantly enhanced after a booster immunization at 28 dpi, ultimately reaching a peak level on 42 dpi with a titer of 4.97 log10. Pseudovirus neutralization tests showed that the candidate vaccine induced a strong neutralizing antibody response in mice. In this research, we demonstrated that p170-RBD possesses strong antigenicity and immunogenicity and could be a potential candidate for use in future SARS-CoV-2 vaccine development.

As a green plasticizer, the industrial production of dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP) is still facing the problemof high energy consumption. To optimize the production process and reactor, it is essential to understand the kineticbehavior of reaction system. In this work, the two-step consecutive esterification of solid terephthalic acid (PTA) and 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) catalyzed by tetrabutyl titanate was studied. First, the equilibrium constants and enthalpies of thetwo-step reaction were experimentally determined and validated by the group contribution methods. Then, a pseudohomogeneouskinetic model was developed, and the reaction order of PTA was corrected to reflect its solid phase characteristic. Non-isothermal kinetic experiments were carried out under different initial feed molar ratios and catalystconcentrations, and the kinetic parameters in the model were estimated by mathematical regression. The model predicteddata agreed well with the experimental data. Finally, the analyses of reaction rate showed that the first-step reactionwas the rate-controlling step of the whole esterification process.
IL-33 promotes IL-10 production in macrophages: a role for IL-33 in macrophage foam cell formation
Hai-Feng Zhang,Mao-Xiong Wu,Yong-Qing Lin,Shuang-Lun Xie,Tu-Cheng Huang,Pin-Ming Liu,Ru-Qiong Nie,Qin-Qi Meng,Nian-Sang Luo,Yang-Xin Chen,Jing-Feng Wang 생화학분자생물학회 2017 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.49 No.-
We evaluated the role of IL-10- in IL-33-mediated cholesterol reduction in macrophage-derived foam cells (MFCs) and the mechanism by which IL-33 upregulates IL-10. Serum IL-33 and IL-10 levels in coronary artery disease patients were measured. The effects of IL-33 on intra-MFC cholesterol level, IL-10, ABCA1 and CD36 expression, ERK 1/2, Sp1, STAT3 and STAT4 activation, and IL-10 promoter activity were determined. Core sequences were identified using bioinformatic analysis and sitespecific mutagenesis. The serum IL-33 levels positively correlated with those of IL-10. IL-33 decreased cellular cholesterol level and upregulated IL-10 and ABCA1 but had no effect on CD36 expression. siRNA-IL-10 partially abolished cellular cholesterol reduction and ABCA1 elevation by IL-33 but did not reverse the decreased CD36 levels. IL-33 increased IL-10 mRNA production but had little effect on its stability. IL-33 induced ERK 1/2 phosphorylation and increased the luciferase expression driven by the IL-10 promoter, with the highest extent within the − 2000 to − 1752 bp segment of the 5′-flank of the transcription start site; these effects were counteracted by U0126. IL-33 activated Sp1, STAT3 and STAT4, but only the STAT3 binding site was predicted in the above segment. Site-directed mutagenesis of the predicted STAT3-binding sites (CTGCTTCCTGGCAGCAGAA→CTGCCTGGCAGCAGAA) reduced luciferase activity, and a STAT3 inhibitor blocked the regulatory effects of IL-33 on IL-10 expression. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (CHIP) confirmed the STAT3-binding sequences within the − 1997 to − 1700 and − 1091 to − 811 bp locus regions. IL-33 increased IL-10 expression in MFCs via activating ERK 1/2 and STAT3, which subsequently promoted IL-10 transcription and thus contributed to the beneficial effects of IL-33 on MFCs.

In this work we study the effects of different factors of dislocation loop on its obstacle strength when interacting with an edge dislocation. At first, the interaction model for dislocation and dislocation loop is established and the full and partial absorption mechanism is obtained. Then, the effect of temperature, size and burgers vector of dislocation loop are investigated. The relation between the obstacle strength and irradiation dose has been established, which bridges the irradiation source and microscale properties. Except that, the obstacle strength of C, Cr, Ni, Mn, Mo and P decorated dislocation loop is studied. Results show that the obstacle strength for dislocation loop decorated by alloy element decreases in the sequence of Cr, Ni, Mn, C, P and Mo, which could be used to help parameterize and validate crystal plasticity finite element model and therein integrated constitutive laws to enable accounting for irradiation-induced chemical segregation effects.
