      • Multi-modal Medical Image Fusion Based on Non-subsampled Shearlet Transform

Xing Xiaoxue,Cao Fucheng,Shang Weiwei,Liu Fu 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.8 No.2

In order to provide more comprehensive and effective information for cancer diagnosis and tumor treatment planning, it is necessary to fuse multi-modal medical images, such as CT/MRI image, CT/PET image, MRI/SPECT image and so on. In this paper, a multi-modal medical image fusion method based on Non-subsampled Shearlet Transform is proposed. Firstly, in this method, source images are decomposed into low-pass and high-pass subbands by NSST. Then, due to the characteristic features--large sparsity and strong contrast, the high-frequency and low-frequency coefficients of the images are fused by the different fusion rules. Finally, the image is reconstructed by the inverse non-sampled shearlet transform. In the method, the fusion rules are designed based on the regional energy and the average gradient; the image entropy, relative quality, average gradient, standard deviation and spatial frequency were used to evaluate the fusion results objectively. In the experiments, CT and MRI images are chosen to verify the method. Both the visual and the objective analysis show that the proposed method is better than the conventional Wavelet-based and non-subsampled Contourlet-based methods.

Semi-Rational Screening of Probiotics from the Fecal Flora of Healthy Adults against DSS-Induced Colitis Mice by Enhancing Anti-Inflammatory Activity and Modulating the Gut Microbiota

( Weiwei Wang ),( Wentao Xing ),( Sichen Wei ),( Qiaoying Gao ),( Xinliang Wei ),( Liang Shi ),( Yu Kong ),( Zhenhua Su ) 한국미생물생명공학회(구 한국산업미생물학회) 2019 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.29 No.9

Ulcerative colitis (UC), a chronic inflammatory bowel disease, substantially impacts patients’ health-related quality of life. In this study, an effective strategy for discovering high-efficiency probiotics has been developed. First, in order to survive in the conditions of the stomach and intestine, high bile salt-resistant and strong acid-resistant strains were screened out from the fecal flora of healthy adults. Next, the probiotic candidates were rescreened by examining the induction ability of IL-10 (anti-inflammatory factor) production in dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis mice, and Lactobacillus sakei 07 (L07) was identified and selected as probiotic P. In the end, fourteen bifidobacterium strains isolated from stools of healthy males were examined for their antimicrobial activity. Bifidobacterium bifidum B10 (73.75% inhibition rate) was selected as probiotic B. Moreover, the colonic IL-6 and TNF-α expression of the DSS-induced colitis mice treated with L. sakei 07 (L07) - B. bifidum B10 combination (PB) significantly decreased and the IL-10 expression was up-regulated by PB compared to the DSS group. Furthermore, Bacteroidetes and Actinobacteria decreased and Firmicutes increased in the DSS group mice, significantly. More interestingly, the intestinal flora biodiversity of DSS colitis mice was increased by PB. Of those, the level of B. bifidum increased significantly. The Bacteriodetes/Firmicutes (B/F) ratio increased, and the concentration of homocysteine and LPS in plasma was down-regulated by PB in the DSS-induced colitis mice. Upon administration of PB, the intestinal permeability of the the DSS-induced colitis mice was decreased by approximately 2.01-fold. This method is expected to be used in high-throughput screening of the probiotics against colitis. In addition, the L. sakei 07 - B. bifidum B10 combination holds potential in UC remission by immunomodulatory and gut microbiota modulation.

      • An Image Fusion Algorithm Based on Non-subsampled Shearlet Transform and Compressed Sensing

XING Xiaoxue,LI Jie,FAN Qinyin,SHANG Weiwei 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.9 No.3

In order to obtain rapid fusion speed, an image fusion algorithm based on Non-subsampled Shearlet Transform (NSST) and Compressed Sensing (CS) is presented. The source images are decomposed with NSST. Based on local area energy, the low-frequency coefficients are fused. The high-frequency coefficients are compressed, fused and reconstructed with CS. Based on global gradient, the measurements of high-frequency coefficients are fused. The inverse NSST is used to get the final fused image. During the fusion course, only the compressed data of the high-frequency coefficients are fused, so the fusion effects can’t be affected. At the same time, the running time can be reduced. In this paper, the multi-focus images are used to verify the algorithm effectiveness. The simulation results indicate that the fusion image can be achieved without prior knowledge of the original images. Although the fusion quality is sacrificed when the sampling rate becomes higher, the algorithm can significantly reduce the time cost and hardware requirements. The algorithm provides an idea on how to satisfy the real time requirements in the fusion system.

Experiment and Modelling on Effective Width of single and twin I-beam Composite Girders

        Zongyi Wen,Xing Wei,Weiwei Lin,Junmin Zhao,Lin Xiao 대한토목학회 2023 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.27 No.6

Effective width (beff) has been widely used by designers, and several specifications can be selected. However, insufficient research has been conducted on the beff of single and twin I-beam composite girders. Thus, finite element (FE) models, calibrated by the experiment, were used to study the effects of slab thickness, web position, interaction degree (ID) of shear studs, width-to-span ratio, and their coupling effects on beff. Different loading types and two definitions of beff were elaborated. The FE results were compared with specifications in Eurocode 4 (EC4) and AASHTO LRFD bridge design specifications (AASHTO). The following results were obtained. The modeling agrees with the experiment. The critical steel height-to-slab thickness ratio is around 4. When the ratio deviates from the critical value, beff is reduced with the increase of slab thickness. ID has a slight influence on beff. beff changes within 10% when ID changes within 10%. The maximum beff can be obtained when the web spacing-to-physical width ratio is 1/2. The decrease of web spacing brings a maximum reduction of 14% on beff, whereas increasing web spacing results in a maximum reduction of 70% for twin I-beam. The coupled effect of web position and slab thickness is limited. The maximum difference is 25%. Recommended equations were proposed to evaluate beff for single I-beam and twin I-beam composite girders based on the specifications in EC4 and AASHTO, which can ensure that the negative error is within 10%.

DA-Res2Net: a novel Densely connected residual Attention network for image semantic segmentation

( Xiaopin Zhao ),( Weibin Liu ),( Weiwei Xing ),( Xiang Wei ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2020 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.14 No.11

Since scene segmentation is becoming a hot topic in the field of autonomous driving and medical image analysis, researchers are actively trying new methods to improve segmentation accuracy. At present, the main issues in image semantic segmentation are intra-class inconsistency and inter-class indistinction. From our analysis, the lack of global information as well as macroscopic discrimination on the object are the two main reasons. In this paper, we propose a Densely connected residual Attention network (DA-Res2Net) which consists of a dense residual network and channel attention guidance module to deal with these problems and improve the accuracy of image segmentation. Specifically, in order to make the extracted features equipped with stronger multi-scale characteristics, a densely connected residual network is proposed as a feature extractor. Furthermore, to improve the representativeness of each channel feature, we design a Channel-Attention-Guide module to make the model focusing on the high-level semantic features and low-level location features simultaneously. Experimental results show that the method achieves significant performance on various datasets. Compared to other state-of-the-art methods, the proposed method reaches the mean IOU accuracy of 83.2% on PASCAL VOC 2012 and 79.7% on Cityscapes dataset, respectively.

A robust Correlation Filter based tracker with rich representation and a relocation component

( Menglei Jin ),( Weibin Liu ),( Weiwei Xing ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2019 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.13 No.10

Correlation Filter was recently demonstrated to have good characteristics in the field of video object tracking. The advantages of Correlation Filter based trackers are reflected in the high accuracy and robustness it provides while maintaining a high speed. However, there are still some necessary improvements that should be made. First, most trackers cannot handle multi-scale problems. To solve this problem, our algorithm combines position estimation with scale estimation. The difference from the traditional method in regard to the scale estimation is that, the proposed method can track the scale of the object more quickly and effective. Additionally, in the feature extraction module, the feature representation of traditional algorithms is relatively simple, and furthermore, the tracking performance is easily affected in complex scenarios. In this paper, we design a novel and powerful feature that can significantly improve the tracking performance. Finally, traditional trackers often suffer from model drift, which is caused by occlusion and other complex scenarios. We introduce a relocation component to detect object at other locations such as the secondary peak of the response map. It partly alleviates the model drift problem.

Preparation and properties of sulfated zirconia for hydrolysis of ethyl lactate

        Weixing Li,Yingxiang Ni,Weiwei Liu,Weihong Xing,Nanping Xu 한국화학공학회 2013 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.30 No.6

Sulfated zirconia catalysts are proposed for the reversible hydrolysis of ethyl lactate instead of liquid acids. Sulfated zirconia catalysts were prepared by precipitation-impregnation method. The zirconium hydroxide was produced from zirconium oxychloride by adding aqueous ammonia and then impregnated in sulfuric acid. The solid samples were obtained by filtration and evaporation of the mixtures, respectively. After the samples were calcined, the sulfated zirconia catalysts were prepared. The results showed that the catalyst prepared by evaporation has higher catalytic activity. The physicochemical characteristics of the sulfated zirconia catalysts were studied by thermal analysis, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), temperature programmed desorption of ammonia (NH3-TPD) and N2 adsorption-desorption,respectively. By the precipitation-impregnation-evaporation method, the optimal sulfated zirconia catalyst of tetragonal phase was prepared under liquid-solid ratio of 5ml/g, 1 mol/L of H2SO4 and calcination at 650 oC for 3 h. The conversion of the ethyl lactate was 87.8% in 3 h at 85 oC with the catalyst loading 2 wt% and initial molar ratio of water to ethyl lactate 20 : 1.

A Framework for Human Motion Segmentation Based on Multiple Information of Motion Data

( Xiaofei Zan ),( Weibin Liu ),( Weiwei Xing ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2019 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.13 No.9

With the development of films, games and animation industry, analysis and reuse of human motion capture data become more and more important. Human motion segmentation, which divides a long motion sequence into different types of fragments, is a key part of mocap-based techniques. However, most of the segmentation methods only take into account low-level physical information (motion characteristics) or high-level data information (statistical characteristics) of motion data. They cannot use the data information fully. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised framework using both low-level physical information and high-level data information of human motion data to solve the human segmentation problem. First, we introduce the algorithm of CFSFDP and optimize it to carry out initial segmentation and obtain a good result quickly. Second, we use the ACA method to perform optimized segmentation for improving the result of segmentation. The experiments demonstrate that our framework has an excellent performance.

Long-term Survivals, Toxicities and the Role of Chemotherapy in Early-Stage Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Patients Treated with Intensity-modulated Radiation Therapy: A Retrospective Study with 15-year Follow-up

        Lin Wang,Jingjing Miao,Huageng Huang,Boyu Chen,Xiao Xiao,Manyi Zhu,Yingshan Liang,Weiwei Xiao,Shaomin Huang,Yinglin Peng,Xiaowu Deng,Xing Lv,Weixiong Xia,Yanqun Xiang,Xiang Guo,Fei Han,Chong Zhao 대한암학회 2022 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.54 No.1

Purpose This study was aimed to investigate long-term survivals and toxicities of early-stage nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in endemic area, evaluating the role of chemotherapy in stage II patients. Materials and Methods Totally 187 patients with newly diagnosed NPC and restaged American Joint Committee on Cancer/ International Union Against Cancer 8th T1-2N0-1M0 were retrospectively recruited. All received intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT)±chemotherapy (CT) from 2001 to 2010. Results With 15.7-year median follow-up, 10-year locoregional recurrence-free survival, distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), disease-specific survival (DSS), and overall survival (OS) were 93.3%, 93.5%, 92.9% and 88.2%, respectively. Multivariable analyses showed cervical lymph nodes positive and pre-treatment prognostic nutritional index ≥ 52.0 could independently predict DMFS (p=0.036 and p=0.011), DSS (p=0.014 and p=0.026), and OS (p=0.002 and p < 0.001); Charlson comorbidity index < 3 points could predict DSS (p=0.011); age > 45 years (p=0.002) and pre-treatment lactate dehydrogenase ≥ 240 U/L (p < 0.001) predicted OS. No grade 4 late toxicity happened; grade 3 late toxicities included subcutaneous fibrosis (4.3%), deafness or otitis (4.8%), skin dystrophy (2.1%), and xerostomia (1.1%). No differences on survivals were shown between IMRT+CT vs. IMRT alone in stage II patients, even in T2N1M0 (p > 0.05). Unsurprising, patients in IMRT+CT had more acute gastrointestinal reaction, myelosuppression, mucositis, late ear toxicity, and cranial nerve injury (all p < 0.05) than IMRT alone group. Conclusion Superior tumor control and satisfying long-term outcomes could be achieved with IMRT in early-stage NPC with mild late toxicities. As CT would bring more toxicities, it should be carefully performed to stage II patients.

Theoretical Analysis on Molecular Magnetic Properties of N-Confused Porphyrins and Its Derivatives

        Wei, Wei,Bai, Fu-Quan,Xia, Bao-Hui,Zhang, Hong-Xing Korean Chemical Society 2012 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.33 No.9

We have theoretically investigated the magnetic properties of N-confused porphyrin (NCP), tetraphenyl-N-confused porphyrin (TPNCP) and their substituted derivatives with O, S and Se heteroatoms (2ONCP, 2STPNCP, 2SeNCP, 2OTPNCP, etc.) by using DFT method. In the minimum energy structures of the 2OTPNCP, the two couples opposite phenyl substitutes are staggered. In the case of TPNCP, 2STPNCP and 2SeTPNCP, two phenyls being respectively close to or opposite to N-confused pyrrole are found to be pointed the same direction, whilst others are in the opposite direction. Based on the equilibrium structures, the $^1H$ chemical shifts and nucleus-independent chemical shifts (NICS) are calculated in this paper. The ${\pi}$ current density being induced by the tridimensional perpendicular magnetic field transmits the inner section of the pyrrole segments for NCP and TPNCP. As for their substituted derivatives with O, S and Se atoms, the current path passes through the outer section of the two heterorings. The NICS values at the ring critical points of the heterorings are much lower (in absolute value) than those of which is at the center of an isolated pyrrole molecule. The $^1H$ NMR for ${\beta}H$ atoms of the heterorings decreases from O, S to with Se.
