Background/Aims: We applied a back light system (BLS) with a magnifying glass to improve the ability to assess the adequacy ofspecimen sampling using endosonography. We conducted this study to evaluate the effcacy of the BLS in sampling of specimens byendoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration of solid pancreatic masses. Methods: This was a prospective, randomized, crossover, single-center clinical trial. An endosonographer evaluated adequacy on grossvisual inspection and identified whitish specimen sampling sites with and without the BLS according to a randomization sequence inthe first and second passes with a 25-G needle. On cytological evaluation, the presence of well-defined pancreatic ductal epithelium wasevaluated by a cytopathologist who was blinded to any clinical information. Results: A total of 80 consecutive patients were eligible during the study period. Adequacy was observed for 52 specimens (65%) withthe BLS and 54 (68%) without the BLS (p=0.88). In assessment of specimen adequacy on gross examination, only fair agreement wasobserved both with and without BLS (kappa score 0.40 and 0.29, respectively). Conclusions: The BLS did not influence the ability to identify specimen sampling sites or reliable assessment of specimen site adequacyusing gross visual inspection.
2D Droplet Size and Velocity Analysis of a Fan-Shaped Spray Using Ilids Method

DI (direct injection) systems have been studied to improve thermal efficiency of gasoline engines. The analysis of spray behavior is important to examine the combustion characteristics of DI gasoline engines because fuel-air mixture formation is controlled by spray characteristics and gas motion. In this study, the characteristics of a fan-shaped spray, such as the droplet size, its velocity and the droplet-size distribution were simultaneously measured on a 2D plane by using an improved ILIDS (Interferometric Laser Imaging for Droplet Sizing) method. As a result, interesting relationships between the droplets diameter and the velocity were found. In addition, numerical analysis of a fan-shaped spray was conducted and the results were compared to the measured results. In numerical analysis, the nozzle internal flow was predicted by using VOF (Volume of Fluid) model that can simulate the two-phase flow inside the nozzle to give the liquid film formation process outside the nozzle. Using the results of VOF model for the initial conditions, numerical analysis of the spray by DDM (Discrete Droplet Model) was carried out to examine the droplets breakup process. As a result, SMD has become small with going away from the nozzle center section that is the same tendency as the experiment.
Real-time Railway Network Simulation and Alleviating Congestion of Crowded Trains

In the railway transportation service, on-time operation of trains is important. However, once an accident occurs, on-time operation be comes difficult due to a change of the passenger flow pattern. In this case, it is crucial to estimate the changing pattern. This paper presents a real-time Tokyo Metro Rail way Network simulator “KUTTY”, which can immediately estimate the change of the passenger flow pattern even if an accident occurs at the busiest area. Moreover, we have presented are scheduling method of homogenization to all eviate congestion of crowded train. It is found that our method is more efficient than the conventional one.
