        Radioprotective and Antioxidant Activity of Fractionated Extracts of Berries of Hippophae rhamnoides

        Plants are an abundant source of medicinal compounds, some of which are useful in combating free radical-1002 (flavonoid-poor fraction) of Hippophae rhamnoideswere screened on the basis of their reducing power in the aqueousphase. REC-1001 was selected for further study, since it exhibited 27.38 times higher antioxidant activity than REC-1002.REC-1001 also showed significant (P. .05) membrane protection potential at 50 .g/mL, which was attributed to its abilityto scavenge peroxyl radicals (64.82. 1.25% scavenging within 1,440 min). A significant (P. .05) difference of 67.02% infree radical scavenging activity at 1,000 ng/mL between REC-1001 and vitamin E demonstrated the extract fraction’s worthc-tion. Further, REC-1001 was found to be nontoxic up to 200 mg/kg of body weight. This research suggests that the REC-1001 fraction of H. rhamnoidesextract is a safe and effective antioxidant nutraceutical product.

        Exploring High-Temperature Reliability of 4H-SiC MOSFETs : A Comparative Study of High-K Gate Dielectric Materials

        In this article, we delve into the reliability of various oxide/4H-SiC interfaces when exposed to elevated temperatures and carrier-trapping conditions. Our investigation primarily centers around the impact of diff erent gate dielectric materials on the electrical characteristics of a low breakdown 4H-SiC-based MOSFET. The gate dielectrics under scrutiny include SiO2, Si3N4, AlN, Al2O3, Y2O3, and HfO2. We fi nd that the choice of gate oxide material signifi cantly infl uences the transistor’s performance, with gate oxides possessing higher relative permittivity notably enhancing its characteristics. Among the materials studied, HfO2 emerges as the most promising candidate, demonstrating superior immunity behaviors in the MOSFET. However, the use of HfO2 is associated with increased gate leakage current. To mitigate this drawback, we introduce a thin interfacial layer (2 nm-thick) in the HfO2/4H-SiC MOS structure. Interestingly, two alternative gate stacked dielectrics, involving either SiO2 or Al2O3, prove effective in preserving the transistor’s on-state performance metrics while limiting gate leakage current across the entire range of gate voltages examined. To validate the predictive capabilities of our modeling analysis, we compare our simulation results with experimental data from the literature, and we observe a favorable agreement. This research holds particular signifi cance in applications employing low-power MOSFETs, where reliability and durability are as critical as performance. For instance, in the context of power optimizers for photovoltaic modules, which fall under the category of low-load and low-voltage DC–DC converters, these devices play a pivotal role in enhancing energy generationunder challenging environmental conditions while ensuring long-term reliability.

        Psychiatric, Somatic and Other Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders in Patients With Irritable Bowel Syndrome at a Tertiary Care Center

        Background/Aims To study the prevalence of somatic and psychiatric co-morbidities in the patients of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and to assess the quality of life (QOL) of these patients. Methods One hundred and eighty-four IBS patients and 198 controls were included. Diagnosis of IBS, its sub-classification and assessment of other functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) was made on basis of Rome III criteria. Severity of IBS was assessed using IBS severity scoring system. Psychiatric evaluation was done using Patient Heath Questionnaire. QOL was evaluated using WHO QOL-BREF. Results One hundred and forty-seven (79.9%) and 158 (85.9%) patients with IBS had at least one other FGID or at least one somatic co-morbidity, respectively. Higher number of patients had at least one psychiatric co-morbidity compared to controls (79.9% vs 34.3%; P < 0.001). Major depressive syndrome (47.3% vs 5.1%; P < 0.001), somatoform disorder (50% vs 14.6%; P < 0.001) and panic syndrome (44% vs 11.6%; P < 0.001) were more common in IBS than controls. Only 14 (7.6%) patients were receiving drug treatment for their psychiatric illness. Severe IBS symptoms were present in significantly higher number of patients with constipation predominant IBS than diarrhea predominant IBS. Those with severe disease had higher prevalence of psychiatric (95.1%) and somatic (96.7%) co-morbidities compared with mild disease. QOL of IBS patients was significantly lower in all four domains compared to controls. Presence of at least one other FGID was significantly associated with presence of one or more psychiatric co-morbidity (P < 0.001). Conclusions Majority of IBS patients presenting to a tertiary care center had associated psychiatric, somatic co-morbidities and reduced QOL. Very few of them received specific psychiatric treatment.         68Ga‑DOTANOC PET/CT for Screening and Surveillance of Von Hippel‑Lindau (VHL) disease

        Purpose Hereditary tumor syndrome Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease is characterized by various benign and malignanttumors that are known to express somatostatin receptors (SSTR). We evaluated the role of 68Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT scan inpatients with positive germline mutation of the VHL gene, presented initially or on follow-up, for the detection of recurrentor synchronous/metachronous lesions. Methods Fourteen patients (8 males; 6 females) with mean age 30 ± 9.86 years were retrospectively analyzed, were testedpositive for VHL on gene dosage analysis, and underwent 68 Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT scan for disease evaluation. The numberand site of lesions were determined. The tracer uptake was analyzed semi-quantitatively by calculating the maximumstandardized uptake values (SUVmax) of lesion. Results Four of the 14 patients underwent scan for initial diagnosis as baseline, 6 patients for post-therapy disease status,and 4 patients for initial diagnosis as well as follow-up evaluation of the disease. A total of 67 lesions were detected in 14patients. The sites of lesions were cerebellar/vertebral/spinal (17; mean SUVmax = 7.85); pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor(NET) (11; mean SUVmax = 20.64); retina (3; mean SUVmax = 10.46); pheochromocytoma (10; mean SUVmax = 16.32);paragangliomas (3; mean SUVmax = 10.65); pancreatic cyst (9; mean SUVmax = 2.54); and renal cyst (8; mean SUVmax= 1.56) and miscellaneous lesions constituted 6 lesions. Conclusion Our results show that 68 Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT may be a useful modality for screening and follow-up of associatedtumors in patients with germline gene mutation for VHL. It can be used as a one-stop imaging modality for VHL patientsand may substitute for separate radiological investigations, making it more convenient for patients in terms of time and cost.
