Bipartite clavicular attachment of the sternocleidomastoid muscle: a case report

        Vandana Mehta,Jyoti Arora,Ashwani Kumar,Ashish Kumar Nayar,Hitendra Kumar Ioh,Vanita Gupta,Rajesh Kuamr Suri,Gayatri Rath 대한해부학회 2012 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.45 No.1

Morphological variations of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle assume relevance during attempted surgical interventions in the cervical region. The present study reports bipartite clavicular attachment of the SCM in the neck of an adult male cadaver during performance of a routine anatomy demonstration. The anomaly was unilaterally observed on the left side of the neck. The clavicular head of the muscle exhibited two bellies, one medial and one lateral. While the medial belly was fused with the sternal head, the lateral belly appeared to blend with the medial. Cranially, the SCM attached to the mastoid process and superior nuchal line. We have attempted to elucidate the embryological basis of the above muscular variant. Additionally, we discuss its clinical relevance, highlighting the utility of the SCM in various reconstructive procedures. We assert that detailed anatomical knowledge of such SCM variants is of utility not only to the gross anatomist, but also for neck and orthopaedic surgeons and anaesthetists. Moreover, radiologists require familiarity with such aberrations to decipher magnetic resonance imaging scans of the cervical region.

68Ga‑DOTANOC PET/CT for Screening and Surveillance of Von Hippel‑Lindau (VHL) disease

        Shamim Ahmed Shamim,Geetanjali Arora,Naresh Kumar,Jhangir Hussain,Shreya Datta Gupta,Arun Raj ST,Kritin Shankar,Alpesh Goyal,Rajesh Khadgawat,Sambit Sagar,Chandrasekhar Bal 대한핵의학회 2023 핵의학 분자영상 Vol.57 No.5

Purpose Hereditary tumor syndrome Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease is characterized by various benign and malignanttumors that are known to express somatostatin receptors (SSTR). We evaluated the role of 68Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT scan inpatients with positive germline mutation of the VHL gene, presented initially or on follow-up, for the detection of recurrentor synchronous/metachronous lesions. Methods Fourteen patients (8 males; 6 females) with mean age 30 ± 9.86 years were retrospectively analyzed, were testedpositive for VHL on gene dosage analysis, and underwent 68 Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT scan for disease evaluation. The numberand site of lesions were determined. The tracer uptake was analyzed semi-quantitatively by calculating the maximumstandardized uptake values (SUVmax) of lesion. Results Four of the 14 patients underwent scan for initial diagnosis as baseline, 6 patients for post-therapy disease status, and 4 patients for initial diagnosis as well as follow-up evaluation of the disease. A total of 67 lesions were detected in 14patients. The sites of lesions were cerebellar/vertebral/spinal (17; mean SUVmax = 7.85); pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor(NET) (11; mean SUVmax = 20.64); retina (3; mean SUVmax = 10.46); pheochromocytoma (10; mean SUVmax = 16.32);paragangliomas (3; mean SUVmax = 10.65); pancreatic cyst (9; mean SUVmax = 2.54); and renal cyst (8; mean SUVmax= 1.56) and miscellaneous lesions constituted 6 lesions. Conclusion Our results show that 68 Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT may be a useful modality for screening and follow-up of associatedtumors in patients with germline gene mutation for VHL. It can be used as a one-stop imaging modality for VHL patientsand may substitute for separate radiological investigations, making it more convenient for patients in terms of time and cost.

Radioprotective and Antioxidant Activity of Fractionated Extracts of Berries of Hippophae rhamnoides

        Rakesh Kumar Sharma,Raman Chawla,Rajesh Arora,Shikha Singh,Ravinder Kumar Sagar,Raj Kumar,Ashok Sharma,Manju L. Gupta,Surender Singh,Jagdish Prasad,Haider A. Khan,Anand Swaroop,A.K. Sinha,A.K. Gupta,R 한국식품영양과학회 2007 Journal of medicinal food Vol.10 No.1

Plants are an abundant source of medicinal compounds, some of which are useful in combating free radical-1002 (flavonoid-poor fraction) of Hippophae rhamnoideswere screened on the basis of their reducing power in the aqueousphase. REC-1001 was selected for further study, since it exhibited 27.38 times higher antioxidant activity than REC-1002.REC-1001 also showed significant (P. .05) membrane protection potential at 50 .g/mL, which was attributed to its abilityto scavenge peroxyl radicals (64.82. 1.25% scavenging within 1,440 min). A significant (P. .05) difference of 67.02% infree radical scavenging activity at 1,000 ng/mL between REC-1001 and vitamin E demonstrated the extract fraction’s worthc-tion. Further, REC-1001 was found to be nontoxic up to 200 mg/kg of body weight. This research suggests that the REC-1001 fraction of H. rhamnoidesextract is a safe and effective antioxidant nutraceutical product.

Proteomic Analysis of Global Changes in Protein Expression During Exposure of Gamma Radiation in Bacillus sp. HKG 112 Isolated from Saline Soil

( Gupta Anil Kumar ),( Rajiv Pathak ),( Bharat Singh ),( Hemlata Gautam ),( Ram Kumar ),( Raj Kumar ),( Rajesh Arora ),( Hemant K. Gautam ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2011 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.21 No.6

A Gram-positive bacterium was isolated from the saline soils of Jangpura (U.P.), India, and showed high-level of radiation-resistant property and survived upto 12.5 kGy dose of gamma radiation. The 16S rDNA sequence of this strain was examined, identified as Bacillus sp. strain HKG 112, and was submitted to the NCBI GenBank (Accession No. GQ925432). The mechanism of radiation resistance and gene level expression were examined by proteomic analysis of whole-cell extract. Two proteins, 38 kDa and 86.5 kDa excised from SDS-PAGE, which showed more significant changes after radiation exposure, were identified by MALDI-TOF as being flagellin and S-layer protein, respectively. Twenty selected 2-DE protein spots from the crude extracts of Bacillus sp. HKG 112, excised from 2- DE, were identified by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) out of which 16 spots showed significant changes after radiation exposure and might be responsible for the radiation resistance property. Our results suggest that the different responses of some genes under radiation for the expression of radiation-dependent proteins could contribute to a physiological advantage and would be a significant initial step towards a fullsystem understanding of the radiation stress protection mechanisms of bacteria in different environments.
