Server and Storage Performance Testing for Data Center Construction

The increase in data triggered by the smartphone revolution has led to a growing interest in cloud-based data centers. However, while much research has been conducted on virtualization technologies for cloud data centers, there has not been enough research on the performance of physical systems. As manufacturers only provide performance figures measured in their own system’s favor, objective and consistent performance testing metrics and methods are needed for performance measurement. This paper suggests some performance testing metrics and methods for cloud-based physical systems using TPC, SPECjbb and SPC.
Auto-configurable Security Mechanism for NFV

Recently, NFV has attracted attention as a next-generation network virtualization technology for hardware -independent and efficient utilization of resources. NFV is a technology that not only virtualize computing, server, storage, network resources based on cloud computing but also connect Multi-Tenant of VNFs, a software network function. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the cost for constructing a physical network and to construct a logical network quickly by using NFV. However, in NFV, when a new VNF is added to a running Tenant, authentication between VNFs is not performed. Because of this problem, it is impossible to identify the presence of Fake-VNF in the tenant. Such a problem can cause an access from malicious attacker to one of VNFs in tenant as well as other VNFs in the tenant, disabling the NFV environment. In this paper, we propose Auto-configurable Security Mechanism in NFV including authentication between tenant-internal VNFs, and enforcement mechanism of security policy for traffic control between VNFs. This proposal not only authenticate identification of VNF when the VNF is registered, but also apply the security policy automatically to prevent malicious behavior in the tenant. Therefore, we can establish an independent communication channel for VNFs and guarantee a secure NFV environment.

최근 인터넷 이용의 증가는 전송 링크의 광대역 지원과 멀티미디어 트래픽이 QoS 보장 등의 문제 해결을 필수적으로 요구하게 되었다. 또한 현재 인터넷 IP 서비스에서 한 단계 향상된 서비스, 즉 가상 사설망(Virtual Private Network) 서비스나 Voice over IP, Video over IP, 웹 호스팅, 전자 상거래 제공 등이 현실적인 문제로 대두 되면서 이를 지원할 수 있는 네트워크 구성 요소의 필요성은 증가하고 있다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 IP와 ATM의 통합으로 MPLS 기술 개발이 활발히 진행되고 있다. MPLS 시스템이 현재 IP 네트워크에서 지원하는 것 이상으로 보다 유용한 운용(Operation), 관리(Administration), 유지보수(Maintenance) 기능을 지원해야 하기 때문에 네트워크 운용과 관리(OAM)는 매우 중요한다. 본 논문에서는 ACE2000 ATM 교환기를 기반으로 하는 MPLS 시스템에서 OAM 계층화 레벨을 고려함으로써 ATM 시스템의 운용관리 기능과 연계처리 가능한 MPLS 시스템에서의 통합 운용관리 기능을 설계하고 구현하다.
QoE-based Reinforcement Learning at MEC for Improving 4K Streaming Quality

4K or ultra-high-definition (UHD) will be the standard for video streaming in the next decade. In this research, we carry a study on dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (DASH) which is a crucial adaptive algorithm. More specifically, we employ asynchronous reinforcement learning (RL) algorithm in the form of quality of experience (QoE). In fact, QoE is an important factor to evaluate the efficiency of streaming transmission models. Hence, we made every streaming request must be passed through a MEC server, and the MEC make a decision to retrieve segments for clients. Experiment result shows that our proposed QoE RL algorithm achieves higher quality compared to our previous research on the same context of content-awareness.
Coordinated thread block scheduling and warp scheduler for workload distribution

Throughput-oriented applications require special systems such as graphics processing units (GPUs) to achieve high efficiency. Complex applications are normally divided into smaller species of workload to be executed by utilizing parallelism. However, the workload cannot be distributed equally to every GPU resources, leading to resource underutilization. This paper proposes a simple approach to balance the workload distribution by limiting new issued Cooperative Threads Array (CTAs) to streaming processors (SMs) if they receive enough CTA. Our proposal can increase the resource utilization by prioritizing the warps belong to the last issued CTA. Experimental results show performance improvement by 1.26% on average compared to the baseline GTO (Greedy Then Oldest) warp scheduler.
