Improving the Architecture of Communication Middleware for Social Networking Services
2015 International Journal of Software Engineering and Vol.9 No.11
We propose an improved version of our communication middleware for social networking services (CMSNS) designed to support the rapid development of a social networking service (SNS) application through simple application programming interfaces (APIs) and configuration options related to communication among users. With CMSNS, a developer can easily build the communication-related functions that are commonly required for SNS applications, including communication architecture management, user registration and authentication, event transmission, and SNS messages with friends. We improved the internal architecture of the proposed CMSNS to provide platform independence, save event size, use an event queue to efficiently process events, and adopt a model-view-controller (MVC) design pattern to separate the internal information from multiple event controller modules.

In this paper, we propose a common simulation model that can be reused for different performance evaluations of networked virtual environments. To this end, we analyzed the common features of NVEs, in which multiple regions compose a shared space, and where a user has his/her own interest area. Communication architecture can be client-server or peer-server models. In usual simulations, users move around the world while the number of users varies with the system. Our model provides various simulation parameters to customize the region configuration and user movement pattern. Furthermore, our model introduces a way to mimic a lot of users in a minimal experiment environment. The proposed model is integrated with our network framework, which supports various scalability approaches. We specifically applied our model to the interest management and load distribution schemes to evaluate communication overhead. With the proposed simulation model, a new simulation can be easily designed in a large-scale environment.

Vol.68 No.6
In this paper, we propose a communication framework (CM) that supports both client and server applications development on desktop and mobile platforms. Previous versions of CM and other related frameworks did not specify the platform on which the application runs, or they limited the platform only to the desktop environment. By extending the existing CM client to the Android application, the proposed CM has been improved to enable developers to use various high-level communication services in a consistent way regardless of the application platform. First, the application can place the CM configuration file in an arbitrary path and edit it through a new application programming interface (API) to solve the management problem of separate files in the Android platform. We also changed CM APIs such that CM internally makes the network-related functions called by a separate thread rather than the main thread that is forbidden from calling the network function in the Android platform.
Vol.26 No.2Ⅲ
Vol.65 No.8
In this paper, we propose a multi-level content transmission mechanism for intelligent quality of service (QoS) in social networking services (SNSs). Because existing SNSs and related work send image content to a client with a single fixed mechanism, they cannot consistently support content accessibility according to different conditions of QoS factors such as network congestion and throughput. In the proposed image transmission mechanism, our communication middleware (CM) provides an SNS developer with three transmission modes so that an SNS server or client can dynamically change the quality of images if required. In each transmission mode, an SNS server can send images to a requesting client with original high quality, thumbnail quality, or send only text information. With varying qualities of downloaded images, an SNS developed on top of CM can provide users with consistent QoS for access to SNS content.
Feasibility Study of Block-Matching and 3D Filtering Algorithm in Low-Dose CT Image with Tin Filter
Mingyu Song,Minsu Kim,Junsoo Lim,Donghwan Chun,Minji Park,Jina Shim,Youngjin Lee 한국자기학회 2023 Journal of Magnetics Vol.28 No.1
The purpose of this study was to confirm the utility of block-matching and 3D filtering (BM3D) algorithm in computed tomography (CT) images using a tin filter with a high pitch. We acquired phantom images and measured the coefficient of variation (COV) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) for quantitative evaluation. The optimized results were obtained when the sigma value of the BM3D algorithm was nine. In addition, when the sigma value of the optimized BM3D algorithm was applied, superior results were obtained compared with conventional filtering methods. In particular, we confirmed that the COV and CNR of the images obtained using the BM3D algorithm improved 6.52 and 5.49 times, respectively. In conclusion, the utility of the optimized BM3D algorithm has been demonstrated in low-dose CT images using a tin filter.
