This paper proposes an enhanced ERICA+ Algorithm, which calculates FS based on MCR, to provide accurate fair allocation. It provides MCR guarantees and fairly divides the remained available bandwidth. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves a better performance in link utilization, fairness, and transient response. Therefore, this proposed algorithm seems to be suitable for various ABR services properly with raising the fairness in ATM Networks.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the muscle activity of the trunk muscles during balance exercises on a stable and unstable surface in patients with stroke. Methods: Thirteen subjects (8 males, 5 females) with stroke were enrolled in the study. Muscle activity was recorded using surface EMG electrodes from the affected side of the erector spinae, external oblique, and internal oblique muscles. The exercise was performed under three conditions. For the first condition for balance exercise, subjects were instructed to sit on an exercise mat with legs extended. The second condition was to sit with legs extended, with a balance pad under their buttocks. The third condition was to sit with legs extended, have a balance pad under the buttocks and a balance cushion under the lower legs. Results: This study showed significant differences in EMG activities during both arm lifting exercise and weight shifting exercise between conditions. This study showed that the EMG activities of the erector spinae, external oblique, and internal oblique muscles were significantly higher when the trunk exercise was performed using the balance pad with balance ball than when using the stable surface. Conclusion: In conclusion, performing balance exercises using an unstable surface is a useful method for facilitating trunk-muscle strength and hence trunk stability.

PURPOSE: This study examined the efficacy of an interferential current (IFC) treatment on the improvement of pain, disability, and quality of life in stroke patients with lumbago. METHODS: A double-blind, randomized clinical trial was conducted on 40 stroke patients with lumbago. The patients were allocated randomly into two groups: the IFC treatment group (n= 20) and the placebo treatment group (n= 20). The IFC group received 30 minutes of IFC treatment on the lumbar region, while the placebo group received IFC treatment but without real electrical stimulation. The intervention was administered five days a week for four weeks. The primary outcomes of pain intensity were measured using a visual analogue scale. The secondary measurements included the Barthel Index, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). RESULTS: The measurements were conducted before and after the two-week intervention period. Compared to the placebo treatment group, the IFC treatment group showed significantly greater improvement in the pain intensity (p<.05), ODI (p<.05), and SF-36 (p<.05) at the end of the intervention. No significant differences in the Barthel Index were found between the two groups. CONCLUSION: These findings show that an IFC treatment can improve pain, functional ability, and quality of life, highlighting the benefits of somatosensory stimulation from IFC in stroke patients with lumbago.

PURPOSE: This study investigated the efficacy of interferential current (IFC) treatment on the improvement of pain, disability, and balance in patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain. METHODS: A double-blind randomized clinical trial was conducted with 40 patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain. The patients were randomly allocated into two groups: the IFC treatment group (n = 20) and the placebo treatment group (n = 20). The IFC group received 30 minutes of IFC treatment on the lumbar region, while the placebo group received IFC treatment without real electrical stimulation. The intervention was administered five days a week for two weeks. RESULTS: The primary outcomes of resting pain and pain during functional movement were measured by a visual analogue scale. The secondary measurements included the Oswestry disability index (ODI) for low back pain and postural sway. The measurements were performed before and after the two-week intervention period. Compared to the placebo treatment group, the IFC treatment group showed significantly greater improvement in pain during anterior trunk flexion in the standing position (p = .029), ODI (p = .039), and postural sway when subjects stood with their eyes closed (p = .010) at the end of the intervention. CONCLUSION: Our findings show that IFC treatment can improve pain, disability, and postural sway, thus, highlighting the benefits of somatosensory stimulation from IFC.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to analyze weight bearing of cane and affected foot at different speeds during walking. Methods Thirteen subjects (6 males, 7 females) with stroke enrolled in the study. A foot sensor and an instrumented cane were integrated to analyze the vertical peak force on the affected foot and the cane. Results The applied vertical peak force on the cane were 12.02±4.80% (slow speed), 7.97±3.95% (comfortable speed), and 6.86±3.30% (fast speed) body weight, respectively. The results indicated significantly lower vertical peak force on the affected foot in the low speed walking condition when compared to the fast walking (p<.05) and the comfortable walking (p<.05) conditions. The correlations between TUG and vertical peak force on the cane and affected foot were .71, and -.70 (p<.01). There was a higher correlation between the vertical peak force on the cane and affected foot were -.87(p<.01). Conclusion In conclusion, slower walking speed applied greater vertical peak force on the cane, On the contray, slower walking speed applied less vertical peak force on the affected foot. Further studies, duration of force should be measured at different speeds during walking in lower and higher functioning hemiparetic subjects, as its use may mask underlying gait impairment.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether swiss ball exercise combined with taping would improve low back pain, disability and quality of life in women with pregnancy-related Low Back Pain (PR-LBP). Sixteen patients with PR-LBP were recruited and were randomly divided into two groups: taping and swiss ball exercise group (n=8) and taping and stretching group (n=8). The taping and swiss ball exercise group was treated with swiss ball exercise with kinesio taping, while the taping and stretching group received only taping. The taping and swiss ball exercise group performed swiss ball exercise for 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week for 4weeks, while the taping and stretching group conducted stretching exercise for the same amount of time. VAS was used to assess pain level of low back. Disability was measured using a Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire(RMDQ). Quality of life were measured by SF-36. The pain intensity of low back in the taping and swiss ball exercise group improved significantly greater than the taping and stretching group (p<0.05). Significant improvement in the disability was observed in the taping and swiss ball exercise group compared to the taping and stretching group (p<0.05). The SF 36 in the taping and swiss ball exercise group improved significantly greater than the taping and stretching group (p<0.05). Our findings indicate that swiss ball exercise combined with taping is beneficial and effective to improve low back health and quality of life in women with PR-LBP.
