Interstitial Lung Abnormalities: What Radiologists Should Know

Interstitial lung abnormalities (ILAs) are radiologic abnormalities found incidentally on chest CT that are potentially related to interstitial lung diseases. Several articles have reported that ILAs are associated with increased mortality, and they can show radiologic progression. With the increased recognition of ILAs on CT, the role of radiologists in reporting them is critical. This review aims to discuss the clinical significance and radiologic characteristics of ILAs to facilitate and enhance their management.

<P><B>Objective</B></P><P>To evaluate the preference of observers for image quality of chest radiography using the deconvolution algorithm of point spread function (PSF) (TRUVIEW ART algorithm, DRTECH Corp.) compared with that of original chest radiography for visualization of anatomic regions of the chest.</P><P><B>Materials and Methods</B></P><P>Prospectively enrolled 50 pairs of posteroanterior chest radiographs collected with standard protocol and with additional TRUVIEW ART algorithm were compared by four chest radiologists. This algorithm corrects scattered signals generated by a scintillator. Readers independently evaluated the visibility of 10 anatomical regions and overall image quality with a 5-point scale of preference. The significance of the differences in reader's preference was tested with a Wilcoxon's signed rank test.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>All four readers preferred the images applied with the algorithm to those without algorithm for all 10 anatomical regions (mean, 3.6; range, 3.2–4.0; <I>p</I> < 0.001) and for the overall image quality (mean, 3.8; range, 3.3–4.0; <I>p</I> < 0.001). The most preferred anatomical regions were the azygoesophageal recess, thoracic spine, and unobscured lung.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>The visibility of chest anatomical structures applied with the deconvolution algorithm of PSF was superior to the original chest radiography.</P>

A panel of 65 melon germplasm was used to screen for resistance to Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. melonis (Fom) and Monosporascus cannonballus. The screening test revealed 35 accessions that are highly resistant to Fom race 1 and 11 accessions with high resistance to M. cannonballus. A total of four accessions, ‘K134068’, ‘K133069’, ‘Wondae’ and ‘PI 414723’, showing resistance to both pathogens were selected as candidates for melon rootstock. Yield and quality of fruits harvested from ‘Earl``s elite’ (Muskmelon, Reticulatus Group) grafted onto the selected melon rootstocks were found comparable to or better than those of non-grafted melons. Nearly negligible incidence of fruit fermentation was observed when ‘Homerunstar’ (Honeydew type, Inodorus Group) was grafted with the selected melon rootstocks, unlike when it was grafted onto ’Shintozwa’ (Cucurbita spp.) rootstock. The selected melon accessions with resistance to Fusarium wilt and Monosporascus root rot are considered to be potential and valuable genetic resources for breeding program of melon.

This paper proposes a manufacturing process for a vehicle front seatback by compression molding a long-fiber reinforced thermoplastic(LFT). A plate-shaped PA6-LFT intermediate, preheated to a moldable temperature, was placed inside the compression mold. Then, finite element analysis, applied with the results of the rheological properties of PA6-LFT, was performed to derive the optimal number of intermediate plates and their arrangement in the mold. Ejection at a low temperature improved the thickness accuracy of areas with severe shape changes, such as ribs and bends. Furthermore, warpage measurement by using 3D scan showed that taking it out at a low temperature improved shape precision in the longitudinal and width directions of the seatback.

The brushing action in relation to the keratinization of the human gingival epithelium was studied by ears of cell smears stained with Pharr modification of the Papanicolaou's method in IO male students(ages inging from 23 to 25), each one showing normal gingiva.
