        Multi-agent Q-learning based Admission Control Mechanism in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks for Multiple Services

        In order to ensure both of the whole system capacity and users QoS requirements in heterogeneous wireless networks, admission control mechanism should be well designed. In this paper, Multi-agent Q-learning based Admission Control Mechanism (MQACM) is proposed to handle new and handoff call access problems appropriately. MQACM obtains the optimal decision policy by using an improved form of single-agent Q-learning method, Multi-agent Q-learning (MQ) method. MQ method is creatively introduced to solve the admission control problem in heterogeneous wireless networks in this paper. In addition, different priorities are allocated to multiple services aiming to make MQACM perform even well in congested network scenarios. It can be observed from both analysis and simulation results that our proposed method not only outperforms existing schemes with enhanced call blocking probability and handoff dropping probability performance, but also has better network universality and stability than other schemes.

        The first complete chloroplast genome of <i>Polygonatum hirtellum</i>: Genome features and phylogenetic relationships

        <i>Polygonatum hirtellum</i> is a perennial herb within the family Asparagaceae. In the present study, the chloroplast (cp) genome of <i>P. hirtellum</i> is reported for the first time, and its phylogenetic relationships are also investigated. The findings revealed that the cp genome was 155,697 bp and exhibited a typical quadripartite structure, consisting of a large single copy (84,468 bp), a small single copy (18,491 bp), and a pair of invert repeat sequences (26,369 bp). The GC content of the cp genomes amounted to 37.7%; 130 genes were identified, consisting of 84 protein-coding genes, 38 transfer RNA genes, and eight ribosomal RNA genes. A phylogenetic analysis based on the cp genome and coding sequence showed that <i>P. hirtellum</i> was a member of section <i>Verticillata</i> and could be distinguished from other species of the genus <i>Polygonatum</i> used in the analysis.

        A Novel Prediction-based Spectrum Allocation Mechanism for Mobile Cognitive Radio Networks

        The spectrum allocation is an attractive issue for mobile cognitive radio (CR) network. However, the time-varying characteristic of the spectrum allocation is not fully investigated. Thus, this paper originally deduces the probabilities of spectrum availability and interference constrain in theory under the mobile environment. Then, we propose a prediction mechanism of the time-varying available spectrum lists and the dynamic interference topologies. By considering the node mobility and primary users` (PUs`) activity, the mechanism is capable of overcoming the static shortcomings of traditional model. Based on the mechanism, two prediction-based spectrum allocation algorithms, prediction greedy algorithm (PGA) and prediction fairness algorithm (PFA), are presented to enhance the spectrum utilization and improve the fairness. Moreover, new utility functions are redefined to measure the effectiveness of different schemes in the mobile CR network. Simulation results show that PGA gets more average effective spectrums than the traditional schemes, when the mean idle time of PUs is high. And PFA could achieve good system fairness performance, especially when the speeds of cognitive nodes are high.

        PFP@PLGA/Cu12Sb4S13-mediated PTT ablates hepatocellular carcinoma by inhibiting the RAS/MAPK/MT-CO1 signaling pathway

        Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most malignant tumors in the world, and patients with HCC face a poor prognosis. The conventional therapeutic strategies for HCC have undergone a challenge-riddled evolution owing to side effects and unsatisfactory efficacy. Here, aiming to provide a new method of HCC elimination, we formulated a novel multifunctional nanocapsule (PFP@PLGA/Cu 12 Sb 4 S 13 , PPCu) with applications in contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging (CEUS) and photothermal therapy (PTT). These PPCu were successfully constructed with an average diameter of 346 nm (polydispersity index, PDI = 0.276). The reinforced contrast ratio of these PPCu was determined by CEUS, revealing their promising applications in image-guided monitoring of HCC treatment. Furthermore, the excellent photoabsorption and biocompatibility indicated by organ H&E staining indicated that PPCu meet quality expectations for use as photothermal transduction agent (PTA). PPCu treatment at 50 °C and higher temperatures efficiently repressed the proliferation, induced the apoptosis and decreased the motility of HCC cells. These effects might have been results of RAS/MAPK/MT-CO1 signaling pathway inhibition. In summary, PPCu were constructed to integrate CEUS and PTT successfully into therapy, which can lead to HCC elimination through RAS/MAPK/MT-CO1 signaling pathway repression.

        Characteristics of long-range transported PM2.5 at a coastal city using the single particle aerosol mass spectrometry

        Air pollution has attracted ever-increasing attention because of its substantial influence on air quality and human health. To better understand the characteristics of long-range transported pollution, the single particle chemical composition and size were investigated by the single particle aerosol mass spectrometry in Fuzhou, China from 17th to 22nd January, 2016. The results showed that the haze was mainly caused by the transport of cold air mass under higher wind speed (10 m·s<SUP>-1</SUP>) from the Yangtze River Delta region to Fuzhou. The number concentration elevated from 1,000 to 4,500 #·h<SUP>-1</SUP>, and the composition of mobile source and secondary aerosol increased from 24.3% to 30.9% and from 16.0% to 22.5%, respectively. Then, the haze was eliminated by the clean air mass from the sea as indicated by a sharp decrease of particle number concentration from 4,500 to 1,000 #·h<SUP>-1</SUP>. The composition of secondary aerosol and mobile sources decreased from 29.3% to 23.5% and from 30.9% to 23.1%, respectively. The particles with the size ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 ㎛ were mainly in the accumulation mode. The stationary source, mobile source, and secondary aerosol contributed to over 70% of the potential sources. These results will help to understand the physical and chemical characteristics of long- range transported pollutants.
