<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Objective</B></P> <P>Remodeling of alveolar bone is controlled by osteoclast-mediated bone resorption and osteoblast-induced bone formation. LPS of <I>Porphyromonas gingivalis</I>, a major causative agent of periodontitis, produces proinflammatory cytokines in host immune cells, which thereby triggers osteoclastogenesis and leads to alveolar bone resorption. We investigated the anti-periodontitis potential of <I>Platycarya strobilacea</I> leaf extract (PLE), which is used as a traditional medicine in Asian countries.</P> <P><B>Design</B></P> <P>TNF-α levels in cell culture media were measured using a commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. Osteoclast differentiation was observed by tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase staining, and the expression levels of osteoclastogenic genes were measured by quantitative real-time PCR. Bone-resorbing activity was confirmed by the resorption pit formation, gelatin zymographic, and the cathepsin K activity assays. Osteogenic differentiation was confirmed with an ALP activity assay and alizarin red S staining.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>PLE treatment inhibited the production of TNF-α in <I>P. gingivalis</I> LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages. In bone marrow-derived macrophages serving as osteoclast precursors, PLE treatment blocked RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis and gene expression levels of the osteoclastogenic transcription factor NFATc1, DC-STAMP for osteoclast fusion, and cathepsin K for osteoclast activity. In addition, PLE treatment reduced the formation of resorption pits and the secretion of MMP 9 and cathepsin K from the differentiated osteoclasts. Furthermore, PLE treatment induced osteogenesis by increasing ALP activity and calcium content in preosteoblastic cells.</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>PLE inhibits <I>P. gingivalis</I> LPS-induced TNF-α production and bone resorption and induces bone formation. 듀티사이클 무선센서네트워크에서 저전력과 저지연을 위한 다중경로 라우팅 프로토콜의 설계

본 논문은 듀티사이클 기반의 무선센서네트워크에서 에너지 효율성을 높이고 시간 지연을 줄일 수 있는 경로설정을 위해 새로운 라우팅 메트릭을 고안하고 이를 활용한 라우팅 프로토콜을 제안한다. 듀티사이클을 고려한 새로운 라우팅 메트릭인 EDW 메트릭을 사용함으로써 에너지 효율적이며 저지연의 경로를 설정할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 새로운 라우팅 메트릭을 적용하는 크로스레이어 기반의 다중경로 라우팅 프로토콜을 제안하고 실험을 통해 낮은 전송 지연시간과 적은 에너지소비를 확인하였다. This paper presents the design of a routing metric for energy-efficient and low-delay path selection and a new routing protocol utilizing the metric in duty-cycyled wireless sensor networks. The new routing metric based on duty cycle, EDW, can reduce the energy and delay of transmission paths, which represents total waiting time from source to destination due to duty cycle. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new multipath routing protocol based on cross-layer information utilizing the new routing metric, and simulation results show that the proposed protocol shows better performance of end-to-end delay and energy consumption.

This paper presents the interference effect of two intersecting waves on a surface acoustic wave(SAW) gyroscope. A device for the investigation on the interference effect was designed. It consists of a couple of interdigital transducers (IDTs) to transmit and receive a Rayleigh wave and another perpendicular IDT to transmit an interfering shear-horizontal wave. Two kinds of IDT smiuctures such as the bidirectional IDT and split IDT are adopted and tested. The devices were fabricated on 128° LiNbO₃ sunsmitte. The frequency response characteristic obtained with a network analyzer shows that the split IDT has a lower insertion loss than the bidrectional IDT. The frequency response is shifted by 148㎑ to 0 dBm(1㎽) of the interfering input power due to the interference effect.

<P>We study the opto-electrical properties of Natronomonas pharaonis sensory rhodopsin II (NpSRII) by using a near-field microwave microprobe (NFMM) under external light illumination. To investigate the possibility of application of NFMM to biological macromolecules, we used time dependent properties of NPSRII before/after light activation which has three distinct states - ground-state, M-state, and O-state. The diagnostic ability of NFMM is demonstrated by measuring the microwave reflection coefficient (S(11)) spectrum of NpSRII under steady-state illumination in the wavelength range of 350-650 nm. Moreover, we present microwave reflection coefficient S(11) spectra in the same wavelength range for two fast-photocycling rhodopsins: green light-absorbing proteorhodopsin (GPR) and Gloeobacter rhodopsin (GR). In addition the frequency sweep shift can be detected completely even for tiny amounts of sample (10(-3) OD of rhodopsin). Based on these results NFMM shows both very high sensitivity for detecting conformational changes and produces a good time-resolved spectrum.</P>
