Ensuring reliability of a machinery system involve the prediction of remaining useful life (RUL). In most RUL prediction approaches, noise is always considered for removal. Nevertheless, noise could be properly utilized to enhance the prediction capabilities. In this paper, we proposed a novel RUL prediction approach based on noise injection and a Kalman filter ensemble of modified bagging predictors. Firstly, we proposed a new method to insert Gaussian noises into both observation and feature spaces of an original training dataset, named GN-DAFC. Secondly, we developed a modified bagging method based on Kalman filter averaging, named KBAG. Then, we developed a new ensemble method which is a Kalman filter ensemble of KBAGs, named DKBAG. Finally, we proposed a novel RUL prediction approach GN-DAFC-DKBAG in which the optimal noise-injected training dataset was determined by a GN-DAFC-based searching strategy and then inputted to a DKBAG model. Our approach is validated on the NASA C-MAPSS dataset of aero-engines. Experimental results show that our approach achieves significantly better performance than a traditional Kalman filter ensemble of single learning models (KESLM) and the original DKBAG approaches. We also found that the optimal noise-injected data could improve the prediction performance of both KESLM and DKBAG. We further compare our approach with two advanced ensemble approaches, and the results indicate that the former also has better performance than the latters. Thus, our approach of combining optimal noise injection and DKBAG provides an effective solution for RUL estimation of machinery systems.

Background: The aim of this study was to elucidate the antiviral efficacy and safety of telbivudine in Korean treatment-naive chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients. Methods: A total of 143 treatment-naive patients who had been treated with telbivudine for at least 6 months were consecutively enrolled. We determined the cumulative rates of virologic response (<12 IU/ml by PCR assay), serologic response, biochemical response and monitored any side effects. Results: The median age and follow-up duration were 50.7 years and 16.4 (range 6-24 months) months, respectively. Sixty seven patients (46.9%) were positive for HBeAg and the median serum HBV DNA level was 7.23 (range 4.31-8.26) log IU/ml. In HBeAg positive group, the cumulative probabilities of HBV DNA undetectability were 14.9% , 24.6%, 34.4% and 26.3% at 6, 12, 18 and 24 months, respectively. Partial virologic response at 6 months occurred in 82.1% of patients and inadequate virologic response at 6 months in 3.0%. During the follow-up period, 8 patients achieved HBeAg loss and 3 patients achieved HBeAg seroconversion. Meanwhile, in HBeAg-negative group, the cumulative rates of virologic response were 64.5%, 86.4%, 82.1% and 81.3%, respectively and the cumulative rates of biochemical response were 89.5%, 98.3%, 100% and 100%, respectively. Among the all patients, there were 42 cases of virologic breakthrough and 21 cases of genotypic resistance and virologic breakthrough. There were 46 (32.2%) cases of CK elevation and 2 (1.4%) cases of myopathy. However, there was no clinically significant safety issue. Conclusions: In Korean treatment-naive HBeAg-negative CHB patients, telbivudine therapy induced favorable virologic, serologic and biochemical responses.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of yeast extract (YE) and salicylic acid (SA) on the expression of curcuminoid-biosynthesis genes (CzDCS and CURS1-3), and accumulation of curcumin in Curcuma zedoaria cell cultures. The results showed that, in cells treated with YE or SA, the expression levels of curcuminoid genes were 1.14- to 3.64-fold higher than the control (untreated cells), in which the YE exhibited a stronger effect in comparison with SA. Curcumin accumulation also tended to be similar to gene expression, curcumin contents in YE- or SA-treated cells were 1.61- to 2.53-fold higher than the control. The SA treatment at the fifth day of culture stimulated the curcumin accumulation and expression in all four genes compared to that at the beginning. While the YE treatments gave different results, the CzCURS1 and CzCURS3 genes were expressed strongly in cells that were treated at the beginning. However, the CzDCS and CzCURS2 genes showed the opposite expression pattern, they were activated strongly in the treatments at day five of the culture. However, the content of curcumin reached its maximum value on the fifth day of culture in all investigations.

<P>Indium tin zinc oxide (ITZO)-based thin-film transistors (TFTs) were fabricated by dc magnetron sputtering in Ar + O2 reactive gas, at room temperature. We present the effect of post-deposition annealing of ITZO thin films on the oxygen vacancies and on the characteristics of TFT devices. When the annealing temperature was increased from room temperature to 350 °C, the resistivity of ITZO film increased from 2.05 × 101 to 2.60 × 103 Ω cm and the interface trap density (<I>N</I>t) of the TFTs reduced from 3.18 × 1013 to 4.83 × 1011 cm−2. The TFT with the ITZO film which was annealed at 350 °C showed a very small shift in turn-on voltage, even after applying positive bias stress of +12 V for 104 s. The current–voltage characteristics of 350 °C annealing temperature sample indicated that these TFTs were in an enhanced mode of transistor operation with a high on-to-off current ratio of ∼1.26 × 106, high field-effect mobility of 14.17 cm2 V−1 s−1, and low subthreshold slope of 1.23 V/dec. The trapping time reduced from 3720 to 1546 s as the annealing temperature increased from room temperature to 350 °C. These results suggest that thermal annealing played an important role in reducing defects as well as improvement in stability of the TFTs.</P>

The controlled synthesis of mesoporous silica and metal oxide nanocomposites with a highly ordered porous structure and large specific surface area for specific applications has been an attractive topic in the field of porous materials. Herein, we introduce a novel method for the fabrication of highly ordered mesoporous structured and large specific surface area Fe2O3/SiO2 nanocomposites, and consider their application in room temperature gas sensors. The mesoporous Fe2O3/SiO2 nanocomposites were synthesised by a two-step method, which combines the hydrothermal growth of Fe2O3 nanoparticles and the microemulsion phase of Brij 56 (C16EO10) surfactant as templates in instantly direct-templating synthesis. This synthesis method enables the fabrication of mesoporous Fe2O3/SiO2 nanocomposites without distortion of the ordered porous structure after calcination at high temperature. The synthesised materials were found to be efficient in a room temperature VOC sensor application, with good recovery.

In this work, we study the magnetic properties of a CoFe/NiFe/PZT heterostructured nanocompositethat is affected by the strain in the PZT substrate when a voltage in the range from –250to 250 V is applied. An interesting electric-voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy, with a relativeincrease in magnetization up to above 100%, is observed. This brings a new challenge to operate alow-power-consuming spin electronic device. We also utilize a theoretical model based on interfacecharge-mediated and strain-mediated magnetic-electric coupling to understand the change in themagnetic properties of the investigated material.

Aims: HBeAg seroconversion remains an important endpoint for antiviral therapy. We previously reported on HBeAg loss following 48 weeks of oral antiviral therapy in the ongoing phase 3 study described below. Here we present an updated evaluation of factors associated with HBeAg loss with/without anti-HBe seroconversion following 3 years of antiviral therapy. Methods: The study included adults with HBeAg-positive CHB enrolled in a Phase 3 trial(Study GS-US-320-0110) comparing TAF 25mg QD vs. TDF 300mg QD. At Week144, 340(39%; TAF 226; TDF 114) patients had received 1year of open label TAF 25mg QD after switching from double blind(DB) treatment. The associations between HBeAg loss at Week144 with host, viral, and treatment-related factors, including on-treatment virologic suppression, were determined using logistic regression analyses. Results: Among 873 ipatients, the median age was 36yrs, 82% were Asian, and median baseline (BL) ALT and HBV DNA were 85U/L (IQR 60-138) and 7.9 log10IU/mL (IQR 6.9- 8.6), respectively. At Week144, a total of 194patients (22%) experienced HBeAg loss and 142 patients (16%) underwent HBeAg seroconversion (Figure 1). Compared with subjects with persistent HBeAg-positivity, those with HBeAg loss were older (median age, 35 vs. 40yrs), were infected with non-genotype D HBV (75% vs 86%), had lower median HBsAg levels (4.3 vs 3.8 log10 IU/mL), a higher median BL ALT (83 vs. 101U/L), a higher prevalence of presumed cirrhosis (Fibro Test ≥0.75:6.4% vs. 13.2%), and lower median BL serum HBV DNA (8.1 vs. 7.7 log10 IU/mL) (all P≤0.005). In multivariate analysis, baseline HBV DNA<8 log10 was an independent predictor of both HBeAg loss(OR: 1.816 [1.174-2.808]; P=0.007) and seroconversion (OR: 2.512 [1.684-3.746]; P<0.001); treatment with TAF in the DB period was a predictor of seroconversion (OR:1.596 [1.044-2.439]; P=0.031) but not loss. Conclusions: Following 144 weeks of treatment, HBeAg loss/ seroconversion rates remains low in subjects treated with TAF or TDF with lower baseline HBV DNA levels associated with higher rates of response.
