Shear Capacity Contribution of Steel Fiber Reinforced High-Strength Concrete Compared with and without Stirrup

        Tian-Feng Yuan,Doo-Yeol Yoo,Jun-Mo Yang,Young-Soo Yoon 한국콘크리트학회 2020 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.14 No.3

This study presents the shear capacity of eco-friendly high-strength concrete (HSC) beams reinforced by 0.75% (by volume) of hooked steel fibers or shear stirrups with various spacings. Five large-scale HSC beams with steel fibers or stirrups were tested and investigated with respect to shear capacity, failure mode, and crack patterns. The test results indicate that all five tested beams finally failed by a shear-critical failure mode and that the use of 0.75 vol% of steel fibers significantly improved the shear strength although it decreased the diagonal crack angle of HSC beam in the case of without stirrups. There are some different properties compared with ACI 318-19 recommendation, but the use of 0.75 vol% steel fibers exhibited approximately 13.2% higher shear strength when compared with that of minimum shear reinforcement for the HSC beam. Furthermore, the shear capacity of steel fibers calculated by experimental data, and it was compared with several prediction equations. The prediction models containing fiber factor were more closely agreeable with test results with a minimum of 10.9% difference.

      • Virtual Non-Contrast Computer Tomography (CT) with Spectral CT as an Alternative to Conventional Unenhanced CT in the Assessment of Gastric Cancer

        Tian, Shi-Feng,Liu, Ai-Lian,Wang, He-Qing,Liu, Jing-Hong,Sun, Mei-Yu,Liu, Yi-Jun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.6

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate computed tomography (CT) virtual non-contrast (VNC) spectral imaging for gastric carcinoma. Materials and Methods: Fifty-two patients with histologically proven gastric carcinomas underwent gemstone spectral imaging (GSI) including non-contrast and contrast-enhanced hepatic arterial, portal venous, and equilibrium phase acquisitions prior to surgery. VNC arterial phase (VNCa), VNC venous phase (VNCv), and VNC equilibrium phase (VNCe) images were obtained by subtracting iodine from iodine/water images. Images were analyzed with respect to image quality, gastric carcinoma-intragastric water contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), gastric carcinoma-perigastric fat CNR, serosal invasion, and enlarged lymph nodes around the lesions. Results: Carcinoma-water CNR values were significantly higher in VNCa, VNCv, and VNCe images than in normal CT images (2.72, 2.60, 2.61, respectively, vs 2.35, $p{\leq}0.008$). Carcinoma-perigastric fat CNR values were significantly lower in VNCa, VNCv, and VNCe images than in normal CT images (7.63, 7.49, 7.32, respectively, vs 8.48, p< 0.001). There were no significant differences of carcinoma-water CNR and carcinoma-perigastric fat CNR among VNCa, VNCv, and VNCe images. There was no difference in the determination of invasion or enlarged lymph nodes between normal CT and VNCa images. Conclusions: VNC arterial phase images may be a surrogate for conventional non-contrast CT images in gastric carcinoma evaluation.

Coordinated Control Strategies with and without Circulating Current in Unified Power Quality

Feng, Xing-tian,Zhang, Zhi-hua The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2015 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.15 No.5

Under traditional unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) control, a UPQC series converter (SC) is mainly used to handle grid-side power quality problems while its parallel converter (PC) is mainly used to handle load-side power quality problems. The SC and PC are relatively independent. The SC is usually in standby mode and it only runs when the grid voltage abruptly changes. In this paper, novel UPQC coordinated control strategies are proposed which use the SC to share the reactive power compensation function of the PC especially without grid-side power quality problems. However, in some cases, there will be a circulating current between the SC and the PC, which will probably influence the compensation fashion, the compensation capacity, or the normal work of the UPQC. Through an active power circulation analysis, strategies with and without a circulating current are presented which fuses the reactive power allocation strategy of the SC and the PC, the composite control strategy of the SC and the compensation strategy of the DC storage unit. Both of the strategies effectively solve the SC long term idle problem, limit the influence of the circulating current, optimize all of the UPQC units and reduce the production cost. An analysis, along with simulation andexperimental results, is presented to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed control strategies.

      • OK-432 Suppresses Proliferation and Metastasis by Tumor Associated Macrophages in Bladder Cancer

        Tian, Yuan-Feng,Tang, Kun,Guan, Wei,Yang, Tao,Xu, Hua,Zhuang, Qian-Yuan,Ye, Zhang-Qun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.11

OK-432, a Streptococcus-derived anticancer immunotherapeutic agent, has been applied in clinic for many years and achieved great progress in various cancers. In the present study, we investigated its anticancer effect on bladder cancer through tumor associated macrophages (TAMs). MTS assay validated OK-432 could inhibit proliferation in both T24 and EJ bladder cell lines. OK-432 also induced apoptosis of bladder cancer cells in vitro. Consequently, we demonstrated that OK-432 could suppress the bladder cancer cells migration and invasion by altering the EMT-related factors. Furthermore, using SD rat model, we revealed that OK-432 inhibited tumor growth, suppressed PCNA expression and inhibited metastasis in vivo. Taken together, these findings strongly suggest that OK-432 inhibits cell proliferation and metastasis through inducing macrophages to secret cytokines in bladder cancer.

Feng Tian,Haotian Wu 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.8 No.6

In the validation process of power supply subsystem of aviation electro-mechanical system, connecting the power supply equipment directly can lead to accidents caused by current overload or voltage overload. In order to prevent such accidents, this paper designed a kind of emulational power supply subsystem exciter based on virtual instrument technology. The design scheme uses AC and DC programmable power supplies and PXI series analog output devices which produced by National Instrument as power sources and analog signal sources representing lubricating oil temperature, oil surplus and so on. It uses PXI data acquisition devices as signal collectors. It accomplishes the data transmission between the hardware system and the principal computer software programmed by LabVIEW through PXI-8375 optical fiber communication interface devices. The software achieves functions of the real-time acquisition and the display of signals such as the power supply, the oil temperature, the oil surplus, the alarm and so on. The test shows that the system has good stability, high reliability in data transmission and strong versatility. This system has realized functions of data collection, storage and playback of the power supply, alarm signals and so on.

Assessment of Steel Slag and Steel Fiber to Control Electromagnetic Shielding in High-Strength Concrete

        Tian-Feng Yuan,Jin-Seok Choi,Seong-Kyum Kim,Young-Soo Yoon 대한토목학회 2021 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.25 No.3

This study investigates the influence of steel slag (SS) and steel fibers on the electrical resistivity and electromagnetic (EM) shielding effectiveness of high-strength concrete (HSC). It was found that the electrical resistivity of mixtures were mainly influenced by free water. Thus, the EM shielding effectiveness was evaluated without the effect of free water. HSC with 20% replacement ratio of SS exhibited slightly improved EM shielding, lower electrical resistivity, and reduced strength (compressive and flexural) compared to HSC without SS. However, HSC with steel fibers exhibited significantly improved EM shielding, lower electrical resistivity, and higher strength and toughness compared to HSC without steel fibers. An increase in the steel fiber content in the HSC significantly decreased the electrical resistivity and increased the shielding effectiveness, strength, and toughness. Regardless of the fiber content in the fiber volume fraction of mixture, the shielding effectiveness is similar for cases with and without SS whose electrical resistivity values differ only slightly. This proves that the EM shielding effectiveness was mainly affected by the electrical resistivity and these properties are significantly correlated when the electrical resistivity values differ noticeably. HSC reinforced with rebar with 50 mm spacing exhibited a 23.5 − 75.6% increase in the shielding effectiveness in the 600 − 1,000 MHz frequency region compared to pristine HSC.
