Sweet Dream Liquid Chinese Medicine Ameliorates Learning and Memory Deficit in a Rat Model of Paradoxical Sleep Deprivation through the ERK/CREB Signaling Pathway

        Xinyun Su,Chunhua Wang,Xiuhua Wang,Fang Han,Changjun Lv,Xiuli Zhang 한국식품영양과학회 2016 Journal of medicinal food Vol.19 No.5

Sweet dream oral liquid (SDOL), a traditional Chinese herbal compound contains 17 traditional Chinese medicines. It has various pharmacological effects, such as improving brain dysfunction and increasing sleeping quality. This study investigated the neuroprotective effect and the underlying mechanisms of SDOL-impaired hippocampus learning and memory-induced paradoxical sleep deprivation (PSD) in rats. Sixty Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into six groups. Before PSD, SDOL treatment group rats were intragastrically administered SDOL for 25 days at dose of 2.1, 4.2, and 8.4mL/kg body weight per day. Normal control group, large platform control group, and PSD groups were treated with normal saline instead of SDOL. After 25 days treatment, PSD and SDOL groups were deprived of paradoxical sleep for 72 h. Then two behavioral studies were conducted to test the spatial learning and memory ability using the open field test and Morris water maze test. Expression of the c-fos, c-jun, cyclic AMP response element binding protein (CREB), extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase (ERK), mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK)/ERK kinase (MEK), and p-CREB, p-ERK, and p-MEK in the hippocampus were also assayed by western blot. In this study, PSD decreased the levels of p-CREB, p-ERK, p-MEK, c-fos, and c-jun. However, SDOL treatment increased expressions of these proteins. Our results showed that SDOL improved 72-h PSD-induced cognitive impairment. These affects may be mediated by increasing the contents of c-fos, c-jun, and p-CREB/ERK signaling.

      • Tillage and Overseeding Pasture for Winter Forages Production in Lowland Areas of South-west China

        Zhang Wenjun,Yang Chunhua,Zhang Xinquan,Cheng Lingzhi,Su Shiming 한국초지조사료학회 2009 한국초지조사료학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2009 No.08

In lowland areas of south-west China, especially in late winter and early spring, animal nutrition is so poor t㏊t some animals die because of shortages of forage. Farmers in these areas are finding it difficult to conserve sufficient forage. It is a big challenge to find a new strategy to solve the problem, so tillage systems and overseeding of a perennial pasture can influence the performance of winter annual forage production in the future.

      • MILLIMETER OBSERVATIONS OF THE TRANSITION DISK AROUND HD 135344B (SAO 206462)

        Lyo, A-Ran,Ohashi, Nagayoshi,Qi, Chunhua,Wilner, David J.,Su, Yu-Nung American Institute of Physics 2011 The Astronomical journal Vol.142 No.5

<P>We present ~1'' resolution 1.3 mm dust continuum and spectral line (12CO and 13CO J = 2-1) observations of the transitional disk system HD 135344B obtained with the Submillimeter Array. The disk shows a Keplerian rotation pattern with an inclination of ~11°, based on the spatially and spectrally resolved 12CO and 13CO emission. The data show clear evidence for both dust and gas surface density reductions in the inner region of the disk (radius <img entity='lsim' SRC='http://ej.iop.org/icons/Entities/lsim.gif' ALT='lsim' ALIGN='BASELINE' /> 50 AU) from the continuum and 13CO J = 2-1 data, respectively. The presence of this inner cavity in both the dust and gas is more consistent with clearing by giant planet formation than by photoevaporation or by grain growth. There is also an indication of global CO gas depletion in the disk, as the mass estimated from 13CO emission (~3.8 × 10–4 M☉) is about two orders of magnitude lower than that derived from the 1.3 mm continuum (~2.8 × 10–2 M☉).</P>

New Analysis of Reduced-Version of Piccolo in the Single-Key Scenario

( Ya Liu ),( Liang Cheng ),( Fengyu Zhao ),( Chunhua Su ),( Zhiqiang Liu ),( Wei Li ),( Dawu Gu ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2019 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.13 No.9

The lightweight block cipher Piccolo adopts Generalized Feistel Network structure with 64 bits of block size. Its key supports 80 bits or 128 bits, expressed by Piccolo-80 or Piccolo-128, respectively. In this paper, we exploit the security of reduced version of Piccolo from the first round with the pre-whitening layer, which shows the vulnerability of original Piccolo. As a matter of fact, we first study some linear relations among the round subkeys and the properties of linear layer. Based on them, we evaluate the security of Piccolo-80/128 against the meet-in-the-middle attack. Finally, we attack 13 rounds of Piccolo-80 by applying a 5-round distinguisher, which requires 244 chosen plaintexts, 267.39 encryptions and 264.91 blocks, respectively. Moreover, we also attack 17 rounds of Piccolo-128 by using a 7-round distinguisher, which requires 244 chosen plaintexts, 2126 encryptions and 2125.49 blocks, respectively. Compared with the previous cryptanalytic results, our results are the currently best ones if considering Piccolo from the first round with the pre-whitening layer.

Juvenile hormone regulation on the flight capability of Bactrocera dorsalis (Diptera: Tephritidae)

        Chen Peng,Chen Min,Ye Hui,Yuan Ruiling,Du Chunhua,Ong Su Ping 한국응용곤충학회 2020 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.23 No.4

The oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae), is considered a major economic threat in many regions worldwide. In order to better understand the flight capacity of B. dorsalis and its physiological basis, the functions and regulatory roles of juvenile hormone (JH) in the flight muscle of B. dorsalis were studied under a controlled environment. JH titer of B. dorsalis varied with age and sex. Females have higher JH titers and better flight capabilities than males, given that the increase in JH also corresponded to the ovarian development and maturation in females. The flight duration and distance of both males and females increased with the gradual increase of JH titer after adult emergences. Both JH titer and flight capability peaked in 15-d-old adult and declined subsequently with age. Flight activity stimulated the production of JH as adults flown for 24 h on the flight mills have the highest JH titers compare to adults flown on shorter flight durations. Adults treated with 0.5 µg and 5 µg of JH III were able to fly long durations and long distances, nevertheless when JH titer was too low or too high, it would restrict the flight ability of the fly. The mutual reinforcement of JH and flight activity provides fundamental understanding on the physiological aspects of the flight capability and dispersal, which facilitates strategies for the long-term control of this destructive pest.

Validation of the Thyrotoxicosis-associated Insomnia Model Induced by Thyroxine through Sympathetic Stimulation: Face, Construct and Predictive Perspectives

        Zhifu Ai,Hongwei He,Tingting Wang,Liling Chen,Chunhua Huang,Changlian Chen,Pengfei Xu,Genhua Zhu,Ming Yang,Yonggui Song,Dan Su 한국뇌신경과학회 2021 Experimental Neurobiology Vol.30 No.6

Insomnia has become a common central nervous system disease. At present, the pathogenesis of insomnia is not clear. Animal models can help us understand the pathogenesis of the disease and can be used in transformational medicine. Therefore, it is very necessary to establish an appropriate model of insomnia. Clinical data show that insomnia patients with high levels of thyroxine and often accompanied by cardiovascular problems, a common mechanism underlying all of these physiological disruptions is the sympathetic nervous system. Combined with the characteristics of chronic onset of clinical insomnia, an insomnia model induced by long-term intraperitoneal injection of thyroid hormone has been created in our laboratory. In this paper, the insomnia-like state of the model was evaluated based on three validity criteria. Face validity has been demonstrated in metabolism, the Morris water maze, electrocardiogram (ECG) and electroencephalogram (EEG). Structure validity has been proved by the results of targeted metabolomics. After treatment with diazepam, a commonly used clinical anti-insomnia drug, the above physiological and pathological disorders were reversed. The results of comprehensive analysis show that the established thyrotoxicosis-associated insomnia model meets the validity requirement to establish an appropriate animal model of insomnia. The model presented in this article might help to study pathogenetic mechanisms of clinical insomnia, as well as to test promising methods of insomnia treatment.
