The Role of Christian Education in Exploring Worldview Implications of the Emerging Media Technology
Benson K. Kamary 한국기독교교육정보학회 2014 Journal of Christian education information tech Vol.0 No.25
The present postmodern cultures have embraced emerging media technology with a greater focus on the expansion of social economic spheres, largely from a modern capitalistic worldview. The Internet in particular has stimulated media production and consumption to be plentiful, speedy and innovative. In the educational context, emerging media technology has often been regarded based on three main presumptions: it is an opportunity for instructive advancement, it is a separate cultural reality, or it is ignored altogether as non-consequential vis-a-vis teaching and learning processes. Indeed, the impact of interactive media technology on shaping how one sees and interacts with the world cannot be overlooked. Nonetheless, proper attention has not yet been given to media technology in the field of Christian education. This paper draws the readers` attention to the emerging role of media technology in forming and shaping worldviews from the perspective of Christian education.
Francis Schaeffer`s Epistemology as a Foundational Component for Edutainment
( Benson Kamary ) 한국개혁신학회 2016 한국개혁신학 Vol.49 No.-
An integration of education and entertainment, also referred to as edutainment, has become pervasive due to the advancement of Information and Communication Technology in the 21st century. Many parents and educators who embrace this technology-mediated teaching and learning technique hold an assumption that instructional media is simply a knowledge-transmitting tool rather than reflecting certain worldview commitments that can potentially shape how learners see the world, interpret the world and live in the world. From the supposition that technology, education and entertainment are not neutral in terms of worldview, this article examines Francis Schaeffer`s epistemological standpoint that knowledge fundamentally emanates from God and its relevance to edutainment. Schaeffer`s God-centered epistemology offers Christians a vital framework for understanding, critiquing and responding to edutainment and its transformative capacity on users.
The Necessity for Cultural Sensitivity in Cross-cultural Ministries in Busan, Korea
Benson Kamary 기독교학문연구회 2015 신앙과 학문 Vol.20 No.2
In the age of globalization, Korea has continued to open its door to people from diverse cultures. For the Korean church, the opportunities for cross-cultural ministries continue to emerge and the necessity to evangelize and edify such congregations into faith maturity has become an important agenda. Even though Korea has been culturally homogeneous, small to middle size cross-cultural ministries are cropping up particularly in large cities where cultural diversity is in the increase. With the growing number of foreigners studying, working or married in Korea, the potential for more cross-cultural ministries remains huge. Consequently, due to cultural differences, cross-cultural ministries or otherwise referred to as international ministries experience culture related challenges. This paper surveys the nature of cross-cultural ministries in Busan (Korea’s second biggest city) and the necessity for cultural competence as a significant element in effective cross-cultural ministries.
