Background/Aims: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is recognized to have variable clinical manifestations. The clinical presentation of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) having COVID-19 is unclear. Methods: We identified articles reporting about the clinical presentation of COVID-19 in those with underlying IBD from PubMed and Embase. The studies, irrespective of design or language, were included. The overall pooled frequency of various symptoms was estimated. Joanna Briggs Institute Critical appraisal checklist was used to assess the quality of studies. Results: Eleven studies, including 1,325 patients, were included in the pooled analysis. The pooled estimates for clinical presentation were; fever: 67.53% (95% confidence interval [CI], 45.38-83.88), cough: 59.58% (95% CI, 45.01-72.63), diarrhea: 27.26% (95% CI, 19.51-36.69), running nose: 27% (95% CI, 15.26-43.19) and dyspnea: 25.29% (95% CI, 18.52-33.52). The pooled prevalence rates for abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting were 13.08% (95% CI, 9.24-18.19), 10.08% (95% CI, 5.84-16.85) and 8.80% (95% CI, 4.43-16.70) per 100 population, respectively. Conclusions: The clinical presentation of COVID-19 in IBD patients is similar to the general population. (Intest Res 2022;20:134-143)
Diagnostic Role of Survivin in Urinary Bladder Cancer

Background: Early diagnosis of carcinoma of bladder remains a challenge. Survivin, a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) protein family, is frequently activated in bladder carcinoma. The objective of this study was to investigate urinary survivin as a marker for diagnosis of urinary bladder. Materials and Methods: We examined urinary survivin concentration in 28 healthy individuals, 46 positive controls and 117 cases of histologically proven TCC prior to transurethral resection, using ELISA, and compared values with findings for urinary cytology. Results: Survivin was found to be significantly higher in the cancer group (P<0.05). A cut off value of 17.7 pg/ml was proposed, with an approximate sensitivity of 82.9% and specificity of 81.1% (P<0.0001), whereas urine cytology had a sensitivity of 66.7% and a specificity of 96.0%. Conclusions: Urinary survivin can be used as a non-invasive diagnostic biomarker for TCC bladder, both for primary and recurrent disease.

The present study of the structural and electrical properties of chalcogenide especially un doped, Ag and Cu dopedCd 0.75 Se 0.25 bulk material. Chalcogenide-materials and II-VI group semiconductors have been found as useful materials for application in the huge span of semiconductor’s electronics and optoelectronics. The Electrical properties have been discussed for bulk material. Bulk material formation from Melt-quenching technique is more useful for thin fi lm formation. XRD, Table top Hall Eff ect, Four Probe measurements and SEM results are described in this paper. Through these characterization, optimizing the resistivity, conductivity, type of semiconductor and mobility of the Cd 0.75 Se 0.25 balk material. It has also been found that quantum confi nement is exhibited in this type of semiconductor at nanoscale.

Background/Aims Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is associated with exaggerated cerebral response including emotional processing following visceral stimulation; though data on this issue is available in female IBS patients, it is scanty among males. Hence, we aimed to study brain response of male IBS patients following rectal balloon distension as compared to healthy controls using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Data between diarrhea and constipation predominant IBS (IBS-D and IBS-C) were also compared. Methods Rectal balloon distension threshold was assessed in 20 male IBS patients (10 IBS-C and 10 IBS-D) and 10 age-matched male healthy controls. Subsequently, fMRI on all the participants was performed at their respective rectal pain threshold. The fMRI data were analysed using the Statistical Parametric Mapping software. Results IBS patients showed greater cerebral activations in insula, middle temporal gyrus, and cerebellum in the left hemisphere compared to healthy controls. Neural activation was found in bilateral precuneus/superior parietal lobules in controls but not in patients with IBS. The brain activation differed among IBS-C and IBS-D patients; while the right mid-cingulate cortex was activated in IBS-C, the left inferior orbito-frontal cortex, left calcarine, and bilateral fusiform gyri were activated among patients with IBS-D following rectal balloon distension. Conclusions Brain response to rectal balloon distension differed among male patients with IBS and controls and among patients with IBS-C and IBS-D. Differential activation among patients with IBS-C and IBS-D was seen in the brain regions controlling affective motivation, homeostatic emotions, and autonomic responses to pain. Perovskite solar cells with an MoS<sub>2</sub> electron transport layer

<P>There is an ongoing drive to search for low-temperature processed, stable and efficient electron transport layers (ETLs) for perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, we report, for the first time, the use of a MoS2 thin layer as the ETL for PSCs. MoS2 transparent thin films are directly synthesized on the glass/fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate by using microwave irradiation. The electrical characteristics of the MoS2 thin film are measured and compared with state-of-the-art efficient electron transporting materials like TiO2 and SnO2. The perovskite solar cells fabricated with the device structure, glass/FTO/MoS2/perovskite/po-spiro-OMeTAD/Au, exhibit a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 13.1%, which is close to the PCEs obtained from compact TiO2 and SnO2 ETL based PSCs. Good transparency in the visible region (400-900 nm), high electrical conductivity and better charge transfer properties as well as low-temperature synthesis make the MoS2 thin film useful for energy harvesting and other optoelectronic device applications.</P>

Background and Objectives: Cholesteatomatous chronic otitis media acquires epithelial proliferation and differentiation characteristics, which render it able to erode the underlying bone and cause complications. We attempt to characterize the cholesteatoma epithelium by observing the expression of cytokeratins (such as 34ße12, CK17, and CK13) and Ki67 among patients with cholesteatoma with different aggressiveness as compared to disease-free controls.Subjects and Methods: In this prospective study (2017-2021), we enrolled all consenting consecutive patients with cholesteatomatous chronic otitis media. They were staged in accordance with the staging guidelines of the European Academy of Otology and Neurotology and the Japanese Otological Society. Bony external auditory canal (EAC) skin specimens of the patients undergoing tympanoplasty were chosen as controls. We did an immunohistochemical analysis of the cholesteatoma specimens and normal bony EAC controls by observing the expression of 34ße12, CK17, CK13, and Ki67 across the layers of the epithelium. Fisher’s exact test and chi-square test were used to evaluate any statistical significance between the cases and the controls, and the subgroups were made based on the clinical stage.Results: An increased expression of CK17 (<i>p</i><0.001), CK13 (<i>p</i><0.03), and Ki67 (<i>p</i><0.001) was observed in cholesteatoma specimens when compared to normal bony EAC controls. Also, there was a loss of expression of 34ße12 in a subset of cholesteatoma specimens, all of which showed full-thickness expression of CK13. There was no difference in the expression of cytokeratin among specimens from patients belonging to different subgroups based on clinical stage, age, sex, duration of ear symptoms, or type of hearing loss (conductive vs. sensorineural).Conclusions: The majority of cholesteatoma specimens significantly overexpressed CK17, CK13, and Ki67 when compared to normal bony EAC skin controls, while a subset showed loss of expression of 34ße12, which provides some insight into its pathogenesis.

<P>The controlled synthesis of large-area, atomically thin molybdenum and tungsten ditelluride (MoTe<SUB>2</SUB> and WTe<SUB>2</SUB>) crystals is crucial for their emerging applications based on the attractive electronic properties. However, the solution phase synthesis of high-quality and large-area MoTe<SUB>2</SUB> or WTe<SUB>2</SUB> ultrathin films have not been achieved yet. In this study, we synthesized for the first time, large-area atomically thin MoTe<SUB>2</SUB> and WTe<SUB>2</SUB> films in solution phase, through rapid crystal formation directly on a conducting substrate. For the synthesis, we developed a new Te precursor. The crystal growth involves an in situ chemical transformation from Te nanoparticles into MoTe<SUB>2</SUB> or WTe<SUB>2</SUB> thin films. The synthesis enables precise control of the number of atomic layers over a large area, from a monolayer to multilayers. Micropatterned MoTe<SUB>2</SUB> thin films are also readily synthesized in situ using the same process. The photodetector made of 3-layer semiconducting MoTe<SUB>2</SUB> thin films exhibits high photoresponsivity (<I>R</I><SUB>λ</SUB>) over a broad spectral range (300-1100 nm) with a maximum in the near-IR region, including a <I>R</I><SUB>λ</SUB> = 30 mA W<SUP>-1</SUP> even at λ = 1.10 μm and a fast photoresponse (87 μs). Our synthesis method presents a crucial step in the solution phase synthesis of metal telluride ultrathin films and paves the way for their large-scale emerging applications.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Over the past few decades, self-cleaning surfaces have been significantly investigated due to their commercial applications in various fields. However, the researchers are still lagging in developing better mathematical models and fabricating hydrophobic surfaces for direct espousal in industry. In this study, a force-balanced system-based mathematical model is modified for a rectangular pillared array-based micro-structure and MATLAB simulations were used to validate it theoretically. The same pattern was developed on Al-surface using a single-point diamond turning (SPDT) machine experimentally. The experimental results were validated using coherence correlation interferometry (CCI), optical microscopy, drop shape analyser (DSA), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). The experimentally estimated and theoretically predicted contact angles of the rectangular pillared array are found in close agreement. Further, the advancement in mathematical models and models-based surface manufacturing strategies can boost the research in this domain to develop robust self-cleaning hydrophobic surfaces.

Apart from being used as food, seed oils have also been used traditionally as medicinal products by several communities. However, the full medicinal potential of many seed oil plants is yet to be properly reviewed, particularly for their antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. North-East India has rich resources of seed oil plants. The availability of detailed information on these plants is quite limited. This review aims to explore and evaluate these seed oil plants of the North-East India with particular emphasis on their antimicrobial and antioxidant activities as well as chemical compositions. A comprehensive literature search on seed oil plants of this region has been performed. Seed oil yielding plants of this region can be categorized into two categories: plants that are used traditionally as sources of edible or medicinal oils and plants that are used for purposes other than as sources of oils. Many seed oil plants of this region have been reported to possess antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, and to produce various types of compounds. This review also highlights the importance of these plants in contributing to the local as well as the national economy of India.
