손자녀 양육과정에서 경험하는 외할머니의 심리적 상태에 관한 연구 = A study of the maternal grandmothers psychological state experienced through raising their grandchildren

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 손자녀 양육과정에서 느끼는 외할머니의 심리적 상태가 어떠한지 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 맞벌이 하는 딸과 사위, 그리고 손자녀와 함께 동거하면서 손자녀를 돌보고 있는 외할머니를 대상으로 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과 손자녀를 양육하는 외할머니의 심리적 상태는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 손자녀를 양육하는 외할머니는 딸의 든든한 버팀목이 되고자 손자녀 양육에 참여하며, 손자녀보다 내 딸 위주의 손자녀 양육방식을 택하고 있었다. 그리고 물질적 보상보다는 손자녀 보는 재미만으로 만족하였으며, 양육․집안일 모두 담당하면서 심리적 부담감을 느끼고 있었다. 둘째, 손자녀 양육으로 인한 가족 관계 속에서 외할머니는 손자녀의 양육에서 보람과 허탈감을, 딸과의 관계에서 친밀감과 서운함을, 사위와의 관계에서 당당함과 좁혀지지 않는 거리감을 느끼는 양가적인 심리 특성을 보이고 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 손자녀를 양육하는 외할머니의 심리적 건강의 중요성과 가족 구성원간의 상호 호혜적인 관계 형성의 필요성을 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aimed to take a look at the psychological state of the maternal grandmothers while raising their grandchildren. In order to achieve this goal, we collected the data from interviews of the maternal grandmothers who live in, raise grandchildren and have working daughter and son-in-law. The result shows that first, the maternal grandmother’s psychological state as a caregiver was to provide a reliable support to her daughter and she choses a raising method that was more focused on her daughter rather than on her grandchildren. Also, she was satisfied with the joy of raising her grandchildren, even without materialistic reward. But at the same time, she felt some psychological burden for being responsible for both raising children and doing household chores. Secondly, in the family relationship formed by grandchildren raising, the psychological characteristic felt by the maternal grandmother was two-sided: satisfaction and despondency in grandchildren raising, closeness and hurtfulness with her daughter, confidence and uncloseing distance with her son-in-law. Based on the research findings, we discussed the importance of maternal grandmother’s psychological health, and the need for the mutually beneficial relationship formation between family members.
