초등학생용 진로성숙도 검사도구 개발 = Development of Career Maturity Scale for Elementary Schoolers

In order to implement more effective career education programs according to developmental stages in the field of education, career preparation is required from early ages. In Korea, however, basic research for a career guidance program and education research for elementary school students are still limited. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a career maturity scale for elementary school students and to validate the construct of the scale. The subjects of this study were 1,160 elementary school students of Korean Youth General Survey, aged 9-11 years old. We reviewed the attitude items consisting of the career maturity scale developed by Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training(KRIVET) and chose appropriate career maturity items for elementary school students as a first step. Based upon examination and comments of 10 elementary teachers, inappropriate items for elementary students were revised and deleted. As a result, 7 job planning items, 6 self-understanding items, 5 attitude toward work items, 6 independence items were selected. The selected 24 items were evaluated with a panel of experts to test a content validity of each item. Based on the preliminary test results, 2 independence items were deleted and the final career maturity scale consisting of 22 items for elementary students was confirmed. The validity of the final scale was verified using confirmatory factor analysis. Each subscale had acceptable internal consistency reliability. Both convergent validity and discriminant validity were satisfactory as well.
