휴대전화 중독 청소년들의 특성 및 중독과정 촉진요인 = Characteristics of Youths Addicted to Mobile Phone and Facilitating Factors for Addiction Process

The purpose of this study is to explore the characteristics of youths who are addicted to mobile phone, types of immersion in mobile phone, and factors facilitating immersion. The participants in the study were 14 students(male 6, female 8) who are in their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year of junior high school. Interviews were conducted on 3 different occasions, and an analysis of the interview data was made using the grounded theory approach(Strauss & Corbin, 1990). Based on the results of analysis, 54 concepts, 24 subcategories, and 17 categories have eventually been specified. The results of study have been provided by dividing the important characteristics of youths addicted to mobile phone into relational, emotional, and perceptional sphere, side effects, etc. First, the relational characteristics entail ① Frequently being alone, ② Much desire for relationship, ③ Difficulty with interaction and communication in the family, ④ Too much reliance on friends, ⑤ Difficulty with actual interpersonal relationship, ⑥ Text message has become a popular means of maintaining friendship, and ⑦ It is a stage where relationship with friends and relationship with the opposite gender are becoming important. Second, the emotional characteristics entail ① Loneliness, ② Difficulty dealing with boredom, and monotony, ③ Inability to deal with negative emotion or conflict situation, and ④ Sense of inconvenience and alienation toward rejection. Third, the perceptional characteristics entail ① Perceptional ability regarding problems related to mobile phone decreases as the level of addiction increases, ② Low ability for self perception, and so on. The side effects of mobile phone use include withdrawal symptoms, conflict with others, problems with bill and replacement, etc. Also, this study has looked at the process of mobile phone addiction by examining the stage of immersion in mobile phone, stage of potential addiction to mobile phone, and stage of high risk addiction to mobile phone. Such a results of study have meaning in that they explore detailed characteristics based on the experience of youths addicted to mobile phone and that they provide an in depth discussion of mobile phone addiction by discovering a key difference between internet game addiction and mobile phone addiction.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 휴대전화 중독 청소년들의 특성, 휴대전화 중독과정 및 촉진요인을 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 연구 참여자는 중학교 1∼3학년 학생 14명(남 6명, 여 8명)이였으며, 2009년 9월에서 11월에 3차에 걸친 면담을 실시하였고, 면담자료를 근거이론 접근방법(Strauss & Corbin, 1990)으로 분석하였다. 분석과정을 통해 최종적으로 54개의 개념 24개의 하의범주 17개의 범주가 도출되었다. 연구 결과로 휴대전화 중독 청소년들의 중요한 특성을 관계적, 정서적, 지각 영역에서 특성 및 부작용 등으로 나누어 제시하였다. 첫째, 관계적 특성은 ① 혼자일 때가 많음, ② 높은 관계욕구를 피상적 방식으로 채우기 ③ 가족관계에서 상호작용 및 의사소통의 어려움, ④ 또래에 대한 의존이 심함, ⑤ 실제적 대인관계의 어려움, ⑥ 문자가 친구관계를 유지하는 중요한 수단으로 보편화 되어있음. ⑦ 또래관계와 이성관계가 중요해지는 시기 등이다. 둘째, 정서적인 특성은 ① 외로움, ② 심심하고 지루한 기분을 견디기 힘듦, ③ 부정적인 감정이나 갈등상황을 처리하지 못함, ④ 거절에 대한 불편감과 소외감 등이다. 셋째, 지각 특성은 ① 중독의 정도가 심할수록 휴대전화 관련 문제에 대한 지각능력이 떨어짐, ② 자기(self)에 대한 자각능력이 낮음 등이다. 휴대전화 사용의 부작용으로는 금단증상, 주변과 갈등, 요금 및 교체 문제 등이 포함 되었다. 휴대전화에 중독 과정은 휴대전화 몰두단계, 휴대전화 잠재적 중독단계, 휴대전화 고위험 중독단계로 정리하여 살펴보았다. 이러한 연구결과는 휴대전화 중독 청소년들의 경험을 통해 세부적 특성을 탐색했다는 점과 인터넷 게임중독과 휴대전화 중독의 차이점을 밝혀냄으로써 휴대전화 중독에 대한 심도 있는 논의를 제공했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
