유아 영재 어머니의 양육경험에 대한 내러티브 탐구 = A Narrative Inquiry of the Mother`s Experiences in Raising Gifted Young Children

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study attempted to understand the mother`s experiences of raising gifted young children and find the direction of gifted education for young children in Korea. The narrative inquiry method of Connelly and Clandinin(1995) was used to understand what mothers identify the talented characteristics of their children, and what difficulties they go through in raising gifted young children. The subjects were 7 mothers who have 5-year-old gifted young children in H institution in Busan. H institution educates gifted young children, selected from Wechsler Scales within the range of top 5%. We interviewed in-person for 8 weeks from June 2010 to July 2010. The results of this study were as follows. First, mothers of gifted young children regard the important characteristics of giftedness as creativity. Also, they said that leadership was necessary and important for their children to achieve self-realization. Second, mothers of gifted young children were generally responsive rather than controlling, and they tended to be child-centered. Third, mothers of gifted young children had difficulties in raising their children because of the characteristics of their children, sibling relations, and social expectations. There were comments for the necessity of parent guidance and family therapy to help developmental issues common to gifted children.
