초등학생의 영어 사교육에 대한 인식: 학년과 의사 결정 주체에 따른 비교 = Perceptions of elementary school students towards English private coaching: Comparisons based on school year and decision agent

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study sought to examine elementary school students` perceptions towards English private coaching, focusing on their differences according to grade (fourth, fifth and sixth) and decision agent (by self, by parents, and by friends). To this end, a total of 270 elementary students who were taking part in English private coaching in Busan at the data collection period were asked to respond to a questionnaire with 17 question items. The major findings from chi-square analyses are summarized as follows. First, regardless of school year or decision agent, most respondents think of private coaching as the way to supplement their insufficiency at school, and find useful the level-differentiated education and the opportunity to use English in private coaching. Second, lower graders are more positive about the need for, and the effects of, private coaching. Third, when the decision-maker is the student himself/herself, he or she feels higher need for, and higher satisfaction with, private coaching, and fells more positive about the effects of private coaching. Pedagogical implications are discussed.
