자기수용 연구의 동향과 제언 = Trends and Suggestions in Research on Self-Acceptance

This study aimed to investigate various definitions of self-acceptance, to perceive trends in research on self-acceptance, and to give suggestions for future studies. First, a new and integrative definition of self-acceptance was produced after investigating various definitions of self-acceptance. The scales that have been used to assess self-acceptance were also reviewed. The review showed that the development of self-acceptance was affected by parents` self-acceptance, parenting style, self-understanding, and mindfulness. Many research studies showed that self-acceptance was positively related to the acceptance of others. A self-accepting person reported greater well-being; on the contrary, the lack of self-acceptance was related to the difficulties with emotions including anger and depression. Selfacceptance also had the implications for both counselors and clients. Limitations of this study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
