The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the relationship between Children's perception of parental childrearing attitudes and their self-acceptance.
And this study intended toProve whether the difference of children's perception about their parental child-rearing attitude had an effect on selt-acceptance of the children.
Subjects were total 557 students attending first and second grade in a boys' and girls' regular high school (280 students) and second grade in a boys' and girls' regular middle school in Wanjoo as a rural area and jeonju as a urban area.
They were random sampled
Subjects were tested questionaire of parental child-rearing attitudes written by Ham Jeong sook and self-acceptance seale written by E. L. phillips
Specially, this study sought to answer the following questions;
1. What are the differences in children's perception of parental child-rearing practices and self-acceptance by students' sex, school level, and residential area?
2. What are the relationships between the children's perception of parental child-rearing attitudes and the self-acceptance of the children?
3. To what extent does children's perception of parental child-rearing attitudes have an effect on self-acceptance of the children
4. What are the differences in self-acceptance of the children according to the level of children's perception of parental child-rearing attitudes?
The results of this research can be summarized as follows
1. In the correlation between children's perception of parental child-rearing attitudes-love versus hostility dimension and autonomy versus control dimension, and achievement versus non-achievement dimension and rational versus irrational dimension-and children's self-acceptance, it shows the positive meaningful correlation.
Among them, the children's perception of parental child-rearing attitudes of love versus hostility dimension and rational versus irrational dimension shows higher positive meaningful correlation than any other attitude.
Therefore, if children perceive that parental child-rearing behavior is consistent in discipline and their attitude is affectionate, acceptable and cheering, they have high self-acceptance.
So this self-acceptance is what a person endows himself with his values and it is related to prediction of his success level in doing work.
2. Children who perceived their parental child-rearing attitudes as love, autonomy, achievement and rational dimension were higher self-acceptance than as hostility, control, non-achievement and irrational dimension.
Therefore, parent have to try their behaviors as perceived love, autonomy, achievement and rational by their children.
3. Children are likely to perceive parental child-rearing attitudes differently according to their different background factors such as sex, school levels and residential area.
The urban students show higher scores on the perceptual scale of parental child-rearing attitudes than the rural students In autonomy-control dimensions, high school students rather then middle school students, and in self-acceptance dimensions, boys rather than girls significantly show higher scores on the perceptual scale of parental child-rearing attitudes.
Therefore, parent should try to increase children's self-acceptance from parental child-rearing attitudes such as love, autonomy and rational at the 11th school grade
4. In contrast to parental child-rearing attitudes of autonomy-control dimension, the low correlation between mother's rearing attitude of autonomy-control dimension and self-acceptance of the children demonstrates the importance of the coincidence between children's Perception of their father and mother's child-rearing attitudes for self-growth of the children.
