Futuristic Aspect and Analysis of the Biblical Counseling

This research as a literature study was to clarify the futuristic aspect and analysis of the Biblical counseling. The purpose of this study is to discuss how biblical counseling has developed so far, what challenges it faces externally, what problems it faces internally, and what direction it should go in the future. Biblical counseling was developed by founder Jay E. Adams and operated under the so-called ‘nouthetic counseling,’ later changed its name to ‘biblical counseling’ and became known worldwide as a huge academic body that has amassed numerous sympathizers. Biblical counseling has made significant progress internally, but externally it has received harsh criticism from psychology, psychotherapy, psychiatry, and even Christian counseling. Biblical counseling has gone through the first and second-generations over the past 50 years. David Foulison, a representative of the second-generation of biblical counseling, passed away after raising the following issues about biblical counseling before his death. “Current Biblical counseling has become a situation where one has to discuss what challenges one faces externally, what problems one has internally, and what direction on should move forward.” To address these discussions, this study briefly dealt with the history of generational change in biblical counseling. And this researcher briefly looked at the contents of biblical counseling. In addition, this study, titled ‘The Structure of Biblical Counseling,’ dealt with the biblical hermeneutic basis, the sufficiency of the Bible, and the relationship with sin. Also, in this research, Pawlison's 12 biblical counseling propositions were dealt with as the contents and methods of biblical counseling. Finally, three issues were addressed regarding the direction of biblical counseling in the future. In other words, it concludes by dealing with biblical counseling beyond confrontation and criticism, biblical counseling for cultural expansion, and biblical counseling to accommodate various biblical counseling approaches.

성경적 상담과 설교의 통합 방안: 성경적 상담설교의 구조를 중심으로

본 논문의 목적은 성경적 상담이론이 무엇인가를 명확히 밝히는 것과 성경적 상담 이론을 설교에 적용하는 것 그리고 성경적 상담과 설교의 통합 형태인 성경적 상담설교의 구조를 제안하는 것이다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 성경적 상담의 신학적 기초가 되는 원리가 일곱 가지가 있다; 1. 인간은 하나님의 형상대로 지음 받았다. 2. 인간은 죄로 인하여 타락한 존재이다. 3. 인간의 문제는 마음의 문제이다. 4. 성경적 상담의 도구는 성경이다. 5. 성경적 상담의 모델은 예수 그리스도이시다. 6. 인간은 고통 당하는 존재이다. 7. 인간의 변화는 성령의 역사로 이루어진다. 또한, 성경적 상담의 역동적 과정이 있다; 1. 열 2. 나쁜 열매 3. 나쁜 뿌리 4. 결과 5. 하나님께서 말씀하시는 것 6. 좋은 뿌리 7. 좋은 열매 8. 새로운 결과. 둘째, 성경적 상담설교의 구조는 무엇인가; 1. 상황 속에서 진입구를 발견하라. 2. 마음의 동기를 살피라. 3. 하나님의 말씀을 해석하며 하나님의 성품과 예수 그리스도에 초점을 맞추라 4. 말씀과 성령을 통해 새로워진 마음의 변화를 인식하라. 5. 변화된 마음으로 어떻게 살아야 할 것인가를 계획하라. 성경적 상담설교를 교회 목회현장에 적용하여 건강한 교회를 이루고 하나님나라 확장에 기여하기를 기대한다. The purposes of this study are to find out what the biblical theory of counseling is; to clarify the theory and concepts of biblical counseling as applied to preaching; and to suggest the structure of biblical counseling preaching. The results of analyses are as follows: First, in order to suggest the biblical counseling theory, the theological basis, the seven principles: 1. A human being is created in form of the God; 2. A human being is a degraded existence from committing a sin; 3. A human being`s problem is that of a mind; 4. A main counseling tool is a bible; 5. A model of counseling is Jesus Christ; 6. A human being is a suffering creature; 7. A true transformation of a human being can be done by Holy Spirit`s work. Dynamics of biblical counseling: 1. Heat; 2. Bad Fruit; 3. Bad Root; 4. Reap; 5. Sovereign Speaker; 6. Good Root; 7. Good Fruit; 8. New Reap. Second, how can actual biblical counseling preaching in terms of structure? Donald Capps` sermon is analyzed for a structural analysis of biblical counseling preaching, and a new structure for biblical counseling preaching is suggested as follows: 1. find the entrance amid the circumstances; 2. look for the motives of the heart; 3. interpret biblical passages and shed light on the characteristics of God and Jesus Christ; 4. recognize the changes in heart renewed through the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit; and 5. plan for the future with the renewed heart. Biblical counseling preaching shall be employed in church ministry so as to contribute to the well-rounded treatment of Christians, and to the expansion of God`s kingdom.

제자훈련 사역에서 성경적 상담의 활용: 질적 사례연구

이 논문은 한국 교회의 제자훈련사역에 성경적 상담이 적용될 때 제자훈련 참여자들에게 어떤 긍정적 영향을 주는가를 연구한다. 더 구체적으로 말하면 이 연구는 “제자훈련 참가자들이 성경적 상담을 받은 후 어떤 변화를 경험했는가?”라는 연구 질문을 통해 한 지역교회의 제자훈련사역에 참여하는 구성원이 성경적 상담을 받는 경우 어떤 성장과 변화를 체험하는지를 질적 사례연구 방법으로 고찰한다. 이를 위해 먼저 이 논문은 제자도, 제자훈련 그리고 성경적 상담에 대한 이론적 배경을 설명한 후 성경적 상담을 접목한 한 지역교회의 제자훈련 사역의 사례를 연구한다. 선행연구들은 제자훈련과 성경적 상담이 그 목적과 접근방법의 측면에서 유사함을 지적한다. 상담과정에서 수집된 자료들을 분석한 결과, 제자훈련에 성경적 상담이 접목되었을 때 피상담자들은 문제의 심각성 인식, 신앙과 인터넷 문제의 연관, 그리고 교회의 중요성을 통해 도움을 받아 삶이 변했음을 보여주고 있다. 마지막으로 사례연구의 결과를 바탕으로 제자훈련에의 성경적 상담의 적용을 위하여 ‘실제화, 자료화, 훈련, 활용, 모집, 확장’의 6가지 구체적인 방법을 제안한다. The purpose of this study is to examine what benefits participants in discipleship training receive when experiencing biblical counseling redundant. Specifically, by asking the following research question, “What change did the participants discipleship training experience after receiving biblical counseling?” this study investigates how the participants experience growth and change in biblical counseling. To achieve this goal, the study first reviews precedent literature related to the topics such as discipleship, discipleship training, and biblical counseling, and explains theoretical background to examine a local church’s discipleship ministry and biblical counseling. The literature review found similarity between discipleship training and biblical counseling in their purpose and approach. Among many literature, David Watson’s book “Discipleship” has been a classic that explains the meaning of discipleship. For him, the essence of discipleship is to imitate Jesus and follow his steps in every aspect of one``s life. “Discipleship training” usually refers to a specific ministry of local congregation to train its members in the areas of Bible knowledge, its application, and practices in everyday Christian life. Among various Christian counseling approaches, biblical counseling model resembles the goals and visions of discipleship and discipleship training. But a distinctiveness of biblical counseling can be found in its focus on concrete change in deeper levels in the areas of counseling related issues. Among various traditions of qualitative research methods, the study employed case study method for it investigates complex bounded system like a local congregation. To examine the effectiveness of biblical counseling in the process of a discipleship training, the study first selected a local congregation well known for its discipleship training ministry, and provided four participants in discipleship training process with individual biblical counseling and two ground counseling sessions which lasted for six months. Main data were transcripts from counseling and discipleship training sessions and they were coded through content analysis. The result of the data analysis reveals that the participants were having various issues such as marital relationship problems, depressed feelings, and internet overuse. Among them, the problem of internet overuse was notably shared. Thus, internet overuse problem was mainly addressed in counseling sessions. Data analysis reveals that the participants realized seriousness of the problem, importance of faith for addressing internet problem, and importance of local church through biblical counseling. Initially, the participants assumed that they were using internet a little more than ordinary use and that the use of the internet was necessary for life. However, through counseling intervention that helped closely monitor and analyze daily use of the internet, they realized the seriousness of their problem. Once they could see the reality in their problems, they could find other related issues. For instance, participants could connect the internet overuse with their marital and other related problems. By indulging in internet use, they avoided to face their relational problems and tried to fill the emptiness. The participants also could see their problems in the light of faith and the Bible. More concretely, they could see their struggles as spiritual battle. Finally, the biblical counseling intervention led them to acknowledge and appreciate the positive roles of faith community as a vital resource for spiritual recovery process. Based on this result, the study suggests six ways to apply biblical counseling in discipleship ministry in local church: materializing, actualizing, training, utilizing, recruiting, and expanding. That is to say, discipleship training ministry needs to have materials to provide information and specific content of biblical counseling. Further, it needs to implement the content of biblical counseling as a part of discipleship training program so that discipleship training ministry can touch every aspect of a believer’s life. To do this, educational program such as “counseling school” as well as professional counseling should have collaborative relationship that enhances growth and change.

성경적 변화모델의 발전과 에드워드 웰치의 기여

이 논문의 목적은 기독교상담에서 최근의 성경적 변화모델의 발전에 기여하고 있는 에드워드 웰치(Edward T. Welch.)의 성경적 변화모델을 고찰하는 것이다. 이를 위해 먼저 대표적 성경적 상담의 이론가들인 제이 아담스(Jay E. Adams), 래리 크랩(Larry Crabb) 그리고 데이빗 포울리슨(David A. Powlison)의 변화모델에 나타난 인간이해, 병리, 구체적인 변화방법들을 분석한 후, 이를 바탕으로 웰치가 강조하고 있는 상담관계, 성경적 신학에 기초한 상담문제의 이해, 교회 공동체 안에서의 상담영역의 확대에 대한 분석을 제공한다. 아담스는 인간의 죄를 모든 상담문제의 원인으로 보고 죄악된 삶의 습관을 성경에 부합되는 습관으로 바꾸는 재습관화를 강조하였다. 아담스의 행동의 성경적 변화가 인간의 깊은 동기에 대한 이해가 결여되어 있다고 믿은 크랩은 인간관계에서 경험되는 필요들을 상담문제의 핵심으로 보고 이를 극복하기 위한 성경적 사고와 신념의 변화가 필요함을 지적하였다. 그러나 포울리슨은 크랩의 이론이 심리학적 동기 이론에 영향을 받았음을 지적하며 인간의 마음의 변화를 강조한 성경적 동기이론을 주장하였다. 웰치는 성경적 변화모델에서 포울리슨과 같은 관점을 공유하면서 이를 더 구체적으로 발전시키고 있다. 그는 상담자와 내담자의 상담관계를 강조하며 내담자와 상담문제를 더 깊이 이해하고자 했다. 깊은 상담관계를 통해 상담자는 내담자의 내면세계와 이야기 속에 들어갈 수 있기 때문이다. 상담문제들을 성경적으로 이해하고 상담하기 위해서는 성경의 구약과 신약을 통합하는 관점을 제공해주는 성경신학적 접근이 필요함을 주장하였고, 이는 복잡한 상담문제에 연관된 성경 구절의 적용과 같은 단조롭고 피상적인 접근을 방지할 수 있다고 보았다. 웰치는 복잡한 상담문제를 해결하기 위해서 상담실에서 이루어지는 전문상담뿐만 아니라 신자들이 속한 교회내에서 이루어질 수 있는 돌봄사역의 중요성을 강조하였다. 그는 이를 위해 교회내의 평신도들과 가족들을 격려하며 돌보기 위한 구체적인 방법들을 제시해준다. 마지막으로 이 논문은 웰치의 성경적 변화모델을 기반으로 상담에서 성경적 변화를 추구하는 이들의 구체적인 상담기술과 방법들을 다룬 교재의 제작과 연구의 필요성을 제안한다. The purpose of this study is to examine the contribution of Edward T. Welch on the development of biblical change model in Christian counseling. To do this, the article first analyzes the biblical counseling models of major theorists such as Jay Adams, Larry Crabb, and David Powlison. and then investigate what Welch contributed: emphasis on counseling relationship, the importance of biblical theological understanding on counseling issues, and caring ministries in local congregations. Adams claimed that the goal of biblical change should focus on changing sinful habits into more biblical habits. However, Larry Crabb found that Adams' model lacked motivation theory and emphasized fulfilling the relational needs to bring changes in counselees. Yet, David Powlison criticized Crabb's model was heavily influenced by psychological theories, and claimed that human heart must be changed to solve counseling problems. Edward Welch shares same principles with Powlison in focusing on human heart but further advanced the principles toward the direction of counseling relationship, biblical theological understanding, and the importance of church's caring ministries, For Welch, counseling relationship between counselor and counselees are important because through the deep relationship, counselor can enter and understand inner world of counselees' lives. Though biblical change is based on the use of the Bible in counseling, however, appropriate understanding and application are crucial for effective biblical change, which is possible through biblical understanding of counseling problems. Welch believes that biblical counseling understanding would prevent shallow understanding and application of the Bible on counseling problems. Welch also claims that not only structured counseling sessions but also caring ministry of local churches are crucial to bring biblical changes to the Christian counselees. As a conclusion, the article suggests the need of developing concrete technique and methods to bring concrete biblical changes based on Welch's contributions.

성경적 상담과 상담목회의 실천

현대 목회는 위기 상황에 있다. 가치관의 혼란에서 오는 시대적 상황이 목회를 어렵게 한다. 목회를 위한 접근 모델은 은사적 모델, 전통적 모델, 개혁 주의적 모델 등으로 나눌 수 있는데 평신도들의 문제를 어떻게 해결하느냐에 그 초점이 있다. 연구자는 여러 모델들 가운데서 개혁주의적 모델을 기초로 하여`성경적 상담목회`를 그 원리로 제시하고자 한다. 성경적 상담은 성경을 상담의 원리와 방법으로 삼고 성경의 가르침대로 하는 상담이다. 그러므로 성경적 상담의 바른 실천을 위해서는 성경적 상담의 원리와 방법을 정립하여야 한다. 이것을 기초로 하여 상담목회를 실천해야 하는데 현대사회 속에서 살아가면서 정신적, 육체적, 심리적으로 어려움을 겪는 사람을 단순한 문제 해결뿐만 아니라 그들의 사고와 감정과 행동과 성품을 성령과 말씀을 통해 변화시키고 재훈련하여 하나님의 영광을 위해 살도록 하는 것이 성경적 상담이 지향해 가는 목적이다. 따라서 상담목회는 단순한 열정으로 되는 것이 아니라 성경을 바탕으로 한 바른 신학, 성경적 상담에 대한 교육과 훈련, 성경적 상담목회의 실천이라는 단계를 밟아 나가야 한다. 이 사역을 위해 본고에서는 목회적 대안모델로서의 성경적 상담의 실천방안과 상담목회의 전략과 확산에 대해서 고찰한다. Contemporary ministry is at a time of crisis. Confusion of moral values brought on by the societal upheaval makes ministering difficult. In order to help the lay church members cope with these confounding changes, there are a number of approach models, including mentor model, traditional model and reformed model, to the ministry. This article takes the reformed model as the foundation and biblical counseling ministry as the principle of contemporary ministry. Biblical counseling is a method of counseling that takes the bible as the basis of all counseling principles and methods. Therefore, in order for a proper practice of biblical counseling, it is necessary to formulate and articulate the principles of biblical counseling. Such principles must be the basis of counseling ministry, which must aim to not only resolve the spiritual, physical and psychological difficulties faced by lay Christians in contemporary society but also fundamentally transform their lives through the Holy Spirit and the bible. The ultimate purpose of biblical counseling ministry is to help Christians live their lives for the glory of God. Counseling ministry, therefore, cannot be carried out only through one`s passion or compassion, and it requires a systematic training in theology, principles and practice methods of biblical counseling. For the purpose of such ministry, this article offers biblical counseling as an alternative model of contemporary Christian ministry and examines practice methods and ways of expanding and spreading biblical counseling in the Korean church.

기독교상담의 통합 모델에 관한 성경적 상담학적 조명

본 연구는 성경적 상담의 관점에서 기독교 상담의 통합 모델에 관하여 재조명하고자 하였다. 본 논문은 크게 세 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 첫째는 통합의 내용에 관한 부분이다. 둘째는 통합의 모델에 관한 부분이다. 셋째는 전체적으로 성경적 상담학적으로 재조명 하는 부분이다. 본 논문을 통해서 통합의 내용과 모델을 이해한 후에, 성경적 상담학적 관점으로 기독교 상담의 통합을 재조명하고 평가해 보았다. 이를 위해 먼저 기독교 상담과 통합에 있어서 통합의 역사, 개념, 내용들을 살펴보았다. 더 나아가 다양한 학자들의 통합적 모델들을 보았다. 이와 같은 기독교 상담의 통합모델에 관하여 성경적 상담학적 관점으로 조명하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 통합으로 인하여 정확 무오한 하나님의 말씀인 성경의 진리가 훼손되어서는 안 된다는 것이다. 둘째, 성경과 심리학의 권위가 동등하게 취급될 수 없다는 것이다. 셋째, 성경적 세계관과 충돌하는 심리학적 지식과 정보를 수용할 수 없다는 것이다. 넷째, 성경적 렌즈를 통하여 심리학과 상담을 재조명해야 한다는 것이다. 다섯째, 성경에 위배되지 않는 범주에서 과학으로서의 심리학의 이론과 정보를 사용할 수 있다는 것이다. There are a number of schools in the modern Christianity counseling field which criticize or complement one another through mutual debates. The most fierce debate subject is about how to approach psychology. In fact, there are various opinions about how to approach psychology among scholars of Christian counseling. Some of them support counseling based on psychology while others support counseling based on the Bible principles. An integrated model that integrates Christianity and psychology has emerged only recently. The term “Integration” in this field was firstly coined by Fritz Kunkel. After him, the integration between Christianity and psychology has been confused with many difficulties. Some scholars have preferred a theoretical approach whereas others have preferred a practical approach. Some scholars have paid attention to how to integrate them whereas others have paid more attention to what to integrate. Therefore, it is not easy to define the direction of the integration in short since the approach and opinions of the integration vary. The integration of Christianity and psychology is as important to human lives as the integration of theory and application, faith and practice, and politics and economy. This study aimed to re-highlight and evaluate the integration model of the Christianity counseling from the viewpoint of the biblical counseling. To achieve this goal, history, concepts, and opinions of the integration en the Christianity counseling were discussed first in this study. Moreover, the integration models of various scholars were reviewed. The integration model of the Christianity counseling was re-highlighted from the biblical counseling point of view. This paper is organized mainly with three parts. The first part is about various opinions of the integration. The second part is about the integration models. The third part is to re-highlight the integration model with biblical counseling viewpoints. Through this paper, opinions and models of the integration were understood and the integration of the Christianity counseling was re-highlighted and evaluated from the biblical counseling viewpoints. The findings are as follows. First, the truth of the Bible, which contains the precise Words of God, should not be altered due to the integration. Second, the authority of the Bible should not be treated like psychology. Third, psychological knowledge and information that conflict with the biblical view of the world are not acceptable. Fourth, psychology and counseling should be re-illuminated through a biblical lens. Fifth, psychological theories and information can be used as long as they do not contradict biblical teachings.

기독교 상담과 성경: 성경적 상담 관점에서

이 논문의 목적은 기독교 상담에 있어 성경의 충분성에 관한 논쟁의 성경적 방향을 제시하고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해서 이 논문은 성경의 사용과 충분성의 논쟁이 성경 대 심리학의 구도로 이루어져 왔음을 지적하고, 최근의 성경적 상담의 발전을 심리학에 대한 좀 더 개방적인 자세로의 발전이 아닌 더욱 복음적인 방향으로의 발전으로 해석한다. 그리고 복음적 방향으로의 발전이 실제상담에서 함축하는 의미를 고찰한다. 기독교 상담을 이루고 있는 주류 목회상담학과 복음주의 기독교 상담학은 과거에 상담에서의 성경 사용을 심리학과의 관계에서 논하였다. 특별히 심리학을 일반계시로 다루는 통합주의와 인본주의적인 심리학을 배격하고 성경 중심의 상담을 지향하는 성경적 상담 사이에 일어난 논쟁은 분열과 판단을 유발하였음을 지적한다. 그런 가운데서도 최근 들어 성경적 상담 2세대들의 노력을 통해 성경적 상담의 발전이 있었는데, 이는 에릭 존슨이 주장한 대로 심리학을 비롯한 성경 외의 자료에 대한 열린 자세에서 기인했다기보다는 복음주의 기독교 상담 안에서의 대화와 교류를 통한 상담과 내담자에 대한 복음적인 관점에서의 이해에서 비롯된 것이다. 구체적으로 이 글은 2세대 성경적 상담학자들의 문제와 고난에 대한 폭넓은 이해와 마음의 문제로서의 동기의 이해라는 성경적인 변화에 관해 고찰한다. 그리고 이러한 변화가 기독교 상담자들이 심리학의 사용 여부에 상관없이 실제상담에서 상담과 내담자를 좀 더 성경적으로 이해하는 데 초점을 맞추도록 이끌 수 있음을 강조한다. The purpose of this study is to suggest the direction of debate about the sufficiency of scripture in Christian counseling. To achieve this purpose, this essay first points out that past debate on the use of the Bible and the sufficiency of scripture went to the direction of psychology versus theology. Then it interprets the recent advancement in Biblical counseling was toward more gospel-centered direction, not toward more open to psychology as Eric Johnson argued. This study also investigates the implication of the past advancement in Biblical counseling. It is argued that the discussions on the use of the Bible in counseling in mainline pastoral counseling and evangelical Christian counseling centered on relationship with psychology. Especially debates in evangelical circle resulted in division and rivalry largely between integrationist and Biblical counseling camps. However, recent advancement in Biblical counseling toward more gospel-oriented promoted dialogues and interactions. This essay refutes Eric Johnson's claim that this development in Biblical counseling was due to more open stance to psychology, but claim that more biblically oriented understanding of human nature and counseling drove this changes. Concretely, this article pointed out the changes in understanding human suffering and motivation in human heart. Finally, this study provide practical implication that regardless of the use of psychology in counseling, more gospel oriented approach enables Christian counselors to focus on biblical understanding of a counselee and counseling procedure.

미국 복음주의 내 성경적 상담의 확장과 ‘신칼빈주의’

The purpose of this study is to investigate New Calvinism’s influence as a major cause to the recent expansion of Biblical Counseling Movement in American Evangelicalism, The study first examines the status of Biblical Counseling in Evangelical Christian Counseling, and then describes how Biblical Counseling as well as New Calvinism have expanded in American evangelicalism. The study argues that to understand the rise of Biblical Counseling 'New Calvinism" should be examined. To prove New Calvinism’s influence on Biblical Counseling, the study investigates the writings of Timothy Keller and John Piper, two important leaders of New Calvinism, in the areas of theology and counseling. The study pointed out that Biblical Counseling was founded on the principles of Reformed theology and has emphasizes God, the Bible, and Church. In the area of counseling theory, the article noted that Biblical Counseling put emphasis on biblical understanding of person and motivation of heart. Based on this examination, It was argued that Keller and Piper, in their writings, share these theological and counseling views with Biblical Counseling. The purpose of this study is to investigate New Calvinism’s influence as a major cause to the recent expansion of Biblical Counseling Movement in American Evangelicalism, The study first examines the status of Biblical Counseling in Evangelical Christian Counseling, and then describes how Biblical Counseling as well as New Calvinism have expanded in American evangelicalism. The study argues that to understand the rise of Biblical Counseling ‘New Calvinism” should be examined. To prove New Calvinism’s influence on Biblical Counseling, the study investigates the writings of Timothy Keller and John Piper, two important leaders of New Calvinism, in the areas of theology and counseling. The study pointed out that Biblical Counseling was founded on the principles of Reformed theology and has emphasizes God, the Bible, and Church. In the area of counseling theory, the article noted that Biblical Counseling put emphasis on biblical understanding of person and motivation of heart. Based on this examination, It was argued that Keller and Piper, in their writings, share these theological and counseling views with Biblical Counseling. As a conclusion, the study provides implication that examining theological influence in studying Christian counseling is important, and suggests that future studies need to develop concrete models of change and methods to enhance Biblical Counseling.

상담자 성경교육의 중요성 및 그 방향

현대사회의 키워드 중 하나인`힐링`은 복잡한 사회관계망 속에 서있는 현대인들의 불안하고 소외된 내면을 그대로 고발하고 있다. 그러나 어떤 종류의 다양한 힐링 문화로도 참된 치유를 가져다주지 못한다. 예수님은 이런 인생들을 향하여 진정한 쉼을 약속하셨으며, 따라서 예수님을 통해 하나님과 올바른 관계를 회복해야만 참된 치유와 안정을 얻을 수 있다. 성경적 상담은 하나님께서 치유의 도구로 사용하시는 방법 중 하나로서 성령의 사역이다. 성령이 진리의 영으로서 성경말씀을 통해 역사하신다는 사실을 고려할 때, 말씀을 떠난 성경적 상담이란 불가능하다. 그렇기 때문에 성경적 상담을 수행하는 상담자들은 성령의 역사에 민감하고 성령과 상호협력하기 위해서 철저한 성경교육을 필요로 한다. 기독교 상담은 일반상담과는 달리, 상담을 하나님의 사역으로 보고 있으며, 단순한 문제해결만이 아니라 피상담자의 영적 회복과 성숙에 그 목적을 둔다. 기독교 상담이 성경적 상담이어야만 하는 이유는 첫째, 기독교 상담은 성령의 사역이기 때문이며, 둘째, 상담의 목적인 변화, 영적 성숙은 하나님의 말씀을 통해 이루어지기 때문이다. 셋째, 기독교 진리를 희석시키는 세속 학문의 영향 때문이다. 인간의 근원적이고 본질적인 문제에 대한 답은 오직 성경만이 제시할 수 있다. 따라서 기독교 상담이 세속학문의 영향력으로부터 기독교 진리를 지켜내고, 성경을 통한 여과작업을 통해 통합적 상담을 시행하기 위해서는 성경에 기초를 둔 성경적 상담이어야만 한다. 상담은 성령의 사역이지만, 성령께서는 인간 상담자를 도구로 사용하신다. 따라서 성령의 도구요 협력자로서 상담자는 첫째, 자신이 성령의 도구임을 인정해야 하며, 둘째, 피상담자의 목자가 되어야 한다. 상담자의 자격 요건은 몇 가지로 정리할 수 있다. 첫째, 분명한 기독교 신앙을 소유한 사람이어야 한다. 둘째, 기도의 사람이어야 한다. 셋째, 말씀의 사람이어야 한다. 물론 영적 자격 외에 체계적이고 전문적인 상담기술과 방법에 대한 교육이 필요하다. 그러나 무엇보다도 올바른 성경적 상담이 이루어지기 위해서는 성경교육이 가장 우선되어야 한다. 성경교육이 중요한 이유는 첫째, 상담자가 성경을 바로 이해하고 해석할 뿐 아니라, 성경말씀을 상담에 적용할 수 있도록 도와주기 때문이다. 둘째, 성경은 인간에 대한 바른 이해를 제시해주기 때문에 상담자로 하여금 피상담자를 하나님 편에서 도울 수 있도록 해준다. 셋째, 성경이 기독교 세계관의 토대이기 때문에 상담자의 성경교육은 중요하다. 그러면 상담자를 위한 성경교육이 어떤 방향으로 이루어져야 할까? 첫째, 상담자가 말씀을 바르게 이해하고 해석할 뿐 아니라, 삶에 적용하며 말씀을 통한 변화를 체험할 수 있도록 돕기 위해서 전인적 성경교육을 해야 한다. 둘째, 상담자가 성경에 기초한 인간관을 확립하고 이를 바탕으로 피상담자를 이해하며 그를 하나님 편에서 돕도록 하기 위해서는 성경교육이 실존적으로 접근되어야 한다. 셋째, 성경교육을 통해 상담자의 기독교 세계관이 형성되도록 해야 한다. 이와 같은 큰 방향 위에 구체적인 방법들은 더 논의되어야할 것이다. One keyword of the modern society, `healing` is earnestly accusing the anxiety and inner sense of alienation of modern people standing in the complex social network. However, any kind of the various healing cultures cannot provide true healing to them. Jesus has promised true rest for these souls, so that true healing and stability can be secured by the recovery of right relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Biblical counseling is a work of the Holy Spirit as one of the ways God uses as an instrument for healing. Considering that the Holy Spirit, as the Spirit of truth, works through the Bible, biblical counseling without the words of God is impossible. Therefore, the counselors who are conducting biblical counseling require thorough Bible education to be sensitive to the works of Holy Spirit and to perform mutual cooperation. Unlike regular counseling, Christian counseling not only just resolves a problem, but is considered as a work of God with the purpose of spiritual recovery and maturity of the counselee. The reasons why Christian counseling should be the biblical counseling are; first, Christian counseling is the work of the Holy Spirit; second, the purpose of counseling, changing and spiritual maturity, is only possible through the Word of God. The third is the influence of secular studies to dilute the Christian truth. The answers to fundamental and essential problems of human beings can be only provided by the Bible. Therefore, Christian counseling should be biblical counseling based on the Bible in order to defend the Christian truth from the influence of secular studies and to provide integrated counseling with filtration action through the Bible. Although counseling is the ministry of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit uses human counselors as a tool. Therefore, as a tool of the Holy Spirit and a co-worker, the counselor; first, need to recognize oneself as a tool of the Holy Spirit; second, need to be the shepherd for the counselee. The qualifications as a counselor can be summarized as follows. First, it should be a person who owns obvious Christian faith. Second, it should be a person of prayer. Third, it should be a person of Word. Besides the spiritual qualifications, it should be a person who is trained in systematic and professional counseling techniques and methods. But above all, Bible teaching should be the highest priority for the correct biblical counseling. The reasons why Bible teaching is important are; first, it helps the counselor not only to understand and interpret the Bible immediately but also to apply the words of the Scripture to the counseling; second, as the Bible presents a correct understanding of the human, it allows counselor to help the counselee on the side of God. Third, the Bible is the foundation of the Christian world view that the Bible teaching is important. Then, in which direction the Bible teaching for the counselor should be made? First of all, a holistic Bible teaching should be given to help them not only understand and interpret the Scripture correctly but apply the Word in their lives and experience the change through the Word. Second, Bible teaching should be approached existentially for the counselor to establish human view based on the Bible and to understand the counselee on this ground and to help them on the side of God. Third, the Christian worldview of the counselor should be formed through Bible teaching. Specific methods will be discussed more on this large scale direction.
