      • 『鍼灸經驗方』 補瀉法의 醫史學的 意義

        정유옹,김남일 사암침법학회 2020 사암침법학회지 Vol.2 No.1

In 1644, Heoim wrote and published 󰡔Chimgu Kyeonghumbang󰡕. The book contains acupuncture methods of tonification and reduction and acupuncture treatment methpds. These are important data to estimate the level of acupuncture at that time. In the 󰡔Chimgu Kyeonghumbang󰡕 Heoim presented a treatment method based on the Yin Yang theory based on Oriental philosophy. He tried to treat the disease according to the principle of “Keep the head cool and the legs warm” based on the Yin Yang theory. This principle was taken for granted in drug prescriptions, but was not universal in acupuncture. Thus, acupuncture was suggested to keep the upper body cool and the lower body warm. In 󰡔Chimgu Kyeonghumbang󰡕 cold and heat was used as a way to differentiate the symptoms. Depending on the principles of Yin Yang, symptoms can be analyzed with cold and fever, weakness and strongness, outer and inner, dryness and humidity. Among them, Heoim noted for cold and heat and used as the basis for determining symptoms in acupuncture treatment. This led to the creation of a SAAM acupuncture method that identifies symptoms by ‘cold and heat’ and ‘excess and deficiency’. Heoim developed his own tonifying or reducing method and used it to treat cold and heat symptoms. It was a new method which was further developed from the ones existed at the time. The method of tonifying or reducing through breathing, fasting, opening and closing while treating with acupuncture was implemented so that it can be done at once. In accordance with the principle of ‘Keeping the head cool and the legs warm’. Heoim used the method to keep the upper body cool and the lower body warm. They also used a method of tonifying or reducing to cure the disease from the cold or heat. Due to the method of Heoim, the acupuncture method of the mid-Joseon period was basically elaborated, and the foundation of creative acupuncture methods such as SAAM acupuncture was possible.

      • 『장진요편(藏珍要編)』의 팔맥교회혈 침법 연구

        정유옹 ( Jung Yooong ),김남일 ( Kim Namil ) 사암침법학회 2021 사암침법학회지 Vol.3 No.1

『Jang-jin-yo-pyeon』 is a medical book on acupuncture, published in 1894 by Song-gye. 『Jang-jin-yo-pyeon』 could not be seen in Korea, but it was published and made known in Japan by the disciples of the acupuncturist Yanagiya-Sorei, who took it to Japan during the Japanese colonial period. In 『Jang-jin-yo-pyeon』, the patient’s constitution was more important than the severity of the disease. In 『Jang-jin-yo-pyeon』, it seems to have been applied to the Eight Confluent Acupoints by classifying it according to weakness and strength, outside and inside, cold and heat, dry and wet. Referring to Kim Hong-kyung’s theory of Saam acupuncture, In 『Jang-jin-yo-pyeon』, it can be seen that he tried to control the human body with eight acupuncture points : (SI3-LU7) to treat strength and weakness, (TE5-PC6) to treat the outside and inside, (BL62-KI5) to treat cold and heat, and (GB15-SP4) to treat dryness and moisture. It can be seen that the intention was to tune the metabolism of the human body by limiting the application of only 8 types of acupoints placed in a relative relationship. This book is also one of the cases that proves that the acupuncture method of Joseon during the Japanese colonial period spread to Japan and contributed to the development of modern acupuncture. Through this case, it is presumed that the indigenous acupuncture methods of Joseon, which had been handed down for a long time, were cut off in the process of transition to the modern era, or that many traditional knowledge of Korean medicine was lost due to historical tragedies such as the Japanese colonial period or the Korean War. Efforts to discover and re-illuminate these traditional Korean acupuncture treatments so that they can be used in clinical practice are also thought to be a way to learn the old and learn the new.

      • 요통의 사암침법 활용에 대한 문헌 고찰

        임재현 ( Jae-hyeon Im ) 사암침법학회 2021 사암침법학회지 Vol.3 No.1

Objectives : This study compared and reviewed SAAM acupuncture method and traditional treatment method through literature study in the treatment of Low Back Pain. Methods : We investigated the literature for SAAM acupuncture and NaeKyung (內經) and DongUiBoGam (東醫寶鑑) acupuncture treatment for Low Back Pain. Results & conclusions : The use of LU and LI for the treatment of low back pain in SAAM Acupuncture is a unique view of Saam Acupuncture, which is different from NaeKyung (內經) and DongUiBoGam (東醫寶鑑). In particular, in the SAAM acupuncture method, LI was considered more important, breaking the existing doctrine that emphasized BL in the treatment of Low Back Pain. The diagnostic point of LU is a curved spine, and the diagnostic point of LI is the appearance of a lump on the LI pathway under the ear. The symptoms of LR, GB, BL, SP, ST, KI except for Lu and LI among the 8 meridians used to treat Low Back Pain in SAAM acupuncture are similar to those of NaeKyung (內經). In the SAAM acupuncture method, the diagnosis according to the meridians is more important than the diagnosis according to the cause of the disease in the treatment of Low Back Pain.

Objectives : The SAM-BU acupuncture method is the new SAAM acupuncture method that uses SAM-BU acupoint which has three five-elements created by Kim Hong-kyung. Therefore, we tried to compare and examine the similarities and differences between the acupuncture points in the existing literature and the acupuncture points used in the SAM-BOO acupuncture, focusing on ‘LU5 and ST44’. Methods : ‘尺澤’ (LU5) and ‘內庭’ (ST44) were searched in 102 books using “MEDICLASSICS” Korea institute of oriental medicine (https://mediclassics.kr/). After that, this data was analyzed and summarized, and we compared with the use of the SAM-BU acupuncture. Results : Similarities (Variety of conditions applied and MOK(木)-WHA(火)siljeung) were found between the use of ‘LU5 and ST44’ used in the SAM-BU acupuncture method and the use of ‘LU5 and ST44’ that appeared in the literature. Conclusions : Although the SAM-BU acupuncture method is a new acupuncture method, it inherits the existing theories of acupuncture and has the potential to complement each other and develop.

Objectives : So far, there have been no studies on Chong-Tong Acupuncture. This study was undertaken in order to consider Chong-Tong Acupuncture’s prescription composition, characteristics, and the diagnostic methods. Methods : We studied the Chong-Tong Acupuncture based on Dr. Lee Chi-woong’s books and seeked Doctor Lee Chi-woong’s advice. Results : 1. Chong-Tong Acupuncture is based on Saam Acupuncture, but there are differences in its principle of prescription. 2. Chong-Tong Acupuncture identifies the patient’s pathological condition based on the patient's symptoms and abdominal diagnosis. 3. Chong-Tong Acupuncture is composed of Five element points to make its acupuncture prescription. 4. Chong-Tong Acupuncture’s diagnosis and treatments are carried out mainly on the synthesis of the five Zhang (Viscera) and six Fu (Bowels)’s diagnosis. 5. In Chong-Tong Acupuncture, a point which ZhangFu (Viscera and Bowels)’s five element property and its acupuncture point’s five element property is same is called the Representative of Five element points. This seems similar to Kim Hong Kyung’s Cheonbu acupuncture points, but it has a different meaning. 6. Chong-Tong Acupuncture enables a new way of interpretation on Saam acupuncture.

      • 성리학과 한의학을 통합한 심신 관계의 구조화에 대한 소고(小考)

        이정환,권대호 사암침법학회 2020 사암침법학회지 Vol.2 No.1

Objectives : The purpose of the new structuring of the relationship between mind and body based on Neo-Confucianism and Korean medicine. Method : We combined Neo-Confucianism with Korean medicine and newly structured the theory of mind and body through the medium of Qi. Results and conclusions : Neo-Confucianism and Korean medicine. did not treat the mind and body separately by nature. These two disciplines present a Qi or field of Qi as a medium that connects the mind and the body. This background can be an important advantage in Mind-body medicine. The new structure of the mind-body relationship by integrating Neo-Confucianism and Korean medicine is as follows. Qi bears human nature and creates physiological and pathological phenomena of the mind and body. The meridian reveals the state and change of Qi by mind and body. If Qi is harmonious and stable, the mind and body are healthy. And if the Qi is inharmonious and unstable, the mind and body are unhealthy. The changes in the Qi are simultaneous in the mind and body, and these reactions can infer the state of the Qi. The pathological symptoms of the mind and body are connected to each other around unstable Qi and can be further diagnosed and treated using this mind and body connection. These Qi mediated mind and body relationships will not only be used in diagnosis and treatment, but will also be able to extend into the realm of treatment to the philosophical categories that give you a better idea of your personality and living the life accordingly.

      • 천지운기문의 사암침법 활용에 관한 고찰

        윤동원,박권 사암침법학회 2020 사암침법학회지 Vol.2 No.1

Objective : The purpose of this study is to review Sa-Ahm’s methods of combining acupoints to treat the diseases and calamities within the ten (10) heavenly stems, and investigate his prescriptions in order to understand the logic upon which they were premised. Methods : The methodology comprised a qualitative analysis of the prescriptions described in Sa-Ahm Doin Chim Gu Yuo Gyuel: The Essence of Sa-Ahm’s Acupuncture which pertain to each of the ten heavenly stems. From this, the relationships between each acupoint were derived and contextualized within their associated body organs. The heavenly stems (and the relationships within them) were then juxtaposed to determine the existence of a crucial underlying pattern. Results : Upon analysis, it was discovered that the diseases and calamities predicted for each year in the ten-year cycle can all be attributed to the balance of yin and yang within Wu-Yun (五運). In years of Yang-gan (陽干), the great excess or surplus of generated Yun (運) influences the matching organ and manifests its corresponding syndromes; just as in years of Yin-gan (陰干), the great inadequacy or deficiency of Yun (運) influences the organ and manifests inversely. Conclusions : Sa-Ahm’s therapeutic methods, which combine the acupoints of sedatives in order to redeem the balance of manifesting clinical issues, recognized that the state of Wu-Yun (五運) is what births the diseases and calamities within each of the ten heavenly stems. The acupoints correlate to a combinatory matrix of tonifiers in order to rebalance the excesses and inadequacies within the Wu-Yun (五運), as well as to a combinatory matrix of sedatives in order to address the specific syndromes which arise from those imbalances. In understanding his purposive approach to the heavenly stems, a new application of his methods has been pathed into modern acupuncture: we must practice not only Sa-Ahm’s formulas, but we must also learn the patterns which engender them.

      • 사암침법과 방제를 활용한 토극수(土克水) 불리의 만성 섬유근통 치료1례

        윤동원,박권 사암침법학회 2020 사암침법학회지 Vol.2 No.1

Background : Fibromyalgia is a common idiopathic condition which presents with chronic musculoskeletal pain. Western palliative treatments typically involve opioid analgesics, which come with a slew of common adverse effects such as drowsiness, brain fog, chronic constipation, and addiction. Due to their tolerance-building effects, opioid analgesics are often not reliable as a long-term treatment. Case : This case report evaluates the efficacy of Sa-Ahm acupuncture in conjunction with herbal medicine in the treatment of fibromyalgia. The subject is a 56-year-old woman who suffered from atypical muscle and joint pains and was no longer responding to prescription opioids. The severity of her symptoms prevented her from navigating her daily executive functions, and ultimately caused her to seek alternative treatments. The acupuncture treatment regimen comprised twelve visits over two months and involved the Four Korean Constitutional Medicine and NeiJing formulas as add-on treatments, both of which were closely monitored and modified over time. Upon self-assessment of her progressive pain reduction using the Numeric Rating Scale for Pain, it was noted that her global pain levels dropped by as much as 60%. Conclusion : Although fibromyalgia is an idiopathic condition which limits its most effective treatments to palliative rather than curative, the degree of efficacy of Sa-Ahm acupuncture and complementing herbal medicine is significant and clear.
