Ni2X2 (X=pnictide, chalcogenide, or B) based superconductors
Ronning, F.,Bauer, E.D.,Park, T.,Kurita, N.,Klimczuk, T.,Movshovich, R.,Sefat, A.S.,Mandrus, D.,Thompson, J.D. Elsevier 2009 Physica. C, Superconductivity Vol.469 No.9
<P>We review the properties of Ni-based superconductors which contain Ni2X2 (X = As, P, Bi, Si, Ge, B) planes, a common structural element found also in the recently discovered FeAs superconductors. Strong evidence for the fully gapped nature of the superconducting state has come from field dependent thermal conductivity results on BaNi2As2. Coupled with the lack of magnetism. the majority of evidence suggests that the Ni-based compounds are conventional elect ron-phonon mediated superconductors. However, the increase in T-c in LaNiAsO with doping is anomalous, and mimics the behavior in LaFeAsO. Furthermore, comparisons of the properties of Ni- and Fe-based systems show many similarities, particularly with regards to structure-property relationships. This suggests a deeper connection between the physics of the FeAs superconductors and the related Ni-based systems which deserves further investigation. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. ETHICS AND DIAMONDS: PARADOXICAL ISSUES SURROUNDING GUANXI RELATIONS IN CHINA
Ron Berger,Bradley R. Barnes,Whitla Paul,Herstein Ram,Silbiger Avi 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7
While in recent years much research attention has been directed towards China and its various industries, the Chinese diamond industry has been largely neglected. China is the world’s second-largest diamond processing center after India, and the second-largest consumer market for polished diamonds following the United States. It is also predicted to surpass both countries in the near future. We identify a paradox in the Chinese diamond industry, namely, that while Chinese businesses often follow a relational governance model, China’s diamond industry tends to employ rational mechanisms of governance and exchange. We discuss the main challenges for business ethics in China, with a focus on the paradox in the Chinese diamond industry as a case study using the GRX (Ganqing, Renqing and Xinren) scale. We used interview protocols and a two stage research process to examine the influence of the GRX constructs on relationship satisfaction and performance. Due to the complexity of gathering data on a relatively secretive industry, we complemented the fieldwork by collecting further evidential artifacts from journals, books, magazines and government officials. We ultimately identify five interrelated themes that help explain why exchange in the Chinese diamond industry is frequently more transactional than relational. Furthermore, we show how weaknesses in China’s governance systems have allowed fraud and corruption to permeate this industry and explain why business ethics appear poorly developed. The current study offers a new look at this under researched industry. Particularly, the manuscript illustrates a model of trust building based on relational exchange and explains the paradox through the business model presented. The research also helps to provide some rationale for the pervasiveness of corruption and identifies issues affecting the maturation of business ethics in the Chinese diamond industry and in some sense, China’s industries in general.
Applying a Buddhist Paradigm of Spiritual Practice to Contemporary Martial Art/Martial Sport Study
( Ron Dziwenka ) 국제태권도학회 2014 Journal of the International Association for Taekw Vol.1 No.1
The Goryeo-era Buddhist monk Jinul (Zhina 知訥, 지눌; 1158-1210 C.E.) offered a harmonizing view of Buddhist spiritual practice by applying the then prevalent view of Korean Seon (선, 禪 [Chan], Zen; meditative contemplation) to his understanding of Chinese Chan. Jinul`s approach emphasizes the comprehensiveness and applicability of the sudden awakening/gradual cultivation (SA/GC; 돈오점수 [dono jeomsu], 頓悟漸修 [dunwu jianxui]) paradigm of Buddhist spiritual practice, valorizing it as a definitive approach to practice. My qualitative research findings garnered through interviews of long-time practitioners of martial arts/martial sports (MA/MS) support my thesis that they are applying the SA/GC paradigm in their contemporary MA/MS practice. The practice toward syncretism of sila (戒 [jie], 계 [gye], pratimoksa; knowledge and learning of technique), samadhi (三昧 [sanmei] or 定 [ding], 정 [jeong]; focused concentration), and prajna (智慧 [zhihui], 지혜 [jihye]; the continuous development of understanding and wisdom based on the enactment of sila) appears central to the potential for a practitioner to experience an instance of understanding awakening (UA); a sila/samadhi/prajna simultaneity. Long-time practitioners support the engendering, instilling, and perpetuating of a view of practice that orients them toward experiencing this syncretism and simultaneity. This should be a soteriological goal of MA/MS practice.
LANSCE Nuclear Science Facilities and Activities
Ron O. Nelson 한국물리학회 2011 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.59 No.23
Nuclear science activities at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) encompass measurements spanning the neutron energy range from thermal to 600 MeV. The neutron sources use spallation of the LANSCE 800 MeV pulsed proton beam with the time-of-flight technique to measure properties of neutron-induced reactions as a function of energy over this large energy range. Current experiments are conducted at the Lujan Center moderated neutron source, the unmoderated WNR target, and with a lead-slowing-down spectrometer. Instruments in use include the DANCE array of BaF2 scintillators for neutron capture studies, the FIGARO array of liquid scintillator neutron detectors, the GEANIE array of high-resolution HPGe x-ray and gamma-ray detectors, and a number of fission chambers, and other detectors. The LANL capabilities for production and handling of radioactive materials coupled with the neutron sources and detectors at LANSCE are enabling new and challenging measurements for a variety of applications including nuclear energy and nuclear astrophysics. An overview of recent research and examples of results is presented.
Correction of Posttraumatic Enophthalmos
Ron Hazani,Michael J. Yaremchuk 대한성형외과학회 2012 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.39 No.1
Management of posttraumatic enophthalmos can present as a challenge to the reconstructive surgeon, particularly in cases of late presentation. This article reviews the pertinent anatomy of the orbit, diagnostic modalities, indications for surgery, and surgical approaches as they relate to the treatment of posttraumatic enophthalmos. Internal orbital reconstruction has evolved to an elegant procedure incorporating various biologic or alloplastic implants, including anatomical pre-bent implants. Successful repair of late enophthalmos has been demonstrated in multiple recent studies and is likely related to the precision with which orbital anatomy can be restored.
