A new method of X-ray source spectrum estimation based on compressed sensing is proposed in this paper. The algorithm K-SVD is applied for sparse representation. Nonnegative constraints are added by modifying the L1 reconstruction algorithm proposed by Rosset and Zhu. The estimation method is demonstrated on simulated spectra typical of mammography and CT. X-ray spectra are simulated with the Monte Carlo code Geant4. The proposed method is successfully applied to highly ill conditioned and under determined estimation problems with a good performance of suppressing noises. Results with acceptable accuracies (MSE < 5%) can be obtained with 10% Gaussian white noises added to the simulated experimental data. The biggest difference between the proposed method and the existing methods is that multiple prior knowledge of X-ray spectra can be included in one dictionary, which is meaningful for obtaining the true X-ray spectrum from the measurements.

Neutron conversion detectors that use 10B-enriched boron carbide are feasible alternatives to 3 He-based detectors. We prepared boron carbide films at micron-scale thickness using direct-current magnetron sputtering. The structural characteristics of natural B4C films, including density, roughness, crystallization, and purity, were analyzed using grazing incidence X-ray reflectivity, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry, and scanning electron microscopy. A beam profile test was conducted to verify the practicality of the 10B-enriched B4C neutron conversion layer. A clear profile indicated the high quality of the neutron conversion of the boron carbide layer.

<P><B>Summary</B></P> <P>The glycogen synthase kinase-3 (GSK3) family kinases are central cellular regulators highly conserved in all eukaryotes. In <I>Arabidopsis</I>, the GSK3-like kinase BIN2 phosphorylates a range of proteins to control broad developmental processes, and BIN2 is degraded through unknown mechanism upon receptor kinase-mediated brassinosteroid (BR) signaling. Here we identify KIB1 as an F-box E3 ubiquitin ligase that promotes the degradation of BIN2 while blocking its substrate access. Loss-of-function mutations of KIB1 and its homologs abolished BR-induced BIN2 degradation and caused severe BR-insensitive phenotypes. KIB1 directly interacted with BIN2 in a BR-dependent manner and promoted BIN2 ubiquitination in vitro. Expression of an F-box-truncated KIB1 caused BIN2 accumulation but dephosphorylation of its substrate BZR1 and activation of BR responses because KIB1 blocked BIN2 binding to BZR1. Our study demonstrates that KIB1 plays an essential role in BR signaling by inhibiting BIN2 through dual mechanisms of blocking substrate access and promoting degradation.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> KIB1 is an essential positive regulator in brassinosteroid signaling </LI> <LI> KIB1 mediates BR-induced ubiquitination and degradation of GSK3 kinase BIN2 </LI> <LI> KIB1 binding to BIN2 prevents BIN2-substrate interaction and promotes BIN2 degradation </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical Abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Opportunities and Challenges of HTTP Adaptive Streaming
Hongyun Yang,Xuhui Chen,Zongkai Yang,Xiaoliang Zhu,Yi Chen 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of Future Generation Communi Vol.7 No.6
HTTP-based Adaptive Streaming (HAS) has emerged as the prominent technology for the delivery of audiovisual content over the Internet in recent years and has a major impact on network traffic. Although traditional stateful session-based streaming solution based on UDP was used initially for media content delivery, researchers and practitioners soon realize that HAS technology, due to get through firewalls friendly ,transfer NAT easily ,effectively utilize the existing networking infrastructure and provide uninterrupted video streaming service to users with dynamic network conditions and heterogeneous devices, has the potential to improve the Quality of Experiments compared with traditional streaming technologies. Consequently, various HAS media streaming solutions have been proposed and deployed successfully. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art of HAS technology and discoveries achieved by numerous researchers. We describe the basic taxonomy of HTTP adaptive streaming systems and summarize the major issues associated with HAS systems’ design. Then we outline the key challenges and open problems and highlight possible avenues for future directions.

Phosphorus (P) deficiency is one of the major factors that limit legume nodulation and nitrogen (N) fixation, and thus legume productivity. In our previous study, we showed that three T2 transgenic soybean lines overexpressing rice phosphate transporter gene OsPT2 showed enhanced tolerance to low P stress. This study aimed to determine whether OsPT2 overexpression would increase N2 fixation and ammonium assimilation in three T3 homozygous transgenic lines (HTLs) under P deficiency in pot culture. Under low inorganic phosphate (Pi) conditions, the P accumulation, total N and total ureide concentrations were significantly higher in the T3 HTLs than in the wild type (WT) plants. Further, the T3 HTLs showed significantly better plant growth performance and nodule development than the WT plants under low-Pi conditions. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis showed that the expression levels of GmENOD40-1, GmENOD40-2 (two early nodulin genes), and GmLba (one leghemoglobin gene) were significantly increased in T3 HTLs under P deficiency at 24 and 32 d after inoculation (DAI). The increased transcript levels of GmGS1β1 and GmGS1β2 (two cytosolic glutamine synthetase genes) in the T3 HTLs were consistent with the increase in glutamine synthetase (GS, EC 6.3.1.2) activity at 32 DAI. Our results indicated that the overexpression of OsPT2 in T3 HTLs enhances N2 fixation and ammonium assimilation activity under low P stress.
Buckling of an elastic plate due to surface-attached thin films with intrinsic stresses
Zhu, J.,Yang, J.S.,Ru, C.Q. Techno-Press 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.52 No.1
We analyze the buckling of a thin elastic plate due to intrinsic stresses in thin films attached to the surfaces of the plate. In the case of cylindrical buckling, it is shown that for a plate with clamped edges compressive intrinsic film stresses can cause flexural buckling of the plate, while tensile intrinsic film stresses cannot. For a plate with free edges, film intrinsic stresses, compressive or tensile, cannot cause buckling.
Locating a weakened interface in a laminated elastic plate
Zhu, J.,Yang, J.S.,Chen, W.Q. Techno-Press 2012 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.41 No.6
We study thickness-shear (TSh) free vibrations of an unbounded, laminated elastic plate with three layers of different materials. One of the two interfaces is slightly weakened as described by the shear-lag model that allows the displacement to be discontinuous across the interface. A frequency equation is obtained from the linear theory of elasticity. A perturbation solution of the frequency equation is obtained from which the frequency shifts of TSh modes due to the weakened interface can be calculated. It is shown that the frequency shifts of TSh modes of different orders are different, and they satisfy different conditions when different interfaces are weakened. These conditions are obtained which can potentially be used as criteria for determining specifically which interface is weakened.

Artemisinin, the effective ingredient of Chinese herb Artemisia annua L (Qinghao in Chinese), has been proved to be effective to antimalarial. Herein, a reliable, sensitive and convenient electrochemical method was developed for the determination of artemisinin utilizing the excellent properties of multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWNT). The electrochemical behavior of artemisinin was investigated. It is found that the reduction peak current of artemisinin remarkably increases and the peak potential shifts positively by 240 mV at the MWNT film-modified electrode. These phenomena indicate that the MWNT film exhibits efficient catalytic activity to the electrochemical reduction of artemisinin. The effects of pH value, amount of MWNT, scan rate and accumulation time were examined. The limit of detection (S/N = 3) is as low as 10 $\mu$ g $L^{-1}$. Finally, this newly developed method was used to determine the content of artemisinin in Artemisia annua L.

Twenty novel tetramic acid derivatives (E)-3-(1-(alkyloxyamino)ethylidene)-1-alkylpyrrolidine-2,4-diones were synthesized by the reaction of 3-(1-hydroxyethylidene)pyrrolidine-2,4-diones with O-alkyl hydroxylamines. The title compounds were confirmed by IR, $^1H$ NMR, MS and elemental analysis. The structure of compound 6r was further verified by X-ray diffraction crystallography. The bioassays showed that most of the title compounds exhibited noticeable herbicidal and fungicidal activities.
miR-9 Modulates Osteosarcoma Cell Growth by Targeting the GCIP Tumor Suppressor
Zhu, Shao-Wen,Li, Jian-Peng,Ma, Xin-Long,Ma, Jian-Xiong,Yang, Yang,Chen, Yang,Liu, Wei Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.11
Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor in humans, especially in childhood. However, the genetic etiology for its pathogenesis remains elusive. It is known that microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in the development of tumor progression. Here we show that microRNA-9 (miR-9) is a potential oncogene upregulated in osteosarcoma cells. Knockdown of miR-9 in osteosarcoma resulted in suppressed colony formation and cell proliferation. Further study identified GCIP, a Grap2 and cyclin D interacting protein, as a direct target of miR-9. In addition, GCIP overexpression activated retinoblastoma 1 (Rb) and suppressed E2F transcriptional target expression in osteosarcoma cells. Moreover, GCIP depletion reversed miR-9 knockdown induced colony formation and cell proliferation suppression. In sum, these results highlight the importance of miR-9 as an oncogene in regulating the proliferation of osteosarcoma by directly targeting GCIP and may provide new insights into the pathogenesis of osteosarcoma.
