        In vitro fermentation profiles of different soybean oligosaccharides and their effects on skatole production and cecal microbiota of broilers

        Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the in vitro fermentation profiles of different soybean oligosaccharides (SBOs) and their effects on skatole production and cecal microbiota of broilers. Methods: Five SBOs with varying main component contents were fermented using an in vitro batch incubation inoculated with broiler cecal microbiota. Gas production was recorded automatically, skatole, indole and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were determined using high-performance liquid chromatography, and microbial changes were analyzed using 16S DNA gene sequencing. Results: The addition of SBOs increased (p<0.05) gas production, suggesting bacterial growth-stimulating activities. In addition, the concentrations of indole were significantly (p<0.05) decreased after SBO supplementation, and SBO III, with higher sucrose and stachyose contents, decreased (p<0.05) the skatole level. Our results also revealed that the fermentation of SBOs by cecal microbiota produced (p<0.05) SCFAs, which were dominated by propionic acid, butyrate acid and lactic acid compared to the control. In addition, SBO III increased (p<0.05) the abundance of Firmicutes and Subdoligranulum and decreased that of Bacteroides. Conclusion: These results suggest that SBOs with higher sucrose and stachyose contents are promising prebiotics in modulating gut microbiota and reducing odor emission in broilers.       • Malignant Transformation Rate and P53, and P16 Expression in Teratomatous Skin of Ovarian Mature Cystic Teratoma

        Objective: To investigate the incidence of malignant transformation and P53 and P16 expression in teratomatous skin of ovarian mature cystic teratoma. Materials and Methods: Data on ovarian teratoma specimens in nearly 10 years were reviewed. P53 and P16 expression were detected by immunohistochemistry in 25 cases of teratomatous skin of ovarian mature cystic teratoma, 20 cases of squamous cell carcinoma and 2 cases of squamous cell carcinoma originated from teratomatous skin. Results: Of 1913 cases of ovarian mature cystic teratoma in nearly 10 years, only two cases of squamous cell carcinoma were found in teratomatous skin, with malignant transformation rate of 0.1045%. P53 expression was detected in 2 cases squamous cell carcinoma originated from teratomatous skin and P16 overexpression in one. There were no expressions of P53 and P16 in 25 cases of teratomatous skin of ovarian mature cystic teratoma. Of 20 cases of squamous cell carcinoma P53 overexpression (positive rate of 55%) was detected in 11 cases, P16 overexpression (positive rate of 35%) in 7 cases. The positive rates of P53 and P16 expression in squamous cell carcinomas were significantly higher than that in the teratomatous skins (p< 0.001, p= 0.002). Conclusions: There was low risk of malignant transformation in teratomatous skin of ovarian mature cystic teratoma which can be explained by lower P53 and P16 expressionin teratomas than that in squamous cell carcinoma.

        Effect of enzymolytic soybean meal supplementation on performance, nitrogen excretion, serum biochemical parameters and intestinal morphology in broilers fed low-protein diets

        Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of supplementation with enzymolytic soybean meal (ESBM) on broilers fed low crude protein (CP) diets. Methods: A total of 360 one-day-old broilers were randomly assigned to six treatments with 6 replicates per treatment and 10 chicks per replicate for a period of 42 days. Chicks were fed a basal standard high-CP diet as a positive control (PC), a low-CP diet (reducing 10 g/kg CP from the PC) as a negative control (NC), or an NC + 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, or 2.0% ESBM diet. Results: Compared to chicks fed the PC, chicks fed the NC had a decreased body weight gain (BWG, p<0.05) from 1 to 42 days, but supplementation with 2.0% ESBM restored BWG (p<0.05) and even linearly improved the feed conversion rate (FCR, p<0.05). Digestibility of CP and ether extract was increased (p<0.05) in chicks fed a 1.0% ESBM diet compared to the PC. With increasing levels of ESBM, nitrogen (N) excretion decreased (p<0.05). The addition of ESBM to the diet did not affect (p>0.05) serum concentrations of total protein, albumin and total cholesterol but led to a descending trend in triglycerides and an ascending trend in calcium and urea N at 42 days (p<0.10). There were no differences (p>0.05) in villus height (VH), crypt depth (CD), and VH/CD (V/C) of the duodenum and jejunum between the PC and NC at both 21 days and 42 days, while increasing dietary ESBM levels linearly (p<0.05) decreased CD and increased V/C of the duodenum and jejunum at both 21 days and 42 days. Conclusion: The findings indicated that ESBM could be used in broiler low-CP diets to improve production performance, decrease N excretion, and enhance intestinal health.

      • Management of Primary Hepatic Tuberculosis: A Single Center Experience

        Aims: Primary hepatic tuberculosis is a rare benign disease, without typical manifestation and specific test, which usually contribute to the misdiagnosis of the disease. Therefore, we reviewed eleven cases of primary hepatic tuberculosis in our medical center, in order to find the common features, which might be conductive to improve the diagnostic accuracy of the disease. Methods: Eleven cases of hepatic tuberculosis confirmed by histopathological examination from 2012 to 2017, were collected in our hospital. Clinical features and outcomes were retrospectively analyzed. Results: All the patients were in good condition at admission, including seven male and four female, aging from 18 to 66 years (average 42.7 years). They disclaimed history of pulmonary and any extra-pulmonary tuberculosis. Tumor markers including AFP, CA19-9 and CEA were within the normal range. All the patients, with liver function classified as Child Pugh A, showed no signs of infection. The lesions were presented as hypo-echoic, cystic or solid-cystic in ultrasonography, low density with periphery enhancement on CT scan, and mixed signals on MRI. Two patients were initially diagnosed as liver cancer, two as liver benign tumor, three as hilar tumor, two as liver abscess, and one as others. Five cases underwent partial hepatectomy, two received laparotomy and drainage of the abscess, two experienced laparotomy and liver biopsy, and two with percutaneous needle biopsy. All recovered well after the operation, subsequently received regular treatment of anti-tuberculosis, and completely cured for hepatic tuberculosis. Conclusions: Surgical intervention is an effective way to clarify the diagnosis of asymptomatic primary hepatic tuberculosis.

        Isocoumarin Derivatives from the Sea Squirt-derived Fungus Penicillium stoloniferum QY2-10 and the Halotolerant Fungus Penicillium notatum B-52

        Two isocoumarin derivatives, stoloniferol A (1) and B (2), a known $5{\alpha}$, $8{\alpha}-epidioxy-23-methyl-(22E, 24R)-ergosta-6$, $22-dien-3{\beta}-ol$ (3), and a known dihydrocitrinone (4) were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the sea squirt-derived fungus, Penicillium stoloniferum QY2-10, and a halophilic fungus, Penicillium notatum B-52, respectively. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and optical rotation. The stereochemistry of 2 was determined on the basis of different NOE experiments and chemical transformation. Compound 3 showed cytotoxicity against P388 cells, with an $IC_{50}$ value of 4.07 ${\mu}M$.

        MACWILLIAMS IDENTITIES OVER $M_n\times_s(Z_4)$ WITH RESPECT TO THE RT METRIC

        There has been a recent growth of interest in codes with respect to a newly defined non-Hamming metric grown as the Rosenbloom-Tsfasman metric (RT, or $\rho$, in short). In this paper, the definitions of the Lee complete $\rho$ weight enumerator and the exact complete $\rho$ weight enumerator of a code over $M_n_\times_s(Z_4)$ are given, and the MacWilliams identities with respect to this RT metric for the two weight enumerators of a linear code over $M_n_\times_s(Z_4)$ are proven too. At last, we also prove that the MacWilliams identities for the Lee and exact complete $\rho$ weight enumerators of a linear code over $M_n_\times_s(Z_4)$ are the generalizations of the MacWilliams identities for the Lee and complete weight enumerators of the corresponding code over $Z_4$.

      • Relationship between Breast Cancer and Levels of Serum Thyroid Hormones and Antibodies: a Meta-analysis

        The breast and the thyroid are hormone responsive organs that are closely related with changes of endocrine function and glandular disease. An association between thyroid disorders and breast cancer (BC) risk has been suggested, although the results are inconclusive. The purpose of the present study was to summarize evidence supporting a relationship between BC and the level of thyroid hormones and antibodies. The MEDLINE and EMBASE electronic databases were searched for studies published between 2000 and 2014. The pooled effects were presented as weighted mean differences (WMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) using fixed or random effect models. We summarized the results of 8 cross-sectional studies with 4, 189 participants. The overall pooled results showed that the levels of $FT_3$ and $FT_4$ were significantly increased in patients with BC (WMD=1.592 pmol/l; 95% CI: 0.15-3.033 and WMD=0.461 ng/dl; 95% CI: 0.015-0.906; p=0.043). The TPOAb level in patients with BC was higher than that in the control group (WMD=81.4 IU/ml; 95% CI: 78.7-84.0; p=0.000). The overall pooled results of the TgAb with random effects analyses showed that the TgAb level was significantly increased in patients with BC (WMD=101.3 IU/ml; 95% CI: 48.7-153.9; p=0.000). The present results indicated that the serum levels of $FT_3$, TPOAb and TgAb are significantly higher in patients with breast cancer than in healthy controls.

        한ㆍ중 26개 컨테이너 터미널 효율성 비교

        본 연구는 2019년 기준 연간 200만 TEU 이상을 처리하고 있는 한ㆍ중 컨테이너 터미널 26개(한국 6개, 중국 20개)를 대상으로 효율성을 비교하고 효율성 개선방안을 제시하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 기존 연구에 주로 이용된 DEA-CCR모형과 DEA-BCC모형 이외에도 DEA-Super Efficiency 모형을 도입하여 컨테이너 터미널의 효율성을 보다 구체적으로 분석하고 있다. DEA-CCR 모형으로 측정한 기술적(종합) 효율성은 중국 터미널(평균 0.873)이 한국 터미널(평균 0.865)보다 다소 높게 나타났으나, DEA-BCC 모형으로 측정한 순수 기술적 효율성은 한국 터미널(평균 0.926)이 중국 터미널(평균 0.888) 보다 높은 것으로 분석되어 한국은 규모의 효율성을, 중국의 경우 순수 기술적 효율성을 제고하기 위한 노력이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 한편 DEA-Super Efficiency 모형은 중국 YICT의 효율성(1.350)이 가장 높고 한국 KBCT의 효율성(0.607)이 가장 낮다는 것을 보여주고 있다. This study aims to compare the container terminals' efficiency and to suggest how to improve the efficiency with 26 major container terminals in Korea(6) and China(20) which have yearly throughput over two million TEU. Besides DEA-CCR and DEA-BCC models which have been mainly used by early studies, DEA-Super Efficiency model is utilized for more detailed analyses of the terminals' efficiency. DEA-CCR model shows the comprehensive efficiency of Chinese container terminals(average 0.873) is slightly higher than that of Korean terminals(average 0.865). However, with regard to pure technical efficiency measured by DEA-BCC model the Korean container terminals(average 0.926) outweigh the Chinese terminals(average 0.888). Therefore, Korean container terminals should improve their scale efficiency and Chinese terminals should enhance their pure technical efficiency. In addition, DEA-Super Efficiency model indicates that the efficiency of YICT in China(1.350) is the highest among the 26 terminals whereas that of KBCT in Korea(0.607) is the lowest.
