Finite Time Fractional-order Adaptive Backstepping Fault Tolerant Control of Robotic Manipulator
Zeeshan Anjum,Yu Guo 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2021 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.19 No.1
In this paper, fractional calculus theory is employed to inspect a finite time fault tolerant controller forrobotic manipulators in the presence of uncertainties, unknown external load disturbances, and actuator faults, using fractional-order adaptive backstepping approach in order to achieve, fast response and high-precision trackingperformance. Knowing the advantages of adaptive controllers an adaptive form of the above controller is then established to deal with the overall uncertainties in the system. The most important property of the proposed controlleris that we do not need to have knowledge about the actuator fault, external disturbances and system uncertaintiesexist in system. In this study two important achievements are made. The first one is that the finite time convergenceof closed-loop system is ensured irrespective of initial states values. The second one is that the effects of the actuator faults and other uncertainties are attenuated by the suggested controller. The performance of the suggestedcontroller is then tested for a PUMA560 robot in which the first three joints are used. The simulation results validate the usefulness of the suggested finite-time fractional-order adaptive backstepping fault-tolerant (FOAB-FTC)controller in terms of accuracy of tracking, and convergent speed.

This research study presents a novel test fixture for tribocorrosion investigation in the internal dovetail slot of Ti6Al4V specimens. The experiments were carried out at room temperature under cyclic loads of 5 kN and 7.5 kN (R = 0.1) and a constant frequency of 20 Hz using a universal testing machine. Three environments were applied: dry, 3.5 % NaCl and phosphate buffered saline (PBS). Microscopic investigations revealed the presence of oxygen, chlorine and sodium in 3.5 % NaCl environment while phosphorous, chlorine, potassium, sodium and oxygen were observed in PBS environment in addition to the intense coloration, depicting pitting corrosion. Early initiation of the four edge cracks in shear mode, presence of a few minor cracks and longer crack propagations till crack arrest, was observed in corrosive environments. Numerical simulation using finite element analysis software; ABAQUS successfully predicted the mode of crack initiation, location of edge cracks and crack arrest phenomenon.

Piezoelectricity is the capability of a piezoelectric material to change mechanical energy into electrical energy. The determination of electrical and mechanical properties plays a significant role in characterizing the piezoelectric material. The energy losses characteristics of piezoelectric material can be described by mechanical quality factor. In this paper, the output voltage and mechanical quality factor of Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT-4A) piezoelectric material is determined under various resistance and loading conditions by using the test setup. The commercial FEM software ABAQUS is used to analyze the performance of piezoelectric material under static loading conditions. It is observed that these properties affect the performance of a material particularly in the designing of smart structures. The experimental results are partially compared to the simulation values.

Auxetic materials expand in at least one dimension, when stretched longitudinally i.e. they have negative Poisson’s ratio. Development of 2D woven auxetic fabrics (AF) is a new approach to develop mechanically stable auxetic textile structures. However, the mechanical response of such emerging structure is still not studied in detail yet, therefore different mechanical properties of 2D woven AF are compared with conventional non-auxetic fabric (NAF). AF was developed by orienting yarns in auxetic honey-comb (AHC) geometry and auxeticity is induced due to such orientation of yarns. AF was developed using conventional (non-auxetic) materials; cotton yarn and elastane cotton yarn in warp and weft dimension respectively, using air jet loom. Structure and auxeticity of AF were analyzed using a digital microscope and its different mechanical properties (tensile strength, tear strength, bursting strength, cut resistance, and puncture resistance) were studied. AF showed superior mechanical properties with a lower initial modulus, which is beneficial for different protective textiles applications like cut resistance gloves, blast resistant curtains, and puncture tolerant elastomeric composites.

Energy harvesting is the process of attaining energy from the external sources and transforming it into usable electrical energy. An analytical model of piezoelectric energy harvester has been developed to determine the output voltage across an electrical circuit when it is forced to undergo a base excitation. This model gives an easy approach to design and investigate the behavior of piezoelectric material. Numerical simulations have been carried out to determine the effect of frequency and loading on a Lead zirconate titanate (PZT-5A) piezoelectric material. It has been observed that the output voltage from the harvester increases when loading increases whereas its resonance frequency decreases. The analytical results were found to be in good agreement with the experimental and numerical simulation results.

Carbon fiber reinforced aluminum laminates (CARALL) are one of the aluminum based Fiber metal laminates (FMLs) which, due to their high strength to weight ratio and good impact resistance are greatly replacing aluminum alloys in aircraft structures. In this research work, interlaminate shear strength of Vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) manufactured CARALL has been investigated. Numerical simulation model incorporated with real time material data has been developed to predict the delamination behavior of CARALL laminates. Standard CARALL specimens with different surface morphologies were prepared by electric discharge machining, mechanical, chemical and electrochemical surface treatments. T-peel tests were carried out according to standard ASTM D1876-08 to find out inter laminate shear strength. FMLs made out of mechanically, chemically and electrochemically cleaned metal sheets depicted high interlaminate shear strength. SEM micrographs of failed surfaces verify the high adhesive strength of epoxy. Developed numerical simulation model accurately predicts the delamination behavior of CARALL as observed during experimentation.
