      • The comparative study on the contents of education of kindergarten curriculum between Korea and Quebec, Canada

        This is the fundarnental research to prepare for the reorganization of our Kindergarten Curriculurn to the intemational educational reforrn. To accomplish this, Kindergarten curriculurn of Quebec, Canada which is a model for competency based kindergarten curriculurn, and Korean Kindergarten Curriculurn which is revised in 2007, were compared and analyzed. As a result, both curriculurns are categorized into 6 areas according to their sirnilar contents - health and sensory motor, society and emotion, art, language and communication, understanding and exploratory, and project. Second, Quebec presents the concept of competency which is integrated and expanded arnong areas exceeding the functions and practices whereas Korea has the contents with the center of knowledge and functions based on the development of the corresponding area as described below. Third, Quebec focuses on the whole and integrated approaches whereas Korea is airning towards the learning of content in the corresponding area.

        도시지역과 농촌지역의 재난안전에 관한 인식조사 연구

        도시화 산업화로 인하여 도시지역과 농촌지역은 인구 구조, 경제수준, 인프라 등 다양한 특성에서 차이를 보이고 있으나 재난안전대책은 이러한 특성을 반영하지 못하고 있는 것이 현실이다. 다양한 분야에서 도시와 농촌을 비교하는 연구를 실시하고 있지만 재난 및 안전 관리적 측면에서의 연구는 전무한 실정이다. 지역의 재난관리 대책 마련 시 도시지역 및 농촌지역 주민들의 자신이 살고 있는 지역에 대한 체감안전도, 문제점, 요구사항이 무엇인지 파악하고 주민의견을 반영할 필요가 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 도시와 농촌의 재난환경에 관한 이론적 검토를 실시하였으며, 도시지역과 농촌지역에 거주하고 있는 주민들의 재난안전에 대한 인식을 알아보기 위해 주민들에게 재난안전(비구조적요소, 구조적요소, 인적요소, 환경적요소)에 관한 의식조사를 실시하였다. 또한 이를 토대로 향후 도시지역과 농촌지역의 재난관리계획 수립 시 반영사항을 도출하였다. Due to urbanization and industrialization, urban and rural areas show differences in various characteristics such as population structure, economic level and infrastructure, but disaster safety measures do not reflect these characteristics. In this study, the theoretical review on the disaster environments of urban and rural areas was carried out, and the survey of consciousness on disaster and safety(unstructured elements, structured elements, personel elements, environmental elements) targeting the idents was carried out in order to investigate the consciousness of residents in urban and rural areas for disaster safety. Also based on the survey result, the matters to be reflected when establishing a regional disaster management plan in future were drawn.

        Postprandial Glucose, Insulin, and Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Responses in Healthy Adults after Consumption of Chocolate-Products

        Chocolate may affect the glycemic response, which is related the insulin and incretin response. We evaluated the glucose, insulin, and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) responses in male adults after consumption of three commonly consumed chocolates. Furthermore, we assessed the glycemic index (GI), insulin index (II), and glycemic load (GL) of the chocolates. The study protocol was adapted from the International Standard Organization recommendations. Test foods were chocolate A (milky chocolate), chocolate B (creamy chocolate), chocolate C (chocolate ball), and reference food (glucose solution). Glucose, insulin, and GLP-1 concentrations were assessed at 0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, and 120 min after consumption of the test foods. The glycemic responses of the three chocolates were lower than those of the reference food at 30 and 45 min (P<0.001). However, the insulin and GLP-1 responses did not differ between the three chocolates and the reference food. The GI value of chocolates A, B, and C were 39.2, 47.8, and 33.7, respectively; all GI values were lower than that of the reference food. The II values of all test foods were similar, aside for chocolate B (97.9). All chocolates were classified as low-GL. This study showed that glycemic responses depends on the amount of carbohydrates and the physical properties. Further research is required to examine incretin responses and to determine if the type of chocolate can influence metabolic response beyond glycemia.

        Arabidopsis ROP9 and ROP10 GTPases Differentially Regulate Auxin and ABA Responses

        Auxin and abscisic acid (ABA) are major plant hormones that act together to modulate numerous aspects of plant growth and development, including seed germination, primary root elongation, and lateral root formation. In this study, we analyzed the loss-of-function mutants of two closely related ROP (Rho of plants) GTPases, ROP9 and ROP10, and found that these ROP GTPases differentially regulate the auxin and ABA responses. rop9 and rop10 mutations enhanced the ABA-induced suppression of seed germination, primary root growth, and lateral root formation and the expression of ABA-responsive genes, whereas rop9 but not rop10 suppressed auxin-induced root phenotypes and auxin-responsive gene expression. These results suggest that both ROP9 and ROP10 function as negative regulators of ABA signaling, and that ROP9, but not ROP10, functions as a positive regulator of auxin signaling. Previously, ROP-interactive CRIB motif-containing protein 1 (RIC1) was reported to participate in auxin and ABA responses, and to have a similar effect as ROP9 and ROP10 on gene expression, root development, and seed germination. Because RIC proteins mediate ROP GTPase signaling, our results suggest that ROP9 and ROP10 GTPases function upstream of RIC1 in auxin- and ABA-regulated root development and seed germination.

      • Phosphatidylinositol 3- and 4-phosphate modulate actin filament reorganization in guard cells of day flower

        <P>Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinases (PtdIns 3-kinases) that produce phosphatidylinositol (3,4,5) triphosphate (PtdIns(3,4,5)P(3)) are considered to be important regulators of actin dynamics in animal cells. In plants, neither PtdIns(3,4,5)P(3) nor the enzyme that produces this lipid has been reported. However, a PtdIns 3-kinase that produces phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate (PtdIns3P) has been identified, suggesting that PtdIns3P, instead of PtdIns(3,4,5)P(3), regulates actin dynamics in plant cells. Phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase (PtdIns 4-kinase) is closely associated with the actin cytoskeleton in plant cells, suggesting a role for this lipid kinase and its product phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PtdIns4P) in actin-related processes. Here, we investigated whether or not PtdIns3P or PtdIns4P plays a role in actin reorganization induced by a plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) in guard cells of day flower (Commelina communis). ABA-induced changes in actin filaments were inhibited by LY294002 (LY) and wortmannin (WM), inhibitors of PtdIns3P and PtdIns4P synthesis. Expression of PtdIns3P- and PtdIns4P-binding domains also inhibited ABA-induced actin reorganization in a manner similar to LY and WM. These results suggest that PtdIns3P and PtdIns4P regulate actin dynamics in guard cells. Furthermore, we demonstrate that PtdIns3P exerts its effect on actin dynamics, at least in part, via generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in response to ABA.</P>

        <i>Arabidopsis</i> ROP‐interactive CRIB motif‐containing protein 1 (RIC1) positively regulates auxin signalling and negatively regulates abscisic acid (ABA) signalling during root development

        <P><B>ABSTRACT</B></P><P>Auxin and abscisic acid (ABA) modulate numerous aspects of plant development together, mostly in opposite directions, suggesting that extensive crosstalk occurs between the signalling pathways of the two hormones. However, little is known about the nature of this crosstalk. We demonstrate that ROP‐interactive CRIB motif‐containing protein 1 (RIC1) is involved in the interaction between auxin‐ and ABA‐regulated root growth and lateral root formation. RIC1 expression is highly induced by both hormones, and expressed in the roots of young seedlings. Whereas auxin‐responsive gene induction and the effect of auxin on root growth and lateral root formation were suppressed in the <I>ric1</I> knockout, ABA‐responsive gene induction and the effect of ABA on seed germination, root growth and lateral root formation were potentiated. Thus, RIC1 positively regulates auxin responses, but negatively regulates ABA responses. Together, our results suggest that RIC1 is a component of the intricate signalling network that underlies auxin and ABA crosstalk.</P>
