Examination on Fatigue Limit and Crack Growth Characteristic of SBHS700 Base Metal

The object of this study is to clarify fatigue limit and fatigue crack growth characteristic of SBHS700 base metal which is 780 MPa class steel. This study carried out the fatigue tests of SBHS700 base metal containing diff erent defect size, and the fatigue limit was compared with that of the conventional steel. Test results indicate that the fatigue limit increased with decrease initial defect size, and can be precisely evaluated by using √area parameter model. This paper also presents that crack growth characteristic was almost the same as that of the conventional steel from the observation of striations by using Scanning electron microscope and length of beach marks.
WHAT DETERMINES ANIME PILGRIMS’ VISIT INTENTION AND DESTINATION LOYALTY?

Japanese animation, called anime, has long been regarded as a niche culture reserved for ‘nerds’ (otaku) in Japan. The word otaku refers to individuals who spend most of their time alone at home watching anime, reading comics (manga) and/or playing video games. However, in recent years, otaku, or anime viewers, have changed their behavioral patterns, resulting in a new transcultural movement. That peculiar phenomenon is known as anime pilgrimage, which involves traveling to locations that resemble particular scenes in anime pieces, even though the locations themselves may be ordinary places. Research on ordinary tourism has focused mainly on destination attributes as determinants of visit intention/destination loyalty. Research on film tourism places additional emphasis on the role of film involvement. We focus here on social influences. The results of structured regression analyses show that our new models were superior to previous models that omitted investigation of social influences. Furthermore, the results show that though, during the pre-trip period “within home”, anime nerds may expect that they will interact primarily with other nerds, they enjoy interactions with the local people while traveling. Such transcultural experiences result in higher destination loyalty during the post-trip period “beyond home”.
Fatigue Strength Improvement of Welded Joints of Existing Steel Bridges by Shot-Peening

Shot-peening recently can be applied to existing steel bridges due to the development of new vacuuming techniques of shots after peening in the construction site. This study experimentally investigates eff ects of fatigue strength improvement of shot-peening on welded joints. Bending fatigue tests using out-of-plane gusset welded joints specimens were carried out and three type specimens were compared: as-welded, grit-blasted, and shot-peened. In addition, this paper examines diff erences of fatigue strength improvement eff ects in case of applying shot-peening to inside of scallop where shots might be diffi cult to hit perpendicularly to weld toe of welded joints because of narrow space, and the residual stress measurement in order to clarify introducing compressive residual stress were carried out. As a result, it may be concluded that shot-peening can improve fatigue strength of welded joints and its mechanism was identifi ed as extension of crack initiation life and delay crack propagation due to benefi cial compressive residual stress in the vicinity of surface layer.

This study experimentally investigates eff ect of fatigue strength improvement of the Portable Pneumatic Needle-Peening treatment (PPP treatment) as a needle peening on out-of-plane gusset welded joints by using plate bending fatigue tests. This study also examined eff ect of the travel speed and the number of treatment passes of the PPP treatment with regards to its fatigue strength improvement. After the fatigue tests, the observation of the fracture surface with Scanning Electron Microscope was carried out in order to clarify the crack initiation. From those test results, it may be concluded that the eff ect of fatigue strength improvement might be governed by treatment passes with suffi cient travel speed. In addition, this study carried out additional fatigue tests that focus on fatigue crack closer by using the PPP treatment. As a result of additional fatigue tests for fatigue crack closure, it might be said that the eff ect of fatigue crack closure is eff ective when the distance between fatigue cracks and treatment area is less than 2.0 mm.
Efficacy of holmium laser enucleation in patients with a small (less than 30 mL) prostate volume

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) in patients with a small prostate volume (≤30 mL). Materials and Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 1,135 patients who underwent HoLEP at two institutions between July 2007 and March 2020. Patients who were not evaluated for the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) before or after HoLEP were excluded. We divided patients into two groups according to estimated prostate volume (ePV): ≤30 (n=198) and >30 mL (n=539). The patient characteristics, IPSS, peak urinary flow rate (Qmax), postvoid residual urine volume (PVR), and other data were compared before and after surgery in each group and between the two groups. Multivariate analysis was performed to identify the factors associated with the efficacy of HoLEP in the group with ePV ≤30 mL. Results: A total of 737 patients were included in this retrospective study. ePV (23.4 mL vs. 50 mL; p<0.001) and PVR differed significantly between the two groups. The IPSS, IPSS-quality of life, PVR, and Qmax significantly improved after HoLEP in both groups. Improvements in the IPSS, IPSS-quality of life, Qmax, and PVR were greater in the >30 mL group (p<0.001), whereas operation time and morcellation time were significantly shorter in the ≤30 mL group. In the multivariate analysis, age <70 years was independently associated with improvement by HoLEP. Conclusions: HoLEP is an effective treatment for patients with a small prostate, even though the extent of improvement after HoLEP was greater in those with a larger prostate.

The Role of Home-Based Care Managers in Japan

Surveys were conducted to study the role and function of care managers (CMs) in Japan` s long-term care insurance system by examining work hours and subjective evaluations. Between October and December 2011, we used a self-report time study method with 745 CMs in 308 home-based care management agencies and received responses from 373 people in 153 businesses (50.1% response rate). By performing cluster analysis based on the values of necessity, burden, and achievement in the subjective evaluations of the CMs` duties, we were able to classify 16 duties into two groups; cluster 1 included conclusion of contracts, in-service/seminars, staff supervision, patients` rights advocacy, complaint resolution, direct/nursing care activities, quality improvement activities and facility administration-related activities, and cluster 2 included pre-admission consultations, assessment, care planning activities, team management, consultation, cooperation with the community, indirect care activities, and other. Cluster 2 had a greater rate of occurrence than cluster 1, and more time was spent on these duties. In addition, necessity was higher in cluster 2 than in cluster 1, although burden and achievement were lower. The duties in cluster 2 are consistent with the role of CMs required under the long-term care insurance system. Eleven years of practice have passed since the birth of care management along with the long-term care insurance system; CMs are recognizing the necessity of these duties as realities confronting them become apparent, and the CMs` role has been clarified. The duty with the highest necessity and achievement was patients` rights advocacy. Complaint resolution had the highest burden. In terms of the CMs` role, the possibility of further proactive involvement in patients` rights advocacy and improving the ability to cope with complaint resolution could lead to a reduced burden on CMs.

Background: Mutations in the quinolone resistance-determining regions (QRDRs) of Acinetobacter baumannii DNA gyrase (gyrA) and topoisomerase IV (parC) are linked to fluoroquinolone (FQ) resistance. We developed a mismatched PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) assay to detect mutations in the gyrA and parC QRDRs associated with FQ resistance in A. baumannii. Methods: Based on the conserved sequences of A. baumannii gyrA and parC, two primer sets were designed for mismatched PCR-RFLP to detect mutations in gyrA (codons 83 and 87) and parC (codons 80 and 84) by introducing an artificial restriction enzyme cleavage site into the PCR products. This assay was evaluated using 58 A. baumannii strains and 37 other Acinetobacter strains that have been identified by RNA polymerase β-subunit gene sequence analysis. Results: PCR amplification of gyrA and parC was successful for all A. baumannii strains. In 11 FQ -susceptible strains, the gyrA and parC PCR products were digested by the selected restriction enzymes at the site containing gyrA (codons 83 and 87) and parC (codons 80 and 84). PCR products from 47 FQ-resistant strains containing mutations in gyrA and parC were not digested by the restriction enzymes at the site containing the mutation. As for the non-baumannii Acinetobacter strains, although amplification products for gyrA were obtained for 28 strains, no parC amplification product was obtained for any strain. Conclusions: This assay specifically amplified gyrA and parC from A. baumannii and detected A. baumannii gyrA and parC mutations with FQ resistance.
