      • The Improvement of the Design Standard of Overloaded Highway

Dou Yuanming,Zhang Jingjing,Hu Chao 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.10 No.2

With the development of the transportation industry, the trend of overload is obviously, design load of highway bridges needs to be improved. Based on the field investigation and data analysis, this study modifies the design standers of highway. The regularities on characteristics of models, vehicle weight and the distribution of axle load and spacing were studied. Using the Matlab programming language and the Monte Carlo numerical simulation method to simulate a random traffic model, then loaded on simple bridges and continuous bridges with different span in order to calculate bending effect. The data were compared with the first level in highway load code and proposed the load increase parameters: when the span is less than 20 m, then use 1.2 times the standard specification in bridge design; in other situation, use 1.3 times the standard factor. Analyzing the characteristic of the vehicle load, can not only give technical parameters for the quantitative analysis of overloading traffic effects on the fatigue damage of bridge, but also provide a reference for bridge design units and the operation management department. So it has great realistic significance and research value.

Simulation of Nonstationary Process Using Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition and Empirical Envelope Methods

Yajun Zhao,Yuanming Dou 대한토목학회 2020 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.24 No.11

A simulation method for nonstationary process is proposed based on the ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) and the empirical envelope (EE) methods: the EEMD is used to decompose a nonstationary process into several mono-component signals, and then the EE method is utilized to calculate the instantaneous characteristics of these mono-component signals; a simulated process can be constructed based on the distributions of the instantaneous characteristics of the mono-component signals. An earthquake ground motion recorded in chi-chi earthquake and a nonstationary wind speed induced by typhoon Rammasun are utilized to verify the accuracy and efficacy of the newly-developed method. Results show that: the EE method performs much better than the Hilbert transform (HT)-based method in calculating the instantaneous frequency; the proposed method can successfully capture the global and transient energy distributions of a nonstationary process; the nonstationary wind speed can be modeled as a uniformly modulated nonstationary process, while the earthquake ground motion should be modeled as a non-uniformly modulated nonstationary process. The proposed method does not include any pre-assumed modulation function or inappropriate assumption such as piece-wise stationarity. The method is applicable to the simulation of various types of nonstationary processes, and it can be extended to simulate multivariate nonstationary processes.

      • Load Spectrum and Fatigue Life Computer Analysis of Prestressed Concrete Bridges

Xin Qin,Dou Yuanming,Chen Wan 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.9 No.7

With respect to fatigue damage of heavy traffic on the bridge structure, this paper studied on load spectrum and fatigue simulation. The author used manual recording, live cameras, vehicle dynamic weighing system (WIM) to conduct traffic investigation in a continuous 24-hour period. Basing on these data in Hebei province, we established typical vehicle load spectrum using probabilistic and statistical methods, and deduced a standard fatigue vehicle model on this basis. Then we prepared random load spectrum by MATLAB and realized loading it on a finite element model (FEM). Next, the paper assessed the fatigue life of in-service highway bridges that in Hebei by comparing typical vehicle load and random vehicle load. Results showed that vehicle speed has significant influence on fatigue damage under typical vehicle load. Equivalent stress amplitude is small in two operational states under random vehicle load, the general operation state and intensive operation state. Fatigue damage to bridge under general operation is obvious. After verified the applicability of the standard fatigue vehicle model, we can believe that this model developed in this article can be further used as a reference to check highway fatigue damage in the entire Hebei province. Moreover, all the results showed that the bridges wouldn’t get fatigue failure under a normal operation state when there is no impact of environmental factors.
