On the monitoring of the technological opportunities using patent information
Youngjung Geum,Jeonghwan Jeon,Hyeonju Seol 한국경영과학회 2010 한국경영과학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2010 No.6
Responding to the needs for objective and data-driven method for technology monitoring, this study provides the systematic method to identify the technological opportunities using the novelty detection technique. Employing the novelty detection, this paper provides the objective evidences for new technological opportunities by identifying the novel data as well as novel attribute. This paper comprises of four main parts. Firstly, as a preliminary step, patent information is collected and preprocessed. Secondly, a patent-keyword matrix is constructed based on text mining technique. Following on the keyword matrix, clustering analysis is conducted to identify the current technological trend. As the final step, a novelty detection technique is applied to identify the technological opportunities. A case study for laser lithography technology is conducted to illustrate the working of proposed approach.

Fast Domain Decomposition for Global Image Smoothing
Youngjung Kim,Dongbo Min,Bumsub Ham,Kwanghoon Sohn IEEE 2017 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON IMAGE PROCESSING - Vol.26 No.8
<P>Edge-preserving smoothing (EPS) can be formulated as minimizing an objective function that consists of data and regularization terms. At the price of high-computational cost, this global EPS approach is more robust and versatile than a local one that typically has a form of weighted averaging. In this paper, we introduce an efficient decomposition-based method for global EPS that minimizes the objective function of L-2 data and (possibly non-smooth and non-convex) regularization terms in linear time. Different from previous decomposition-based methods, which require solving a large linear system, our approach solves an equivalent constrained optimization problem, resulting in a sequence of 1-D sub-problems. This enables applying fast linear time solver for weighted-least squares and -L-1 smoothing problems. An alternating direction method of multipliers algorithm is adopted to guarantee fast convergence. Our method is fully parallelizable, and its runtime is even comparable to the state-of-the-art local EPS approaches. We also propose a family of fast majorization-minimization algorithms that minimize an objective with non-convex regularization terms. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and flexibility of our approach in a range of image processing and computational photography applications.</P>
A mobile phone guide: spatial, personal, and social experience for cultural heritage
Youngjung Suh,Choonsung Shin,Woontack Woo IEEE 2009 IEEE transactions on consumer electronics Vol.55 No.4
<P>We have built a mobile phone-based guide system to strengthen the user experience in a cultural heritage site by supporting spatial awareness, personalization, and social connectedness. Our mobile phone guide implemented on a Java-enabled mobile phone provides both audio and visual content that is tailored by tracking user movement with GPS, collecting various user inputs and demographics, and allowing for socially acceptable eavesdropping via wireless networking. We applied our system to a cemetery site and present the results of a user study. We also conducted a performance evaluation to verify the effectiveness of both content filtering in personalization and content synchronization in social connectedness. Spatially, our results validated that our system provided a satisfying physical exploration of historic space. With respect to personalization, the content presented to visitors was well tailored to their real-time feedback over the course of their visit. Socially, the effectiveness of our sharing interface motivated visitors to frequently synchronize content among themselves. Our system will hopefully broaden the appeal of mobile phones as electronic tour guides providing adequate support for spatial awareness, personalization, and shared group experiences.</P>

This study examined the bibliographical characteristics of Hyangyak Jipseongbang that was compiled in the 15th century (1433) and continued to publish throughout the early period of Joseon Dynasty. Various existing records and the early Joseon printed edition of Hyangyak Jipseongbang stored in a domestic Sancheong Korean Medicine Museum were reviewed from 3 perspectives as follows. First, it is the bibliographical system approach to Hyangyak Jipseongbang for some circumstances related to its compilation and publication. Second, it is the significance in terms of printing history through the analysis of bibliographical characteristics and the status of the remaining Hyangyak Jipseongbang. Particularly, the period of publication is an important factor to determine the value of a book. In this respect, most of the extant early-Joseon editions of Hyangyak Jipseongbang seem to have been published during the ruling years of King Sung Jong. Those editions are expected to have distinctive meaning from other copied editions of the 17th century. Last, it is bibliographical orignal analysis of Hyangyak Jipseongbang. This study reviewed the contents and composition of Vol. 49 through 51 of Hyangyak Jipseongbang stored in Sancheong Korean Medicine Museum in an attempt to help understand the textual bibliography and composition system of exhibiting editions.
