        한국 서해산 돌가자미, Kareius bicoloratus의 성 성숙

        1998년 1월부터 12월까지 한국 서해안 충청남도 격렬비열도 해역에서 채집된 돌 가자미, Kareius bicoloratus를 대상으로 생식기구 연구를 위해 생식소중량지수(GSI), 비만도지수(CF), 간중량지수(HSI), 생식주기, 생식소 발달의 변화 등을 조직학적 방법에 의해 조사하였다. 생식소중량지수(GSI)의 월별변화는 암컷과 수컷에서 일장이 길고 고수온기인 7~8월을 지나 수온이 하강되고 일장 짧아지기 시작하는 9월부터 증가되기 시작하여 연중 일장이 가장 짧고 저수온기인 11~1월에 최대값을 보였다. 간중량지수(HSI)의 월별변화는 암컷에서 GSI의 증감의 변화에 유사하게 나타났다. 비만도는 성장기인 9월에 최대값을 나타내었고, 산란기에는 낮은 값을 보였다. 생식주기는 암컷의 경우, 성장전기(8월), 성장후기(8~10월), 성숙기(10~11월), 완숙 및 방란기(11~2월), 퇴화 및 휴지기(2월~7월)로 나눌 수 있었으며, 수컷의 경우는 성장기(8~10월), 성숙기(10~11월), 완숙 및 방정기(11~1월), 퇴화 및 휴지기(2~7월)로 구분할 수 있었다. 군성숙도 조사에서 5-% 이상 산란에 참여하는 크기는 암컷 전장 20~25㎝, 수컷 15.0~20.0㎝이었으며, 100%전 개체가 산란에 참여하는 크기는 암컷 30㎝ 이상, 수컷 20㎝ 이상으로 웅성선숙 현상이 나타났다. 암 ? 수 성비는 통계적으로 1 : 1이었으며, 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다(ㅌ^(2) = 0.15, P>0.05). Gonadosomatic index (GSI), the hepatosomatic index (HSI), condition factor (CF), reproductive cycle, first sexual maturity, and sex ratio were investigated by histological study and morphometric data. Specimens of K. bicoloratus were collected from the coastal waters of Gyeongryelbiyeoldo, Chungnam Province, Korea, from January to December 1998. Monthly variation of the GSI in females and males began to increase between October and November when the ovary and testis were maturing, and their values reached the maximum between December and January, when spawning occurred during the winter season of shorter day length and low water temperature. Monthly variations of the HSI showed a negative correlation with those of the GSI. Condition factors in females and males were higher between October and November (mature stage), and their values sharply decreased after spawning. Monthly changes in condition factors closely correlated with the reproductive cycle. The reproductive cycle of this species can be divided into five successive stages: in females, early growing (August), late growing (August to October), mature (October to November), ripe and spent (December to January), and recovery and resting stages (February to July); in males it can be classified into four successive stages: growing (August to October), mature (October to November), ripe and spent (November to January), and recovery and resting stages (February to July). Percentages of first sexual maturity in females and males were 50% at 20.0-25.0 ㎝ and 15.0-20.0 ㎝, respectively, and 100% at over 30.0 ㎝ and over 20.0 ㎝, respectively. The sex ratios of individuals were not statistically different from 1 : 1 (χ² = 1.64, p > 0.05).

        The relationship of bone mineral density and type of physical exercise was studied in 36 Postmenoposal Women(age 48-57). The exercise group consisted of Weight training([ =9), Aerobic dance(N=8), Swimming(N=9) and the control group consisted of 10 women. Bone mineral density was measured Lumber(L2-L4), Femur neck, Ward's triangle bone density. The results statstically analyzed on these data were summarized as follows: first, Lumber (L2-L4) bone density, Femoral neck bone density, Ward's triangle bone density in Weight training group was significantly higher than in Swimming group and Control group. Secondly, Lumber(L2-L4) bone density, Femoral neck bone density, Ward's triangle bone density in Aerobic dance group was significantly higher than in Swimming group and control group. Thirdly, No significant difference were round for Lumber(L2-L4) bone density, Femoral neck bone density in Weight training group and Aerobic dance group.

        시설거주 노인의 연령과 성별에 따른 신체구성, 하지근력 및 심혈관 변인의 분석

        The aim of this study is to compare and analyze the body composition, leg strength and cardiovascular variable for the elderly who are in residential aged care facilities according to sex and age. A total of sixty-nine subjects between 65 to 85 who inhabit in Silver Tower, fee charging facilities for the elderly, were invited to participate. Four groups were formed; a young-old men Group (YMG, n= 31), a young-old woman Group (YWG , n = 22), an old-old men Group (OMG, n= 8). Variables of Body composition (Ht, Wt, BMW, BF, BF%, BMI)were measured through Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis(BIA). Variables of leg strength (60%PTFx, 60%PTEt, 180%PTFx, 180%PTEt) were measured by isokineic devices Cybex 6000. Cardiovascular Variables (RHR, RSBP, RDBP, MHR, MSBP, MDBP) were measured through sub-maximal test applied by Modified Bruce Protocol. All data were expressed by using One-way ANOVA in order to compare between 4 groups. Significance level(a) was 0.05. Ht and BMW of body composition variables between groups showed that YMG and OMG were high. There was statistical significance according to sex (p<.05). BF and BF% from comparison between groups turned up higher for YWG and OWG. There was statistical significance according to sex as well (p<.05). BMI from comparison between groups turned up higher at YWG. There was statistical significance according to sex and age (p<.05). All data of cardiovascular variables showed that there was not statistical significance according to sex and age. 60%PTFx and 60%PTEt of all leg strength variables between groups showed that YMG and OMG were high. There was statistical significance according to sex (p<.05). It showed that there was no statistical significance in 60%PTFx and 60%PTEt of all leg strength variables between groups. In conclusion, it is expected that body composition and leg strength variables for the elderly are so different according to sex and age that the life expectancy of the elderly will increase more. The more detailed studies are needed in future.

      • Fracture Behavior of Plasma-Sprayed Thermal Barrier Coatings with Different Bond Coats upon Cyclic Thermal Exposure

        <P>The effects of bond coat nature in thermal barrier coating (TBC) systems on the delamination or fracture behavior of the TBCs with different bond coats prepared using two different processes-air plasma spray (APS) and high velocity oxyfuel (HVOF)-were investigated by cyclic thermal fatigue tests. The TBCs with the HVOF bond coat were delaminated or fractured after 3-6 cycles, whereas those with the APS bond coat were delaminated after 10 cycles or show a sound condition. These results indicate that the TBC system with the APS bond coat has better thermal durability than the system with the HVOF bond coat under long-term cyclic thermal exposure. The hardness values of the TBCs (top coats) in both systems are dependent on applied loads, irrespective of the hardness of the bond coats and the substrate. The values are not responded to the bond coat nature or the exposure time. Thermally grown oxide (TGO) layers in both cases consist of two regions with the inner TGO layer containing only Al2O3 and the outer TGO layer of mixed-oxide zone containing Ni, Co, Cr, Al in Al2O3 matrix. The outer TGO layer has a more irregular shape than the inner TGO layer, and there are many pores within the outer layer. At failure, the TGO thickness of the TBC system with the HVOF bond coat is 9-13 m, depending on the total exposed time, and that of the TBC system with the APS bond coat is about 20 m. The both TBC systems show the diffusion layer on the side of substrate in the interface between the bond coat and the substrate. The relationship between the delamination or fracture behavior and the bond coat nature has been discussed, based on the elemental analysis and microstructural evaluation.</P>

        Clinical Practice Guideline of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

        There is no well-stated practical guideline for mechanically ventilated patients with or without acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). We generate strong (1) and weak (2) grade of recommendations based on high (A), moderate (B) and low (C) grade in the quality of evidence. In patients with ARDS, we recommend low tidal volume ventilation (1A) and prone position if it is not contraindicated (1B) to reduce their mortality. However, we did not support high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (1B) and inhaled nitric oxide (1A) as a standard treatment. We also suggest high positive end-expiratory pressure (2B), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation as a rescue therapy (2C), and neuromuscular blockage for 48 hours after starting mechanical ventilation (2B). The application of recruitment maneuver may reduce mortality (2B), however, the use of systemic steroids cannot reduce mortality (2B). In mechanically ventilated patients, we recommend light sedation (1B) and low tidal volume even without ARDS (1B) and suggest lung protective ventilation strategy during the operation to lower the incidence of lung complications including ARDS (2B). Early tracheostomy in mechanically ventilated patients can be performed only in limited patients (2A). In conclusion, of 12 recommendations, nine were in the management of ARDS, and three for mechanically ventilated patients.

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background</B></P> <P>Titanium dioxide (TiO<SUB>2</SUB>) films have superior biocompatibility and may be effective as drug-binding matrices for drug-eluting stents (DESs). We sought to evaluate efficacy of a polymer-free DES coated with everolimus using nitrogen-doped TiO<SUB>2</SUB> film deposition in a porcine coronary restenosis model.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>Forty coronary arteries in 20 pigs were randomly allocated to group 1 (bare-metal stents (BMSs), 3.0×18mm, n=10), group 2 (BMSs with nitrogen-doped TiO<SUB>2</SUB> film deposition, 3.0×18mm, n=10), group 3 [commercial everolimus-eluting stent, 3.0×18mm, n=10], and group 4 (polymer-free everolimus-eluting stent using nitrogen-doped TiO<SUB>2</SUB> film deposition, 3.0×18mm, n=10). Stents were randomly implanted in the left anterior descending coronary artery and left circumflex artery with stent:artery ratio of 1.3. Four weeks later, pigs underwent follow-up coronary angiography and were sacrificed for histopathologic analysis.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>Percent area stenosis was greater in group 1 compared to groups 3 and 4 (46.4±13.8% vs. 30.2±11.7% vs. 29.2±8.9%, respectively, p=0.005). Fibrin score was lower in groups 1 and 2, compared to groups 3 and 4: 0.87±0.67 vs. 0.76±0.61 vs. 2.27±0.24 vs. 1.75±0.31, respectively, p<0.001). Injury score and inflammation score were not different. Comparison between DES showed a higher fibrin score in group 3 than group 4 (2.27±0.24 vs. 1.75±0.31, p=0.023).</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>In a porcine model of coronary restenosis, a novel polymer-free DES using nitrogen-doped TiO<SUB>2</SUB> film deposition shows higher biocompatibility and compares favorably with a commercial DES.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> TiO<SUB>2</SUB> films may be effective as drug-binding matrices for drug-eluting stents (DESs). </LI> <LI> Polymer-free DES using nitrogen-doped TiO<SUB>2</SUB> film shows higher biocompatibility. </LI> <LI> Further research is needed for longer-term effect of TiO<SUB>2</SUB> polymer-free DESs. </LI> </UL> </P>

        A majority of studies have demonstrated that regular physical activity and exercise training decrease cardiac mortality and all cause mortality, the recurrence of nonfatal myocardial infarction, and the necessity of revascularization procedures. aerobic exercise may be strongly dependent on clinical presentation and was more frequent in patients with CAD Cardiopulmonary cardiac rehabilitation is a comprehensive program of exercise and education that helps patients with heart disease return to their former daily lives, and furthermore, maintain their physical, emotional and socially healthy and productive lives. Cardiac rehabilitation programs include aerobic exercise therapy, behavior modification, lifestyle and stress management, adjustment of other risk factors. The goal is to reduce the incidence of heart disease and delay or prevent disease progression, ultimately increasing the quality of life of the patient and lowering the mortality rate. It has also been shown to improve exercise capacity, psychological functioning, and risk factor management. Patients with cardiovascular disease can safely exercise observing a few instructions. For this, exercise tests need to be done to identify the risk of heart attack resulting from exercise, and high-risk patients need to be under a doctor’s supervision while performing exercise training for a certain time. In contrast, low-risk patients can receive exercise prescriptions with basic instructions for exercise training to exercise in their homes. It i s important that e xercise b ecomes a regular part o f patients p astime a ctivity in o rder t o continuously see the effects of cardio-protection from exercise.
