      • Modeling of Human Postures Using Stereo Camera

        This paper proposes an automatic human posture acquisition technique by a robot. Decrease of working population will be a vital problem in our society. Escaping from the work in danger is also important for a human being to raise QOL. To solve all theses issues, it may be quite useful to realize a robot which works in place of a human. Based on this background, our research aims at making a technique for a robot to acquire various human postures/motions automatically. In this paper, a technique is presented for obtaining human postures automatically by employing a human skeleton model and a stereo camera system. Performance of the technique is shown experimentally.

        The improvement progress of power MOSFETs is eviewed in breakdown voltage, on-resistance and high requency capabilities.<br/> As a detailed issue, low on-resistance and high Reliability techniques for scaled-down cell structure power MOSFETs are discussed. Cell structure is optimized by three-dimensional computer analysis. The _hin gate oxide is protected using a polysilicon brotection diode. As a result, planar devices with a breakdown voltage of 50V and a specific on-resistance of 150 mohm-mm2 and 30V and 70 mohm-mm2 are realized.

      • Design and Synthesis of Active Compounds with Plant Hormonal Function

        1. Helminthosporic acid analogs Helminthosporic acid (HA, 1) and its related compounds have been known to show gibberellin (GA)-like activites in a-amylase induction and elongation of rice shoots. These activities were suggested some roles of structural resemblance between HA and the C/D ring system in GA. We have made analogs of HA in order to confirm structural factors for the GA-like activities. One of the isomer of 14-nor-α-hydroxy HA was found to be very active in α-amylase induction tests. But 14-nor-α-hydroxy HA did not show the α-amylase induction at all, therefore the carbon skeleton of HA might play less important roles for this activity. 2. Abscisic acid analogs In a solution, cis-abscisic acid (ABA, 2) isomerized into the traps-isomer which is physiologically inactive, and this instability is regarded as a reason for insuitability of ABA in agricultural applications. The side chain of ABA, the 2-cis-4-trans-3-methyl-2,4-pentadienoic moiety, was replaced with various substituted phenyl groups to examine biological effects of the inflexibility of the part. Construction of the phenyl moiety was achieved by cyclizing the ionone derivatives and subsequent aromatization. Some of those analogs showed ABA-like activity in both seed germination and transpiration assays.

        Albino 담배 변이체의 기내 생장과 기내 분화의 특성

        수분후 담배의 배에 중이온 beam ($^{14}$ N)을 조사하여 얻은 종자로부터 albino식물체를 분리하여 기내 생장과 분화의 특성을 검토하였다. 기내에서 생장시킨 albino식물체는 엽록소함량이 급격한 감소를 나타내었고 기공수는 잎의 이면 및 표면 표피에서 녹색 식물체 보다 많았다 연속광 조건하의 탄소원을 첨가한 MS배지에서 albino개체는 절간이 신장하지 않았으나 10.0mg/L 의 GA$_3$처리로 절간신장이 회복되었다. 잎절편 배양시 albino식물체는 1.0 mg/L 의 BAP와 kinetin의 단용처리로 다수의 신초를 형성하였고, 1.0mg/L의 2,4-D와 NAA의 단용처리로 다량의 캘러스를 형성하였다. 잎절편에서 유도된 albino 캘러스에 1.0mg/L BAP+0.1mg/L NAA를 혼용처리하면 다수의 식물체가 재분화 되었다. 이와같이 albino 식물체는 다경줄기 형성, 캘러스 형성, 캘러스로부터 재분화율 등이 녹색 식물체와 차이가 없었다. 또한 NAA와 BAP를 혼용처리 하였을 때 잎절편으로부터 기관분화의 유형도 정상주와 비슷하였다. 이러한 결과는 본 albino담배 변이체가 색소체 함량의 급감과 같은 광합성과 관련된 기능에서는 결손을 보이고 있음에도 불구하고 조직수준의 기관분화계에는 이상이 없다는 것을 시사한다. The albino plants of tobacco (Nicotiana tobacum L. cv. BY-4) were isolated from seed populations that were induced by heavy-ion ($^{14}N$) beam irradiation to proembryo and the in vitro growth and differentiation have been characterized. The in vitro cultured albino plants showed significant reduction of chlorophyll content and possessed larger number of stomata on both upper and lower epidermis than that of wild-type plants. Stem growth of the mutants remained dwarfed, however, the internode recovered its normal length after GA$_3$ treatment (10.0mg/L) on the MS medium containing sucrose under continuous light. When explants of leaf blades of albino plants were cultured, multiple shoots formed directly on MS medium containing 1.0mg/L of BAP or kinetin and a large number of calli were induced on the MS medium containing 1.0mg/L NAA or 1.0 mg/L 2,4-D. The albino calli regenerated multiple albino plantlets in the MS medium containing 0.1mg/L NAA + 1.0 mg/L BAP. No significant differences between the wild-type and albino plants were detected in the multiple shoot induction, callus formation from the explants and the plantlets regeneration from calli. In addition, albino plants have a similar organogenesis Pattern to that of the wild-type in the media with different combinations of NAA (0 to 5.0mg/L) and BAP (0 to 5.0mg/L) treatment. These results indicate that the albino mutant has the same normal regeneration ability as that of wild-type, although the mutant has lost functions in photosynthesis, such as pigmentation.

      • CYP90C1 and CYP90D1 are involved in different steps in the brassinosteroid biosynthesis pathway in <i>Arabidopsis thaliana</i>

        <P>Summary</P><P>Brassinosteroids (BRs) are plant hormones that are essential for a wide range of developmental processes in plants. Many of the genes responsible for the early reactions in the biosynthesis of BRs have recently been identified. However, several genes for enzymes that catalyze late steps in the biosynthesis pathways of BRs remain to be identified, and only a few genes responsible for the reactions that produce bioactive BRs have been identified. We found that the <I>ROTUNDIFOLIA3</I> (<I>ROT3</I>) gene, encoding the enzyme CYP90C1, which was specifically involved in the regulation of leaf length in <I>Arabidopsis thaliana</I>, was required for the late steps in the BR biosynthesis pathway. ROT3 appears to be required for the conversion of typhasterol to castasterone, an activation step in the BR pathway. We also analyzed the gene most closely related to <I>ROT3</I>, <I>CYP90D1</I>, and found that double mutants for <I>ROT3</I> and <I>CYP90D1</I> had a severe dwarf phenotype, whereas <I>cyp90d1</I> single knockout mutants did not. BR profiling in these mutants revealed that CYP90D1 was also involved in BR biosynthesis pathways. <I>ROT3</I> and <I>CYP90D1</I> were expressed differentially in leaves of <I>A. thaliana</I>, and the mutants for these two genes differed in their defects in elongation of hypocotyls under light conditions. The expression of <I>CYP90D1</I> was strongly induced in leaf petioles in the dark. The results of the present study provide evidence that the two cytochrome P450s, CYP90C1 and CYP90D1, play distinct roles in organ-specific environmental regulation of the biosynthesis of BRs.</P>

        Experimental and Numerical Studies on the Possibility of Duct Flow Low-power Generation Using a Butterfly Wind Turbine

        An objective of this study is to demonstrate the validity of using a small wind turbine to recover the fluid energy flowing out of an exhaust duct for the generation of power. In these experiments, a butterfly wind turbine of a vertical axis type (D = 0.4 m) is used. The output performance is measured at various locations relative to the exit of a small wind tunnel (W = 0.65 m), representing the performance expected in an exhaust duct flow. Two-dimensional numerical analysis qualitatively agrees with the experimental results for the wind turbine power coefficient and rate of energy recovery. When the turbine is far from the duct exit (more than 2.5 D), an energy recovery rate of approximately 1.3% is obtained.

        NADH - ubiquinone oxidoreductase 저해제인 quinoline 유도체들의 생리활성

        New quinoline compounds were designed, synthesized, and examined with sub mitochondria. Most compounds showed high activity against NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase. Inhibition activity was mainly affected by the length of the lipophilic part, regardless of bulkiness or to ration of a phenyl group in the side chain. The β-methyl group was demonstrated to be the optimal functionality on tire nuclei of the quinoline derivatives so that either deletion or insertion of a methyiene on the group eliminated its activity(Received January 25, 1991, Accepted Mach 25, 1991).
