The municipal solid waste in China is increasing at an unprecedented pace due to the upgrading urbanization and improving living standard. The waste-to-energy (WTE) incineration technology offers a viable and potentially profitable technical solution to this booming phenomenon. The highly complex and systematic nature of WTE technologies have led to the emergence of WTE innovation network in the past decade. This study applies complex network theory as well as social network analysis to investigate the social network structure evolution of WTE technologies in terms of global network properties, major actors’ centrality and collaboration relationships. Based on the data-set covering joint filing patents pertaining to waste heat over the period 2006–2015, this study finds that the overall WTE innovation network exhibits the properties of scale-free network with minority organizations linking to abundant organizations. A large fraction of major actors represent the first-movers in the WTE research and still control the technological trajectories. The collaboration relationships have moved toward higher level of multidisciplinary and larger technological distance. Overall, the evolution of WTE innovation network features a young state of industry with high regime dependence. Finally, some suggestions are proposed to shed light on benign development of WTE innovation network.
An architecture of lifecycle fatigue management of steel bridges driven by Digital Twin
Jiang, Fei,Ding, Youliang,Song, Yongsheng,Geng, Fangfang,Wang, Zhiwen Techno-Press 2021 Structural monitoring and maintenance Vol.8 No.2
The fatigue of steel bridges poses a great threat to their safety and functionality. However, current approaches for fatigue management are largely based on heuristic design philosophies, physical testing, and bridge managers' experience. This paper proposes a closed lifecycle fatigue management driven by Digital Twin for steel bridges. To provide clarity around the concept, the definition of Digital Twin for steel bridges is given at first. Then eight functional modules supporting Digital Twin are outlined in detail, aiming to provide a reference for the future development of Digital Twin in fatigue management. Finally, the implementation mechanism of Digital Twin is further described over different phases during the bridge lifecycle. This paper also identifies two main obstacles for the development of Digital Twin: i) the lack of understanding of steel bridge fatigue, and ii) the insufficiency of the present technologies.

In this paper, the abdominal-deformation measurement scheme is conducted on a shape-flexible mannequin using the DIC technique in a stereo-vision system. Firstly, during the integer-pixel displacement search, a novel fractal dimension based on an adaptive-ellipse subset area is developed to track an integer pixel between the reference and deformed images. Secondly, at the subpixel registration, a new mutual-learning adaptive particle swarm optimization (MLADPSO) algorithm is employed to locate the subpixel precisely. Dynamic adjustments of the particle flight velocities that are according to the deformation extent of each interest point are utilized for enhancing the accuracy of the subpixel registration. A test is performed on the abdominal-deformation measurement of the shape-flexible mannequin. The experiment results indicate that under the guarantee of its measurement accuracy without the cause of any loss, the time-consumption of the proposed scheme is significantly more efficient than that of the conventional method, particularly in the case of a large number of interest points.
