The characteristics of genistin-induced inhibitory effects on intestinal motility

        Yong-jian Xiong,Da-peng Chen,Bo-chao Lv,Fang-fei Liu,Li Wang,Yuan Lin 대한약학회 2013 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.36 No.3

Genistin belongs to isoflavones. Based on thefacts that genistin exerts inhibitory effects on the contractilityof vascular smooth muscle, the present study wasdesigned to characterize the effects of genistin on intestinalcontractility and evaluate its potential clinical implication. Ex vivo [isolated jejunal segment (IJS) of rat], in vitro, andin vivo assays were used in the study. The results indicatedthat genistin (5–80 lmol/L) inhibited the contraction of IJSin a dose-dependent manner and inhibited the increasedcontractilityof IJS induced by acetylcholine (ACh), histamine, high Ca2?, and erythromycin, respectively. Theinhibitory effects of genistin were correlated with thestimulation of alpha adrenergic and beta adrenergicreceptors since these inhibitory effects were significantlyblocked in the presence of phentolamine and propranololrespectively. No further inhibitory effects of genistin wereobserved in the presence of verapamil or in Ca2?-freecondition, indicating genistin-induced inhibitory effects areCa2?-dependent. Genistin decreased myosin light chainkinase (MLCK) protein contents and MLCK mRNAexpression in IJS, and inhibited both phosphorylation andMg2?-ATPase activity of purified myosin, implicating thatthe decrease of MLCK contents and inhibition of MLCKactivity are involved in the genistin-induced inhibitoryeffects. The study suggests the potential clinical implicationsof genistin in relieving intestinal hypercontractility.

The Incidence, Changes and Treatments of Cervical Deformity After Infection and Inflammation

        Bo Han,Jianqiang Wang,Yong Hai,Duan Sun,Weishi Liang,Peng Yin,Hongtao Ding 대한척추신경외과학회 2023 Neurospine Vol.20 No.1

A healthy cervical spine with normal movement is the basis of many daily activities and is essential for maintaining a good quality of life. However, the alignment, fusion, and structure of the cervical spine can change for various reasons, leading to cervical deformity, mainly kyphosis. Approximately 5%‒20% of spinal infections in the cervical spine cause cervical deformity. The deformity can recover early; however, the disease's long-term existence or the continuous action of abnormal stress may lead to intervertebral fusion and abnormal osteophytes. Many gaps and controversies exist regarding infectious cervical deformities, including a lack of clear definitions and an acceptable classification system thereby requiring further research. Moreover, there is no consensus on the indications for postinfectious cervical deformity associated with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Brucellosis. Therefore, we reviewed and discussed the incidence, clinical manifestations, changes, and treatment of infectious and inflammatory secondary cervical deformities from common to rare to provide a theoretical basis for clinical decision-making.

Effect of temperature on survival and immature development of Arma chinensis

        Xia Peng-Liang,Wang Bo,Xie Xiao-Fei,Feng Yi,Huang Yong 한국응용곤충학회 2022 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.25 No.3

Arma chinensis (Fallou) is a predaceous pentatomid with the potential to control a wide range of insect pests. In this study, the stage-specific temperature-dependent development and survival of A. chinensis was investigated under seven constant temperatures (range 18–35 ◦ C) when fed with yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor L.). Developmental times (in days) for the immature stage, entire nymphal stage, and egg-to-adult development were inversely proportional to temperatures between 18 and 33 ◦ C (30 ◦ C for eggs and 1st instar nymphs). The lowest survival rate of A. chinensis was observed at 18 ◦ C (6.7%), whereas it was the highest (80–93.3%) at temperatures ranging from 21 to 24 ◦ C. The low temperature thresholds for the egg, entire nymph stage, and egg-to-adult development were 14.3, 12.28, and 12.8 ◦ C, respectively, while the thermal constants for these stages were estimated to be 85.47, 334.9, and 423.8 ◦ days. Among the three non-linear models examined, the Taylor model showed the best fit for the egg data, the Briére1 model was the best fit for the 1st instar nymph stage, and the Lactin1 model was more approprate for all the other instar stages, the entire nymphal stage, and overall development. The upper temperature thresholds estimated using the Lactin1 model for eggs, overall nymphal stage, and egg-to-adult development were 38.57, 38.9, and 40.0 ◦ C. The optimal temperature for the overall eggto-adult period was estimated to be 33.5 ◦ C. The results of this study can be used for the mass rearing of this natural pest enemy and development of phenology models of its seasonal progress.

Hysteretic Behavior and Restoring Force Model of Specimens of Square Concrete-Filled CFRP-Steel Tubular Beam-Column

        Kuan Peng,Yong-Bo Shao,Qing-li Wang,Yi-Fang Cao 한국강구조학회 2022 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.22 No.2

To study the hysteretic behavior of specimens of square concrete-fi lled CFRP-steel tube under diff erent infl uencing factors, a total of 12 specimens are designed, and the failure modes and P - Δ curves are investigated from experimental test. The simulation software ABAQUS is used to build the numerical model to study P - Δ curves and deformation mode of specimens. Based upon the tri-linear model, the restoring force model of square concrete-fi lled CFRP-steel tube is proposed, and the results of the tri-linear model are compared with those of the fi nite element model. The test results reveal that P - Δ curves of specimens are plump, and all specimens demonstrate excellent hysteretic behavior. The P - Δ curves, the skeleton curves and the deformation mode of specimens are reproduced by fi nite element model. The accuracy of the simulation results is verifi ed by comparing numerical results with experimental results. In terms of the restoring force model, a satisfactory agreement is achieved by comparing predicted results of tri-linear model with fi nite element simulations.

Nonlinear stochastic optimal control strategy of hysteretic structures

        Li, Jie,Peng, Yong-Bo,Chen, Jian-Bing Techno-Press 2011 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.38 No.1

Referring to the formulation of physical stochastic optimal control of structures and the scheme of optimal polynomial control, a nonlinear stochastic optimal control strategy is developed for a class of structural systems with hysteretic behaviors in the present paper. This control strategy provides an amenable approach to the classical stochastic optimal control strategies, bypasses the dilemma involved in It$\hat{o}$-type stochastic differential equations and is applicable to the dynamical systems driven by practical non-stationary and non-white random excitations, such as earthquake ground motions, strong winds and sea waves. The newly developed generalized optimal control policy is integrated in the nonlinear stochastic optimal control scheme so as to logically distribute the controllers and design their parameters associated with control gains. For illustrative purposes, the stochastic optimal controls of two base-excited multi-degree-of-freedom structural systems with hysteretic behavior in Clough bilinear model and Bouc-Wen differential model, respectively, are investigated. Numerical results reveal that a linear control with the 1st-order controller suffices even for the hysteretic structural systems when a control criterion in exceedance probability performance function for designing the weighting matrices is employed. This is practically meaningful due to the nonlinear controllers which may be associated with dynamical instabilities being saved. It is also noted that using the generalized optimal control policy, the maximum control effectiveness with the few number of control devices can be achieved, allowing for a desirable structural performance. It is remarked, meanwhile, that the response process and energy-dissipation behavior of the hysteretic structures are controlled to a certain extent.
