        Algorithm for Detection of Fire Smoke in a Video Based on Wavelet Energy Slope Fitting

        The existing methods for detection of fire smoke in a video easily lead to misjudgment of cloud, fog and movingdistractors, such as a moving person, a moving vehicle and other non-smoke moving objects. Therefore, analgorithm for detection of fire smoke in a video based on wavelet energy slope fitting is proposed in this paper. The change in wavelet energy of the moving target foreground is used as the basis, and a time window of 40continuous frames is set to fit the wavelet energy slope of the suspected area in every 20 frames, thusestablishing a wavelet-energy-based smoke judgment criterion. The experimental data show that the algorithmdescribed in this paper not only can detect smoke more quickly and more accurately, but also can effectivelyavoid the distraction of cloud, fog and moving object and prevent false alarm.

        Solution and analysis of VL combined seal lubrication model under the effect of wear

        Through the finite element calculation of VL combined seal models under different wear conditions, contact pressure distributions of models are obtained. Considering the coupling effect between seal deformation and lubricating oil film, a mathematical model of elastohydrodynamic lubrication for VL combined seal is established. Based on the theory of small deformation, the elastic deformation of VL composite seal under high pressure is obtained by the deformation influence coefficient matrix method. Considering the influence of sealing surface wear and surface roughness, the oil film thickness distribution and oil film pressure distribution of VL combined seal are solved by the finite difference method. The analysis results show the wear of VL combined seal, the decrease of viscosity, the increase of roughness and rotational speed can raise the thickness and pressure of lubricating oil film. The correctness of numerical simulation is verified by experimentally measuring the friction torque and leakage rate of seal.

        A 2 GS/s, 6-bit DAC for UWB Applications In 0.18 ㎛ CMOS Technology

        To satisfy higher and higher transmission rate and broadband requirement of modern communication, high-speed, low-resolution Digital-to-Analog Converters (DACs) becomes the key element. In this paper, the design of a 2 GS/s, 6 bit DAC without calibration for Ultra-wideband (UWB) applications, is presented. The DAC is based on current steering architecture and is segmented with 4 bit unary and 2 bit binary. To realize larger linear range and fast switching, the source degeneration switch is designed instead of the traditional differential switch. The DAC is designed and taped-out in SMIC 0.18 ㎜ CMOS technology and the area is 975 ㎛´ 775 ㎛. The wafer bonding measurement results shows that the DNL is 0.11 LSB, INL is 0.25 LSB. Under a clock frequency of 2 ㎓, the DAC can achieve a SFDR of 51 ㏈ for input signal of 6㎒, and a SFDR of 32.4 ㏈ for Nyquist input while the power consumption is 79 ㎽.

        A 32.2 GHz Full Adder Designed with TLE Method in a InP DHBT Technology

        Ultra-high-speed full adder is the bottleneck in a tens of GHz Direct digital synthesizer (DDS). In this paper, a 32.2 GHz, 1bit full adder in a 0.7 μm InP double hetero-junction bipolar transistor (DHBT) technology is presented. In such a high-speed circuit, signal integrity is a crucial issue. Therefore, a transmission line equivalent (TLE) method is proposed. With the TLE method, the design of the full adder could be simplified with good accuracy. The synchronous latch is combined with adding operation to improve the calculation speed. A single-level parallel-gated circuit is designed using majority decision algorithm to reduce power consumption. Measurement results show that the maximum clock frequency of the full adder is 32.2-GHz, and the overall power consumption is 350 mW. The full adder is successfully adopted in a 17 GHz, 8 bit DDS which can synthesize sin-wave outputs from 66.41 MHz to 8.5 GHz in 66.41 MHz steps with an average Spurious-Free Dynamic Range (SFDR) of -18.1 dBc.

        Surgical Anatomy of Temporalis Muscle Transfer with Fascia Lata Augmentation for the Reanimation of the Paralyzed Face: A Cadaveric Study

        Background The temporalis muscle flap transfer with fascia lata augmentation (FLA) is a promising method for smile reconstruction after facial palsy. International literature lacks a detailed anatomical analysis of the temporalis muscle (TPM) combined with fascia lata (FL) augmentation. This study aims to describe the muscle’s properties and calculate the length of FL needed to perform the temporalis muscle flap transfer with FLA. Methods Twenty nonembalmed male (m) and female (f) hemifacial cadavers were dissected to investigate the temporalis muscle’s anatomy. Results The calculated minimum length of FL needed is 7.03cm (f) and 5.99cm (m). The length of the harvested tendon is 3.16cm/1.32cm (f) and 3.18/0.73cm (m). The length of the anterior part of the temporalis muscle (aTPM) is 4.16/0.80cm (f) and 5.30/0.85cm (m). The length of the posterior part (pTPM) is 5.24/1.51cm (f) and 6.62/1.03cm (m). The length from themost anterior to themost posterior point (aTPMpTPM) is 8.60/0.98cm (f) and 10.18/0.79cm (m). The length from the most cranial point to the distal tendon (cTPMdT) is 7.90/0.43cm (f) and 9.79/1.11cm (m). Conclusions This study gives basic information about the temporalis muscle and its anatomy to support existing and future surgical procedures in their performance. The recommendedminimum length of FL to performa temporalis muscle transfer with FLA is 7.03cm for female and 5.99cm for male, and minimum width of 3 cm. We recommend harvesting some extra centimeters to allow adjusting afterward.

      • An ensemble learning based Bayesian model updating approach for structural damage identification

        This study presents an ensemble learning based Bayesian model updating approach for structural damage diagnosis. In the developed framework, the structure is initially decomposed into a set of substructures. The autoregressive moving average (ARMAX) model is established first for structural damage localization based structural motion equation. The wavelet packet decomposition is utilized to extract the damage-sensitive node energy in different frequency bands for constructing structural surrogate models. Four methods, including Kriging predictor (KRG), radial basis function neural network (RBFNN), support vector regression (SVR), and multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS), are selected as candidate structural surrogate models. These models are then resampled by bootstrapping and combined to obtain an ensemble model by probabilistic ensemble. Meanwhile, the maximum entropy principal is adopted to search for new design points for sample space updating, yielding a more robust ensemble model. Through the iterations, a framework of surrogate ensemble learning based model updating with high model construction efficiency and accuracy is proposed. The specificities of the method are discussed and investigated in a case study.

        Purple Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) Color Alleviates High-fat-diet-induced Obesity in SD Rat by Mediating Leptin’s Effect and Attenuating Oxidative Stress

        Obesity and associated diseases are world-wide problems. The preventive effect of purple sweet potato color (PSPC) on high fat diet (HFD) induced obesity was investigated along with the mechanism underlying the effect. Eight-week-old male Sprague Dawley strain rats were grouped into 7 groups and intragastrically administered PSPC once a day. Obesity was prevented and abnormal glucose, triglyceride, and total cholesterol levels induced by the HFD for 6 weeks were restored to near-normal levels. PSPC significantly (p<0.05) reduced the level of reactive oxygen species and inhibited the receptor of advanced glycation end products and thioredoxin interacting protein in the hypothalamus, compared with controls. PSPC preserved the leptin signaling capability, leading to a decrease in hypothalamic adenosine 5'-monophosphate activated protein kinase activity. The anti-obesity effects of PSPC were mediated via attenuation of oxidative stress and regulation of leptin/AMPK signaling in the hypothalamus.

        Microwave-assisted Extraction and Anti-oxidation Activity of Polyphenols from Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.) Seeds

        Lotus seeds polyphenols have not been studied at the anti-oxidation activity in oil and the extraction by now. Microwave-assisted extraction was employed to extract polyphenols from lotus seeds, which is a process that uses microwave energy and solvents to extract target compounds from various matrices. Orthogonal analysis methodology was used to determine the optimal extraction conditions for microwave power, ethanol concentration, extraction time,and solid-liquid ratio which were 300 W, 90%, 35 s, and 1:10, respectively. Ethanol concentration is the most significant factor influencing on the yield of lotus seed polyphenols. Antioxidant trials using oil have shown lotus seed polyphenols can effectively inhibit the production of the peroxide and anisidine in oil to a certain extent, and these polyphenols have strong anti-oxidation activity. From anti-oxidation synergistic effect on oils with the lotus seed polyphenols and other antioxidants, vitamin C shows the strongest synergy.

        Modeling and coordinative optimization of NOx emission and efficiency of utility boilers with neural network

        empirical model to predict the boiler efficiency and pollutant emissions was developed with artificialneural networks based on the experimental data on a 360 MW W-flame coal fired boiler. The temperature of the furnacewas selected as an intermediate variable in the hybrid model so that the predictive precision of NOx emissions was en-hanced. The predictive precision of the hybrid model was operational objects were proposed in order to minimize the fuel and environmental costs. Based on the neural networkmodel and optimal objects, a genetic algorithm was employed to seek real-time solution every 30 seconds. Optimummanipulated variables such as excess air, primary air and secondary air were obtained under different optimal objects.The above algorithm interconnected with a distributed control system (DCS) formed the supervisory control and achievedreal-time coordinated optimization control of utility boilers.
