Dynamical Control for the Parametric Uncertain Cancer Systems
Yi-Horng Lai,Lan-Yuen Guo,Kun-Ching Wang,Jau-Woei Perng 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2020 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.18 No.9
In this study, we consider a parametric uncertain Lotka–Volterra cancer model including three interacting cell populations of tumor cells, healthy host cells and immune effector cells. The biological parameter (i.e., cell growth rate) is described as a form of the triangular fuzzy number. By using grade mean value conversion, the imprecise fuzzy parameter is translated into the degree of optimism (λ-integral value λ ∈ [0,1]) interval. We derive the sufficient conditions for the existence of the region of asymptotic stability (RAS) in the fuzzy cancer model. The boundary crisis of transient chaos and properties of RAS are investigated under fuzzy environment. We present a dynamical perturbation control to avoid uncontrolled tumor cell growth and prevent healthy cell extinction.

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) can recognize conserved molecular patterns and initiate a wide range of innate and adaptive immune responses against invading infectious agents. The aim of this study was to assess the transcript profile of mink TLRs (mTLRs) in mink peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and a range of tissues, and to explore the potential role of mTLRs in the antiviral immune response process. The results indicated that the mTLR partial nucleotide sequences had a high degree of nucleotide identity with ferret sequences (95-98%). Phylogenetic analysis showed that mammalian TLRs grouped into five TLR families, with a closer relationship of the mTLRs with those of ferret than the other mammalian sequences. Moreover, all the mTLRs were ubiquitously expressed in lymphoid organs (spleen and lymph nodes) and PBMCs. Interestingly, the mTLR expression patterns in lung, uterus, and heart showed quite a lot of similarity. Another remarkable observation was the wide expression of mTLR1-3 mRNAs in all tissues. Among the analyzed tissues, skeletal muscle was revealed to being the lowest repertoire of mTLR expression. Additionally, mink PBMCs exposed to the canine distemper virus revealed significant upregulation of mTLR2, mTLR4, mTLR7, and mTLR8 mRNAs, indicating that mTLRs have a role in innate immunity in the mink. Collectively, our results are the first to establish the basic expression patterns of mTLRs and the relationship between mTLRs and a virus, which will contribute to better understanding of the evolution and the functions of mTLRs in the innate immune system in minks.

Objective: To determine the effect of anterior plating on postoperative dysphagia (POD) among adult patients undergoing elective anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) for cervical spondylosis and determine the potential role of demographic and clinical characteristics in the development of POD. Methods: Consecutive adults undergoing an elective, single-level, ACDF were randomly assigned to receive a stand-alone CoRoent Cage or a CoRoent Cage with a Helix, or HelixMini plate. Patients with a history of cervical spine surgery were excluded. M. D. Anderson Dysphagia Inventory and Bazaz questionnaires were completed at regular intervals for 12 months postoperatively. Results: Twenty-five patients were recruited over a 2-year period, with 8 allocated to receive a stand-alone cage, 5 to receive a cage and Helix Mini plate, and 12 to receive a cage and Helix plate. The POD rate was 68% at 48 hours, before falling to 16% at 6 and 12 months. A longer retraction time was observed in the Helix plate group compared to the stand-alone cage group (7.88; 95% confidence interval, 0.12–15.63; p=0.046), although there was no difference in the incidence or severity of dysphagia between cohorts at any timepoint. With the exception of body mass index, there was no difference in patients with and without dysphagia, and each of the interventions was equally efficacious with respect to clinical and radiological endpoints. Conclusion: Dysphagia is a common consequence of ACDF and, while the placement of a large plate results in longer retraction time, it was not associated with higher rates of dysphagia. Further research is required to identify both patient-specific and surgical contributors to this complication.
Surgical Resection of Aggressive Angiomyxoma Manifesting as a Spinal Tumour: A Case Report
Lana V. Nguyen,Ruth A. Mitchell,Alastair Veitch,Yi Yuen Wang 대한척추외과학회 2022 대한척추외과학회지 Vol.29 No.2
Study Design: Retrospective case report Objectives: To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first reported case of aggressive angiomyxoma presenting as a sacral spine tumour in a 51-year-old woman. Summary of Literature Review: Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare myxoid neoplasm of the perineum and pelvis in women of reproductive age. Extragenital tumours are extremely rare and have previously been reported in the head and neck, abdomen, lung and limbs. Materials and Methods: The authors reviewed the literature and described the clinical presentation and key aspects of management of this rare manifestation of aggressive angiomyxoma. Results: This patient was managed with maximal safe resection and close surveillance. Conclusions: Aggressive angiomyxoma may manifest as a spinal tumour.
