In this study, in order to improve the thermal and electrical properties of epoxy/graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs), surface modifications of GNPs are conducted using silane coupling agents. Three silane coupling agents, i.e. 2-(3,4-epoxycyclohexyl)-ethyltrimethoxysilane (ETMOS), 3-glycidoxypropyltriethoxysilane (GPTS), and 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS), were used. Among theses, GPTMS exhibits the best modification performance for fabricating GNP-incorporated epoxy composites. The effect of the silanization is evaluated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The electrical and thermal conductivities are characterized. The epoxy/silanized GNPs exhibits higher thermal and electrical properties than the epoxy/raw GNPs due to the improved dispersion state of the GNPs in the epoxy matrix. The TEM microphotographs and Turbiscan data demonstrate that the silane molecules grafted onto the GNP surface improve the GNP dispersion in the epoxy.

Though several wood decay fungi have been reported in the world-wide, only about 600 wood decay fungi have been reported in Korea to date. Thus, the objective of this study was to secure resources for the wood decay fungi in Korea. We investigated wood decay fungi in Yeoninsan Provincial Park, Korea, and the collected specimens were identified based on ITS sequence analysis. Two species were unrecorded species in Korea: Postia hirsuta (Polyporales, Basidiomycota) and Hyphodontia reticulata (Hymenochaetales, Basidiomycota). Another species was previously reported without detailed description: Ceriporia alachuana (Polyporales, Basidiomycota). Here, we provided additional detailed microscopic features and phylogenetic analysis of these species.

Polyporoid and corticioid fungi are among the most important wood-decay fungi. Not only do they contribute to nutrient cycling by decomposing wood debris, but they are also valuable sources for natural products. Polyporoid and corticioid wood-inhabiting fungi were investigated in Odaesan National Park. Fruit bodies were collected and identified based on morphological and molecular analyses using 28S and internal transcribed spacer regions of DNA sequences. As a result, a total of 149 species, 69 genera, 22 families, and 11 orders were recognized. Half (74 species) of the species were polypores, and the other half (75 species) were corticioid fungi. Most of the species belonged to Polyporales (92 species) followed by Hymenochaetales (33 species) and Russulales (11 species). At the genus level, a high number of species was observed from Steccherinum, Hyphodontia, Phanerochaete, Postia, and Trametes. Concerning distribution, almost all the species could be found below 1,000 m, and only 20% of the species were observed from above 1,000 m. Stereum subtomentosum, Trametes versicolor, T. hirsuta, T. pubescens, Bjerkandera adusta, and Ganoderma applanatum had wide distribution areas. Deciduous wood was the preferred substrate for the collected species. Sixty-three species were new to this region, and 21 species were new to Korea, of which 17 species were described and illustrated.
Vertical Transmission of RNA Mycoviruses in Lentinula edodes
Kim Eunjin,Park Mi-Jeong,Min-Jun Kim,Yeun Sug Jeong,Jang Yeongseon,Ka Kang-Hyeon 한국균학회 2022 韓國菌學會誌 Vol.50 No.4
Lentinula edodes is an important commercial mushroom and there have been several reports of viral infections in L. edodes. Two mycoviruses (LeV-HKB and LeNSRV1) were detected in Sanbaekhyang (NIFoS 2778) and Taehyanggo (NIFoS 4317), the sawdust- cultivated commercial strains. The vertical transmission rates of the viruses were investigated by detecting the viruses in 80 monokaryotic strains derived from basidiospores isolated from the fruiting bodies of each strain. Most of the monokaryotic strains were infected with the virus and the two viruses showed different levels of meiotic stability, with LeV-HKB showing higher meiotic stability than LeNSRV1. Therefore, it seems that the vertical transmission mechanism of mycoviruses is different depending on the virus species. We also examined the mycelial growth rate of the monokaryotic strains and compared the growth rate according to virus infection status. Although there was no statistically significant correlation between viral infection and mycelial growth rate, we found that the average growth rate was reduced by additional virus infection. We expect our data to contribute to a greater understanding of the mechanism of the vertical transmission of mycoviruses, and promoting breeding using virus-free monokaryotic strains.

Fresh Korean ginseng needs more credibility in the Vietnam market since fresh ginseng imported from China is increasing, and the Vietnam government promotes its national Ngoc Linh ginseng brand. Therefore, this study determines factors of three shopping places (the department store, supermarket, and ginseng specialty store), the certification label of good agriculture products (Viet GAP), Korean nationality, and three famous private brands of CheongKwanJang, HanSamIn, and Geumhong affecting Vietnamese consumers fresh ginseng choices based on 897 respondents from Hanoi and Hochiminh City in January 2018. Conditional and random parameter logits are used to find differences in the independent assumptions relaxation among irrelevant alternatives. Hausman test for IIA assumptions holds for the choice of the department store, ginseng specialty store, and None. Overall results show that shopping places, the Korean national flag, and the existence of VietGap positively affect Vietnam consumers choices. However, none of the Korean private brands could significantly affect Vietnamese choice for fresh ginseng products. The shopping place of ginseng specialty stores gets the highest WTP, followed by supermarkets and department stores. Korean national flag also shows a high WTP, which is higher than Vietgap, a certificate from Vietnam agricultural products. Female consumers tend to pay more WTP than males. Hochiminh consumers are willing to pay more than Hanoi consumers on average. Of course, the high-income consumers tend to pay more WTP than the low-income group. However, the low-income groups still demand fresh ginseng at a significant price. Understanding different price effects by consumer groups seem helpful for small and medium enterprises to market their ginseng products into Vietnam by further considering the origin of Korean nationality.
