대구시의 염색폐수처리장 폐수 및 처리장 주변의 토양과 물에서 반응성 염료인 Cibacron Brilliant Red 3B-A(CBR), Reactive Orange 16(RO), Reactive Black 5(RB)에 탈색능을 보이는 12종의 균을 분리하고 이들 균 중에서 본 실험에 사용한 CBR, RO, RB5 염료 모두에 약 90% 이상의 높은 탈색율을 나타낸 CBR2균을 선별하였다. 선별된 CBR2균의 특성 및 염료분해특성을 조사하였다. CBR2균은 그람 음성, 무아포, 간균으로 운동성이 있으며, 염농도 5%, 온도 50℃에서도 생육이 가능하였다. CBR2균의 생육 및 염료의 탈색에 미치는 pH의 영향을 조사한 결과, pH 5.0에서 9.0까지 고른 균 성장과 탈색율을 나타내었으며 특히 pH 7.0에서 최고의 균 성장 및 염료 탈색율을 나타내었다. 온도별 균의 생육 및 염료의 탈색율을 조사한 결과 30℃에서 가장 높은 균 성장 및 탈색율을 나타내었다. 산소량에 따른 균의 생육 및 염료의 탈색율을 조사한 결과, 산소량이 많을수록 균의 생육이 좋았으며, 염료의 탈색율에 있어서도 CBR 염료의 경우는 산소량에 비례해서 탈색율이 좋았으나, RO와 RB5 염료의 경우는 산소량이 가장 많은 2ml양의 배양에서 보다 상대적으로 산소량이 적은 4ml양의 배양에서 가장 높은 탈색율을 보였다. Twelve strains, which were exhibited abilities of decolorizationto the reactive dyes, Cibacron Brilliant Red 3B-A(CBR) , Reactive Orange 16(RO) and Reactive Black 5(RB5) , were isolated from the samples of waste waterof the dye textile factories and the samples of soil and water around them. Amongthem one stain, CBR2 was selected because of the higest decolorization rateto the reactive dyes, CBR, RO and RB5 with more than 90% of decolorizationrate. The characteristics of reactive dye-degrading microorganism CBR2 andits decolorization abilities to reactive dyes were investigated. This CBR2 wasGram negative and non-spore forming rod. This organism has motility and ispossible to grow even in 5% of sodium chloride solution and at such temperatueof 50℃ In the pH 5.0 to 9.0, growth rate of the isolate and decolorizationrate to reactive dyes by CBR2 were exhibited almost similar rates. However,among those pH of media the most growth and decolorization rates were appearedat pH 7.0. On the temperature effects to growth rates of CBR2 and decolorizationrate by this organism, the most growth and decolorization rates were at tempera-ture of 30℃. More oxygen volumes in test tubes enhanced generally the growthrate of this organism. However, the decolorization rate of CBR dye by CBR2was higher according to oxygen volume increased in the media but the decoloriza-tion rates of RO and RB5 dyes in 2m1 volume of culture media were rather decrea-sed than that of 4ml volume of culture media where oxygen volume is lowerthan that of 2ml volum of culture media.

「시설물의 안전 및 유지관리에 관한 특별법(‘이하 시설물안전법’)」이 전부개정(’17.1.17.)됨에 따라 기존 시설물안전법 대상시설물인 제1,2종외에 제3종 시설물이 대상시설물로 추가되었으며, 이러한 시설물을 평가하기 위해 「제3종시설물 안전등급 평가 매뉴얼(‘이하 매뉴얼’)」을 제정(‘18.04.)하여 소규모시설물에 대한 안전관리 체계의 기틀을 마련하였다. 매뉴얼 제정 이후 제도 운영과정에서 제기된 미비점을 보완하기 위해 1차 개정(’19.01.)을 실시하였으나, 제3종시설물 정기안전점검 실효성을 증대시킬 목적으로 ①옹벽시설물 체크리스트 및 항목별 평가방법 추가, ②정기안전점검 평가항목 보완, ③표준화된 보고서 서식 추가, ④평가기준 세분화 및 평가항목 점수, 종합 상태점수 범위 조정을 주요골자로 하는 2차 개정(‘20.06.)을 실시하였다.

Background: While neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) is known as an early marker of acute kidney injury, little is known about the roles in the management of acute lung diseases, such as pneumonia. In this study, we investigated the role of plasma NGAL in assessing severity and clinical outcomes of hospitalized patients with pneumonia. Method: With a prospective observation design, we enrolled adult patients, who were admitted to a university hospital for the treatment of pneumonia. At the time of admission, we measured plasma level of NGAL in addition to serum concentrations of CRP and procalcitonin. Primary outcomes were Pneumonia Severity Index (PSI) score at admission and mortality due to pneumonia after hospitalization. Results: We enrolled a total of 136 hospitalized patients with pneumonia. NGAL was significantly correlated with PSI score (P <0.001), with 290.6 ng/ml in lowest PSI quartile and 373.9 ng/ml in highest PSI quartile. Concentrations of NGAL was much higher in non-survivors (n = 24) than survivors (n = 112) of pneumonia (679.2 vs. 308.5 ng/ml, P = 0.003). Receiver operating curve analysis showed that plasma NGAL is useful for predicting mortality (AUC 0.74, 95%CI 0.64-0.84, P <0.001). In a multivariate logistic regression analysis adjusting for age, gender, smoking and serum creatinine, NGAL was found to be an independently associated with mortality (P = 0.001). Conclusions: These findings suggest that plasma NGAL is a useful biomarker for assessment of severity of pneumonia and predicting mortality in hospitalized patients with pneumonia.

Background: Healthcare workers (HCWs) are at high risk for tuberculosis (TB) infection. Thus, a diagnostic test for latent TB infection (LTBI) is mandated for HCW by Korean government since 2016. However, much is not known about acceptance rate of LTBI treatment among HCWs who were recently diagnosed with LTBI. Methods: We analyzed compliance with LTBI treatment among the HCWs at university hospital in a prospective observational study. HCWs were tested for LTBI using Interferon-Gamma Release Assay (IGRA, QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube). The IGRA test positive subjects were informed the results and recommended to visit respiratory specialist clinic for consultation and treatment of LTBI via short message services up to three times. For enrolled subjects, acceptance of LTBI were assessed prospectively. Results: Of 1213 HCWs, who were tested for LTBI, 332 subjects (27.4%) were found to be positive to IGRA test. Among 332 IGRA positive HCWs, 228 subjects (68.7%) visited specialist clinic within one month after noticing the results. Of 189 HCWs visiting specialty clinic and eligible for LTBI treatment, 128 subjects (67.7%) accepted LTBI treatment and 61 (32.3%) declined. Factors for non-visit or non-acceptance of LTBI treatment were being a doctor and old age (P <0.05). Conclusions: This prospective observational study found that non-visit or non-acceptance of treatment initiation is common among HCWs in Korea. More efforts are needed to enhance compliance with national strategy for LTBI management in HCWs.

Background: C-reactive protein (CRP) is synthesized by the liver in response to various stimuli, thus frequently used as a biomarker for systemic inflammation. While CRP has been reported to be associated with lower lung function, it is not clear whether there is a gender-specific association. In this study, we aimed to examine the association of serum level of CRP with lung function both in male and female adults by analyzing data from Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) in Korean adults. Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study of adults aged ≥40 from KNHANES 2015. Lung functions were determined using spirometry and serum level of high sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) was measured. A generalized linear model was used to evaluate the relationship between hs-CRP and lung function in consideration of weight for complex sample design. Results: In multivariate analysis, serum hs-CRP showed negative associations with both FVC and FEV1 respectively (P <0.05) after adjusting for age, gender, body mass index and smoking. In the highest CRP quartile, the average FVC% was 90.2% (95%CI 88.9-91.5), significantly lower than 94.5% (95%CI 93.2-95.9) in the lowest quartile (P <0.05). This negative association was more prominent in males, while there was no significant association in female gender in multivariate analysis. Conclusion: Serum hs-CRP is inversely related with lung function in terms of FVC and FEV1 in male adults, not in females. These findings suggest that the relationship between hs-CRP and lung function is gender specific.
Case Report : Intra-Renal Arterial Pseudoaneurysm Associated with Acute Pyelonephritis

Renal artery pseudoaneurysm is an uncommon disease. A 47-year-old man complained of recently developed gross hematuria and left flank pain. The initial laboratory study and radiographic evaluation revealed acute pyelonephritis. After the treatment with antibiotics, gross hematuria was resolved and the patient was discharged. However, he revisited with repeated gross hematuria and throbbing left flank pain. The renal angiography revealed left intra-renal arterial pseudoaneurysm. Angiographic embolization by glue injection was successfully performed. Thereafter, gross hematuria and flank pain were disappeared. We report a successful glue embolization of intra-renal artery pseudoaneurym associated with acute pyelonephritis.
