Procurement, cutting, cleansing, freezing, freeze-drying, and demineralization of the allogeneic bone must be made under the germ-free stable condition without bacterial and/or viral contamination. Even thought the bone is procured under the germ free condition, we must have confidence on disinfection of all the solutions that come in contact with tissue during the whole procedure. Lots of antibacterial agents have been introduced for chemical sterilization. Recently ethylene oxide gas sterilization or radiation sterilization is frequently selected as a secendary sterilization procedure. The biological and biochemical response of the graft material differs with the type and concentration of the sterilizing agents, and various toxic reactions have been reported due to the graft material itself and the substance released by the chemicals. The authors conducted the Millipore filter test to observe the toxic effect on L929 fibroblasts according to the effect on activity of succinate dehydrogenase, during the secondary sterilization of the demineralized allogeneic bone powder with irradiation or ethylene oxide gas. The result were as follows: 1. Around the copper disk, positive control group, 10mm diameter discoloration was observed. 2. As same as the negative control group, the disk showed no discoloration. 3. The demineralized allogeneic bone which was sterilized with ethylene oxide gas or irradiation showed no cytotoxicity. 4. From this results, it is suggested that treatment with ethylene oxide gas or irradiation should be effective to sterilize the deminineralized allogeneic bone.

Serial Ultrasonographic Evaluation of Postpartum Uterine Involution in Miniature Schnauzer Dogs

This study was undertaken to determine the normal appearance of the postpartum uterine involution. Postpartum changes in uterine shape, architecture, echogenicity and diameter were monitored with ultrasonography in 8 Miniature Schnauzer dogs. Vaginal discharge was observed visually during the 3 weeks of postpartum. A large amount of viscous dark green discharge changed progressively to a small amount of transparent discharge. In the uterine shape, the transverse images were crescent or polygonal at the beginning, but became circular after 16 days. At postpartum day 24, the longitudinal images of placental and interplacental sites were similar to each other The echogenicity of uterine structure was clearly distinguishable among the hyperechoic serous membrane, hypochoic myometrium, hyperechoic endometrium, and anechoic uterine contents during the first week postpartum, but afterward the interluminal boundaries and echogenicity became obscure gradually. In addition, the anechoic substance of the endometrial cavity was not observed after postpartum day 28. In the uterine diameter, the diameter of placental sites decreased markedly from 24 mm at the first day postpartum to 13 mm at day 7, and the diameter of interplacental sites decreased from 15 mm at postpartum day 1 to 10 mm at day 7. At postpartum day 65, the uterus (6.4 mm) changed little and had a uniform homogenous echo, and thus it was confirmed that uterine involution was completed at that time in Miniature Schnauzer dogs.
MDMG-HFP법과 퍼지역평가법을 이용한 상하이 및 북중국과 우리 나라 컨테이너항만의 경쟁력분석에 관한 연구

The competitive environment of Northeast Asia`s intra-shipping ports is expected to change greatly due to the remarkable economic growth of China in which rapidly appeared as a production base of the world. The inter-port competition to preoccupy the hub port within the area is also expected to be much more severe. In this aspect, the main purpose of this study lies in surveying and analysing the development and status of North China`s ports including Shanghai where direct calling is taking place, considering the spreading effects on Korea`s ports, and drawing up a plan for improving Korea`s port competitiveness. The research scope is to cover the subjective ports of Korea and China`s 7 major ports (Busan, Gwangyang, Sanghai, Qingdao, Tienjin, Dalian and Kaoshuing). The substance of this study contains the extraction of port competitiveness components through the previous existing studies and the pilot test and factor analysis which reflect the opinions of working-level personnel and researchers related to the subjective ports. The evaluation structure of port competitiveness is established by utilizing the results of factor analysis. Then, we extract the relevant port competitiveness using MDMG-HFP (Multi Decision Multi Group-Hierarchical Fuzzy Process) to execute the competitiveness evaluation of the subjective ports on the basis of the established evaluation structure. Finally, we draw the factors that increase the competitiveness of major ports by applying the IRFE(Inverse Relation of Fuzzy Evaluation), and present Korea`s strategic planning and implications through the scenario analysis of the extracted components.

After an artificial barrage was constructed in 1990s, the Geumgang estuary has been experiencing considerable changes in nature as well as in socioeconomic conditions and culture in villages in the vicinity. In order to understand how the change in estuarine environment brings about conflicts among the local communities and to resolve the conflicts, this research investigated the causes of conflicts in the Geumgang estuary using the in-depth and semi-structured interview method. One hundred local people who have lived in the vicinity of the Geumgang estuary for more than 30 years were selected for the interviews. Results of the research show that local people`s jobs determine the opinions about the estuary barrage and the way of estuarine management. Gaining an understanding of the environmental change and local conflicts can help to develop a sustainable and integrated estuary management system in the region.
