Only eight years ago, Central Asian1 region was characterized as being “largely ignored as a scholarly backwater of the defunct communist world system”.2Since then the situation has changed; and the role of the Central Asian region in international affairs has increased considerably. Several developments within the region ushered in new geopolitical approaches, echoing international rivalries for the dominance in the ex-Soviet republics. Kazakhstan's oil export and the Kyrgyz Manas military bases are among those international disagreements that echoed in the “Great Game” vision of Central Asia in the world literature. Could geopolitics be the key approach to frame complex developments in the region? Or is this the case when particular methodological “lenses”3 through which one could consider the world are counter-productive?

Abstract should stand alone, means that no citation in abstract. The abstract should concisely This study extends the theoretical framework developed by Roychowdhury and Watts (2007) by testing it on a sample of Kazakhstani companies and aims at investigating changes in relations between two measures of conservatism: asymmetric timeliness of earnings (AT) and the market-to-book ratio (MTB) over short and long periods. On the contrary to the recent studies that document negative relations between these two measures, we reveal that magnitudes of earnings response to good and bad news increase for cumulation over longer periods. Second, we observe positive relations between earnings response to good news and MTB at the beginning and end of the estimation period. Even though the authors of the framework have not found any support for positive relations on any combination of news and MTB, our results support their initial expectations about positive association between asymmetric timeliness and MTB. Interestingly, our findings document absence of conservatism for certain lengths of cumulation period which can be attributed to peculiarities of financial reporting system on Kazakhstani Stock Exchange.
Cultural Peculiarities of Linguistic Borrowings in the Modern Korean Language
Irina LARIONOVA,Yelena CHZHAN 한국글로벌문화학회 2016 글로벌문화연구 Vol.7 No.2
The article is devoted to the problem of history, ways and means of linguistic borrowings from Chinese, Japanese, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Kazakh in the modern Korean language. The authors touch upon categories and frequency of using English loan words in Korean. In the Korean language often appear language units composed of English and chinese and other components that have meaning absent in the original language. Many Koreans are not even aware that some of the words they use, have come from foreign languages and firmly entered into the everyday life becoming un-separable vocabulary of the Korean. However, in the development of any modern language we can periodically observe so called “purism” periods (from the Latin “purus” - pure), when all of a sudden everybody begins to fight against foreign language vocabulary, replacing it with native one. Thus, this subsystem of the Korean language substantially drifted away from the English language, and now is developing according to its own laws. So, what happens to the phonetic form of English borrowings when they get into the Korean language? This question applies only to English borrowings and other borrowings from European languages. The paper also suggests approaches to organizing experimental work on analyzing ways of transmitting English borrowings by means of transcription, transliteration, transplantation and tracing.
The Rat Model in Microsurgery Education: Classical Exercises and New Horizons
Sandra Shurey,Yelena Akelina,Josette Legagneux,Gerardo Malzone,Lucian Jiga,Ali Mahmoud Ghanem 대한성형외과학회 2014 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.41 No.3
Microsurgery is a precise surgical skill that requires an extensive training period and the supervision of expert instructors. The classical training schemes in microsurgery have started with multiday experimental courses on the rat model. These courses have offered a low threat supervised high fidelity laboratory setting in which students can steadily and rapidly progress. This simulated environment allows students to make and recognise mistakes in microsurgery techniques and thus shifts any related risks of the early training period from the operating room to the lab. To achieve a high level of skill acquisition before beginning clinical practice, students are trained on a comprehensive set of exercises the rat model can uniquely provide, with progressive complexity as competency improves. This paper presents the utility of the classical rat model in three of the earliest microsurgery training centres and the new prospects that this versatile and expansive training model offers.
