Induction of Oral Tolerance by Gamma-Irradiated Ovalbumin Administration

Oral administration of soluble antigen can induce peripheral tolerance to the antigen. This study was conducted to evaluate whether gamma-irradiated ovalbumin (OVA) can induce oral tolerance. To investigate this, we administrated intact or irradiated OVA to mice, induced allergic response using intact OVA and alum, then compared humoral and cellular immune responses. Mice treated with gamma-irradiated OVA had less OVA-specific IgE compared with those who were administered intact OVA. There was no difference in levels of OVA-specific IgG+A+M, IgG1, and IgG2a. Splenocytes of mice administered irradiated OVA showed similar OVA-specific T cell proliferation and secretion of IFN-γ and IL-4. However, there was an increase in IL-2 and a decrease of IL-6 secretion in mice treated with irradiated OVA. These results indicate that gamma-irradiated OVA have similar effects to intact OVA on antigen tolerance.

Efficacy of Permanent Iodine-125 Seed Implants and Gemcitabine Chemotherapy in Patients with Platinum-Resistant Recurrent Ovarian Carcinoma

Background: The aim of this study was to explore the efficacy and adverse reactions of CT-guided radioactive 125I-seed implantation treatment combined with chemotherapy for platinum-resistant recurrent ovarian carcinoma. Materials and Methods: From September 2010 to December 2012, 23 patients with platinum-resistant recurrent ovarian carcinoma were enrolled. All the patients refused, could not bear, or were not suitable for surgery. They all had no more than 3 lesions, which were detected and could also be measured by CT. All were clarified as single-lesion or multiple-lesion groups. A total of 41 lesions underwent implantation of from 8 to 106 125I seeds (median=43). Multi-plane implanting was adopted and 125I-seeds of (0.4-0.7)mCi were placed at intervals of (0.5-1.0) cm. After implantation treatment, all patients underwent 4 cycles of chemotherapy with gemcitabine $800mg/m^2$ (days 1, 8 and 15). Results: The outcome was evaluated with CT 3 weeks and every 3 months after implantation treatment. After 6 months, the volume of 32 out of 41 lesions (78.0%) was reduced at least 30%, within which 9 lesions completely disappeared(22.0%). Complete response was observed in 7 cases (30.4%), with a partial response in 4 cases (17.4%), 4 cases stable(17.4%)and 8 cases showing progression (34.8%). The total clinical remission rate was 47.8% (11/23). The clinical remission rate was 77.8% (7/9) in the single-lesion group and 28.6% (4/14) in the multiple-lesion group with a significant difference between the two(P=0.036). The common side effects observed were mild gastrointestinal reactions. Conclusions: 125I-seed implantation combined with chemotherapy applies an effective way in the treatment of platinum-resistant recurrent ovarian epithelial carcinoma with the advantages of high local control rates, good short-term effects, little trauma and less side effects.

Adaptation of English stops into Mandarin Chinese

This study investigates the adaptation of English stops into Mandarin Chinese. English stops have a binary [±voice] contrast, whereas Mandarin Chinese stops are distinguished by aspiration. A corpus study based on 720 English loanwords shows that English voiced stops are mapped to the unaspirated stops in Mandarin Chinese while English voiceless stops are mapped to the aspirated stops in Mandarin Chinese, regardless of whether the English stops are aspirated or unaspirated. This finding is in favor of the phonological view on loanword adaptation in that phonemic contrast in the source language is maintained through one-to-one mapping between the source sounds and the loan sounds. However, the English bilabial aspirated stop [ph] is mapped to either the aspirated or unaspirated bilabial stop in Mandarin Chinese. Further, the English velar stop before a high front vowel is mapped to the Mandarin Chinese affricate. Such mappings differ from the general pattern and can be explained by perceptual similarity based on VOT between the source sounds and the loan sounds. We draw a conclusion that both faithful phonological contrast and perceptual similarity work together for the adaptation of English stops into Mandarin Chinese. Involvement of Orai1 in tunicamycin-induced endothelial dysfunction

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is mediated by disturbance of $Ca^{2+}$ homeostasis. The store-operated calcium (SOC) channel is the primary $Ca^{2+}$ channel in non-excitable cells, but its participation in agent-induced ER stress is not clear. In this study, the effects of tunicamycin on $Ca^{2+}$ influx in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were observed with the fluorescent probe Fluo-4 AM. The effect of tunicamycin on the expression of the unfolded protein response (UPR)-related proteins BiP and CHOP was assayed by western blotting with or without inhibition of Orai1. Tunicamycin induced endothelial dysfunction by activating ER stress. Orai1 expression and the influx of extracellular $Ca^{2+}$ in HUVECs were both upregulated during ER stress. The SOC channel inhibitor SKF96365 reversed tunicamycin-induced endothelial cell dysfunction by inhibiting ER stress. Regulation of tunicamycin-induced ER stress by Orai1 indicates that modification of Orai1 activity may have therapeutic value for conditions with ER stress-induced endothelial dysfunction.

Local estimation for longitudinal semiparametric varying-coefficient partially linear model

In this paper, estimation for the semiparametric varying coefficient partially linear model with longitudinal data is investigated. We propose an intuitive procedure to estimate the regression function and the covariance structure simultaneously based on the modified Cholesky decomposition and profile least square technique. The asymptotic normality of the resulting estimators is further derived. Moreover, we develop a variable selection procedure to select significant parameter components for the model within the framework of profile least square estimate. A simulation study is conducted to illustrate the finitesample performance of the estimation and variable selection procedures. Finally, the proposed method is applied to analyze a set of chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression data in a study of the relationship between glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and the risk factors among CKD patients.

그리드 기반 키 선분배 방식을 사용하는 공장 설비 모니터링 시스템 설계 및 구현

본 논문에서는 아두이노 기반의 공장 설비 모니터링 시스템을 제안한다. 제안하는 시스템은 아두이노 플랫폼을 기반으로 하며 온도, 습도 그리고 조도를 측정하는 환경 센서와 압력 센서를 이용하여 공장의 환경 및 설비의 상태를 모니터링 한다. 모니터링 데이터는 RF(Radio Frequency) 트랜시버를 통해 서버에 연결되어 있는 지그비 코디네이터로 전송된다. 호스트 서버에 저장된 환경 센서와 압력센서의 데이터를 이용하여 공장의 환경과 설비의 압력 상태를 확인하고 설정된 알람 상태에 도달하면 관리자에게 보고하도록 설계하였다. 그리드 기반 키 선분배 방식을 사용하여 센서 노드를 인증하고 데이터 키를 동적으로 생성하여 모니터링 정보를 보호한다. 추가적인 배선 작업이 필요 없는 지그비 무선 센서 네트워크를 적용하여 공장 설비 모니터링 시스템을 실제 구현함으로서 효율적인 공장의 작업 환경 모니터링이 가능하다. 또한 불량이 발생한 경우, 작업환경을 역으로 추적하여 불량 원인 분석에 활용할 수 있다. 아두이노 플랫폼과 확장 보드를 이용하여 평탄도나 진동 같은 센서를 추가하거나 확장 보드에 연결된 포트로 제어 하는 등의 기능 확장이 용이하다. In this paper, we propose an Arduino-based plant monitoring system. The proposed system is based on the Arduino platform, using an environmental sensor and a pressure sensor for measuring temperature, humidity and illuminance in order to monitor the state of the environment and the facilities of the plant. Monitoring data are transmitted to a ZigBee coordinator connected to a server through a radio frequency transceiver. When using a pressure sensor and the environment sensor data stored on the host server, checking the pressure in the environment of the plant and equipment is intended to report any alarm status to the administrator. Using a grid line-based key distribution scheme, the authentication node dynamically generates a data key to protect the monitoring information. Applying a ZigBee wireless sensor network does not require additional wiring for the actual implementation of a plant monitoring system. Possible working-environment monitoring of an efficient plant can help analyze the cause of any failure by backtracking the working environment when a failure occurs. In addition, it is easy to expand or add a sensor function using the Arduino platform and an expansion board.

Circ_UBE2D2 Attenuates the Progression of Septic Acute Kidney Injury in Rats by Targeting miR-370-3p/NR4A3 Axis

As circ_UBE2D2 has been confirmed to have targeted binding sites with multiple miRNAs involved in septic acute kidney injury (SAKI), efforts in this study are directed to unveiling the specific role and relevant mechanism of circ_UBE2D2 in SAKI. HK-2 cells were treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to construct SAKI model in vitro. After sh-circ_UBE2D2 was transfected into cells, the transfection efficiency was detected by qRT-PCR, cell viability and apoptosis were determined by MTT assay and flow cytometry, and expressions of Bcl-2, Bax and Cleaved-caspase 3 were quantified by western blot. Target genes associated with circ_UBE2D2 were predicted using bioinformatics analysis. After the establishment of SAKI rat model, HE staining and TUNEL staining were exploited to observe the effect of circ_UBE2D2 on tissue damage and cell apoptosis. The expression of circ_UBE2D2 was overtly elevated in LPS-induced HK-2 cells. Sh-circ_UBE2D2 can offset the inhibition of cell viability and the promotion of cell apoptosis induced by LPS. Circ_UBE2D2 and miR-370-3p as well as miR-370-3p and NR4A3 have targeted binding sites. MiR-370-3p inhibitor reversed the promoting effect of circ_UB2D2 silencing on viability of LPS-treated cells, but shNR4A3 neutralized the above inhibitory effect of miR-370-3p inhibitor. MiR-370-3p inhibitor weakened the down-regulation of NR4A3, Bax and Cleaved caspase-3 and the up-regulation of Bcl-2 induced by circ_UB2D2 silencing, but these trends were reversed by shNR4A3. In addition, sh-circ_UBE2D2 could alleviate the damage of rat kidney tissue. Circ_UBE2D2 mitigates the progression of SAKI in rats by targeting miR-370-3p/NR4A3 axis.

This study suggests direction of new ordinance establishment for the future national application of Low Impact Development(LID) by analyzing current LID-related regulations of local governments, substantial agents to install and maintain a facility, through qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Four key words related to LID were derived from advisory conference and then ninety nine ordinances as the LID-related regulations were extracted to analyze. The study shows that rainwater-related ordinance passed in the middle of 2000s are being merely converted to the law on the promotion and support of water reuse. Regulations on water cycle and LID exist only in three cities nationwide(Seoul City, Suwon City and Namangju City). Interview with administrators of three cities to have LID-related regulations revealed following results. First, both rainwater and water reuse related regulations have not considered regional characteristics such as rainfall intensity, effects of impervious and merely followed guidelines by Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs. Second, existing ordinance is confined to specific facilities and thus cannot include the concept of LID which covers land and space utilization. Therefore, for proper application of LID, this study proposes issue of ordinance that resembles Seoul City ordinance and a new guideline that can reflect regional characteristics such as rainfall and location.
